I’m a level 80 Guardian who has recently %100’d the map. This is the only character I have, the only character I want to attend to at the moment. Typically, before I had %100’d the map, I used completing areas a method of money. I never waypointed in the area unless dead and the reward I was given for the completion was usually a nice profit. This is where most of my money came from.

However, recently, while I’m in dire need for gold for a personal reason, I can’t seem to find an efficient way to continue making an income for me on this one character. I’ve added magic find into my gear and have a nice amount of Peach Tarts (gives %28 MF) to consume on my farming runs. I find myself searching high and low for Orichalcum nodes, ancient saplings, and omnomberries for what silver they provide on the trading post. My magic find goes toward gathering rares that I salvage for Globs of Ectoplasm to earn a bit extra silver than I would to sell the rare item.

What other things can I do to bring in money? I’m sitting on a bunch of Karma too, if it helps any.

tl;dr how do you make money?

Equip a staff and tag as many mobs in events on Cursed Shore, or go Greatsword and farm trolls/skelks for bloods.

He asked how I make money, and I responded.
If you know of a better way for me to make money at my level, since I really have no clue, how about pop a suggestion instead of a comment like so. Don’t be rude.

This Greatsword idea.
Is this still within the cursed shore area?

Naturally not, it’s one of the most famous farming spots in Frostgorge Sound.

Guardian here as well. I’d suggest you go with GS “2” – whirlwind @ cursed shore while moving yourself towards the mob’s direction since the Risen seem to be a bunch of Olympics gold medal level runners they run pretty fast. For me better option to go AoE with attacks is Torch “5” which does a decent burning damage and you get to tag from a range.

Staff is better for event farming since it’s spammable and only requires 2 hits to tag the mob for drops and exp.

My response was less than a minute before you. So sorry I didn’t see it.
Completing ignoring the rest of your text, since you seem very mad for some odd reason, does this benefit me as well in I’m level 27? I only have 1 gold and I’ve been selling mats/drops and stuff like that. Does crafting help?

2 minutes, actually.

And it’s natural to be mad when a random nosey parker being cuts into someone’s enquiry with nothing to contribute but “I don’t know a single thing”. Not only it is nosey, it is rude and ill-conceived.

Crafting is, for the most part, useless unless you are going for legendaries. Doesn’t earn you any bit of money(unless you sell it via shout, but you run the risk of being scammed, etc).

No offense to you and I wasn’t trying to be a kitten but this is not your thread to get mad at so please, calm down. Let’s both agree to disagree and move on, thanks. Also apologies to OP.

So crafting is no way to make money. I’m Guardian too so Staff farming is the best option right now?

Crafting was profitable at the start when the marging betwen mat prices and gear pries were astronomic (People made 300+ gold this way).

The more you want money, the less you think you’re getting.
Seriously.

Lay back with your goals and think about it.
Play and enjoy, money is meant to flow in slowly in GW2, it is very controlled that you don’t get a ton of money in a little time span.

Short answer on how to make good money in GW2 is that you don’t. The people that have tons of money come in four basic flavors:

1) Bots
2) Precursor exploiters
3) Mass gem purchasers/converters (tons of money to blow IRL, current conversion is about $2.50 per gold)
4) TP Bots (or might as well be TP Bots)

Everything in terms of raw materials or drops is dirt cheap on the TP at this point in the game (1 copper over vendor price, etc.), and the margin on crafted items over raw materials cost is razor-slim. The only real way to make money legitimately right now is to dedicate yourself to being a TP bot; snipe people that have more scruples than to undercut by 1 copper (buy their legitimate lower price item and resell it for 1 copper less than the next lowest), or take the coppers-to-silver margin on crafted items and just deal with it by mass-manufacturing crafted items.

TL;DR GW2’s economy is godawful.

Run DE’s in Orr over and over.
Farm high level crafting mats.
Get with a good group and run dungeons.
“Play” with the TP – buy a ton of cheap items and sell them high.

Oh, after doing the above three things I usually have a ton of blues and greens I can sell. Around 30c-1s per gear.
I also sell ectos. Pretty much the same as what the OP does.

Just play the game. I don’t even know what to do with my gold, I’ve bought everything I can with gold. My armor needs dungeon tokens to obtain, I’ve got full exotic accessories, I even bought the 5 gold rare back.

Selling mats and salvaging rares is my primary income. Make sure you complete your daily achievements to cover your farming expenses (like magic find consumables).

Finally, I always have plenty of omnomberry bars handy (30% magic find and 40% more gold from monsters).

You’d be surprised at how many people just sell to the buy order, rather than posting their own sell order. Same thing happens over in EvE online.

How does one “play” the TP market?

You buy Dusk for 250g (just be sure to be at least 100g above normal players) and resell it at 400g+ easy (;

This game is free to play, but Anet relies on making money to keep the game going based on gem sales.

So they put gold sinks in the game to ‘almost’ force you to buy gems for gold.

When ever there is a good place to make gold in the game (besides playing the TP market) they will nerf it (and have nerf all the good farming spots already).

They have diminishing returns and other code in place to STOP farming.

Now, besides all that, there is still money (but a lot less) in L400 crafting, selling L400 harvesting material (which now spawns less), and farming (but keep moving zone/area to stop the DR kicking in)

Personally, I do dungeon instance runs with mates, as the loot that drops will scale to your level, farming a low level dungeon with mates (no deaths) = 3-7 rares and tons of greens and blues in 1 hr. But I mainly do it for the FUN of it. Farming = no fun and I would just by gems for gold instead. I play this game for fun.

I’ve clocked in about 300 hours and I’ve never felt the need to buy gems with real money.

I’ve bought plenty of gems, sure, but I use in game gold, which you’ll just naturally accrue by running dungeons, vendoring blues and greens or selling at the TP if you’re lucky enough to sell at a higher price, salvaging yellows for ecto, or farming crafting materials.

I like to explore low level zones, and with the heart quest rewards, event rewards, and selling drops, you can make a decent amount of money.
