Level 80 American Gothic
There can only be a finite number of “epic” events. New story content takes time to develop, especially on the scale you seem to be looking for.
I understand what you mean. But how do you say “We don’t want you to grind.” And put something like 60 tokens per dungeon-run; while one armor piece costs around 300. 1 Laurel a day, when some items cost over 30. That’s a month of doing the same checklist over and over. I just think at level 80, we should be doing more heroic things like what we did during the leveling process. Something like level 80 specific hearts, or maybe an endgame faction. I dunno.
Because they’re all OPTIONAL. They never said that there wouldn’t be any grind but rather that it wouldn’t be required. If you want those items then the system for them is a grind or not based on your personal perspective. Nothing more.
To that…I’m off to grind me some karma.
We’ve already got one of these threads: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/In-my-opinion-this-game-requires-too-much-grind/first
Just a heads up, a Mod might merge you with it.
The problem is, to generate revenue, the game needs players playing it. Having epic content with no grind will only last as long. That’s why ‘grind’ is used.
I mean, you say put Hearts in, but what happens after the Hearts are done? And the faction you suggested? If you don’t want ‘grind’, then you’re going to max it out quite quickly. Anything more than a month and people accuse it of being a ‘grind’.
TL;DR – Content takes time to get produced, that’s why ‘grind’ is used.
As for dungeons: That’s 180 tokes a day for all 3 paths (that’s not including the tokens you get in bags, which tends to bring it up to about 70 tokens a run). An entire set of armour costs 1380. So if:
- you do all 3 paths a day, it takes about 7 days
- If you do one run a day, it takes about 23 days
I’d say that’s pretty reasonable, to be fair.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
Thanks for the heads up, TheDaiBish. And yes, I kind of agree with you about the 1 week gear grind. And I get that legendaries and a few other things are optional. I’ve heard all that before in other topics. But my main goal with this thread was to generate a conversation with people who feel the same way I do. I wanted to talk about how lifeless the world is at level 80 and how we could throw around ideas to make it less so for the developers to read and maybe implement later.
So far this is turning into every other thread about grinding. That’s not the direction I wanted this thread to go in.

On top of that, if you have another level 80 and enough time on your hands. (Like me right now, end of a college period) You can wait 2 hours after running all three paths of a dungeon then run the same dungeon on your other character for full rewards. Cuts the grind severely.
