DR gets taken off, farmer farms all mats, a normal player collects the mats while playing normally, farmer brings the mats price down, normal player can’t get money by selling what he collected now, normal player can’t get exotic jewels unless he has jewel-crafting

OTOH mats are cheap and more plentiful so normal player can easily level up jewelry and concentrate more on areas of the game s/he enjoys.

What is this Otoh? I googled it, but nothing come up. I’m interested in games and MMOs so I would probably want to look at it. Could you give me full name or a link to the website, please?

The prices of mats are increased to insane prices by people playing the TP and buying up the supply raising prices also. Bots farming and selling mats are the only counter to people driving up prices on the TP and how do we know if Anet deletes mats or anything in surplus off the TP. They could always buy things in bulk and delete them from the game.

1. Do you have proof of people buying out T6 mats and outbidding themselves?
2. Bot farming is what makes silk, mithril, gold and silver unsellable. Sometimes linen and copper are also so plentiful that you benefit from selling to a vendor. One of my guildies has collected stacks of mithril, leather and silk. We joked that if he vendored it all in he would get around 1G. In a game clean from bots he would get far more for that.
3. “and how do we know if Anet deletes mats or anything in surplus off the TP” a) it would not benefit them b) why are there so much of certain tiers of items? Like literally, millions and millions of low tier materials.

Like you know anything about economy. You said lower material price make it harder for normal player to buy exotic. When in reality nothing changes. Since lowering material price lower the price of exotic.

except that in reality that didn’t happen at the start of the game.
Exotics getting dropped as loot means that community puts a certain value on dropped exotics that make crafters unable to raise their prices above it (because they require ectos it often means that they end up losing money) and mat prices don’t influence them that much.

Legendarys take years to get? Why do I see everyone running around with legendarys then? And people with multiple legendarys.

1. Because they’re not patient and made farming cof their job for a month or so
2. Because they bought it off gold sellers
3. Because they know what items will be profitable and invested into buying some stuff out, holding it and selling it back months later
4. Because it’s been 7 months after the game got released and if they were earning around 10 gold a day after hitting level 80 they could have saved up above 2000 gold by now.

“We” are u saying u work for anet ? Also your other post to me that u play to enjoy the game might have washed when it was new its now 8 months you need to have something to show time invested otherwise why play an MMO, taken from an other MMO time is money friend

so all of that holiday content that you could have gotten to show that you’ve been playing from the very start doesn’t count?
8 months * 30 (days in a month) * 10 (if you manage to earn 10 gold a day) = 2400. You could have gotten a legendary playing steadily quite easily by now.

10g a day lol your a funny guy, 1-2g per day maybe but what’s the use in playing a MMO for an hr or two each day? Cause in my experience after that 1st hr is up and you got your nodes/daily done your g making rates drop so low it’s not worth my time.

I like the Farming nerfs.
I hate people running same stuff over again and players ‘LF cof speedruns’ and seeing Farmers have massive gold and corrupts the market and makes casual/non-farmers having to farm to enjoy the market or other parts of the game.
Just before GW2 released I was playing another MMO that whent from wonderfull to after five years it a fulltime job grinding for medallions, seals, tokens, with dungeons with different rewards values and that makes the easiest quickest and best achievement dungeon to be done over and over and over and over again…

I rather take care of real life stuff and get something real and usefull than farming the same thing over and over, days and nights for just some pixels.

I play Guild Wars 2 alot and I am just above an casual gamer I think, I don’t care for the legendary… I play the game for fun, not to earn bragging rights or being the best player in the game or compete with someone.
I guess I am about 20% away from getting all component I need for a Legendary and I haven’t farmed a single time.

Tbh i don’t care for the rng,but i do care that the champs can one shot you.
that alone is taken the fun out of the game.
Also temples like grenth takes the ****.

That is just how the game works, I had a hard time with this game in the beginning and I was so angry over how easy I die and so on, but this game is more like old Nintendo games.
Once you have learned to moves from your oponent and what to do, not to get hit is the best way… When you figured out how to fight your enemy you can almost handle every Champion in the game solo.

See… but you said this yourself, as a farmer, I hate hate hate farming, I hate it with a passion. But I feel like I have to farm because it’s the only way to get good items. I would much rather prefer to do wvw, or just go explore and do quests, or run around with the guild but instead of doing that, for the last 5 months I’ve been farming… you make an assumption that farmers are these greedy people, we’re not, I personally just want to get one set of good items, I’m not even going for a legendary… we farm not because it’s so amazing and profitable, we farm because the rewards everywhere else are terrible…

Why is Anet nerfing every single farming location that players find?
Diminishing Returns, Lodestone/Loot drop rate

WTF Anet?

Why are you discouraging people from playing your game so much?

And please before people bring out the old “GW2 is built for casual players”
it that was the intent its a dumb intent, if GW2 is to survive it has to cater somewhat to hardcore MMO players, I love the revamped combat etc. but I want to have legendaries be possible to obtain…
i’ve farmed for 3 months solid now and still have all my t6 mats and precursor to go in addition to 100 onyx lodestones, 200+ oricalcum ore and about 170 ectos…
You are nerfing farming locations why?

You say that you didn’t expect people to get legendaries so fast?
how does that make sense? if people love a game and something in the game they will spend hours to obtain it I don’t understand why you want to slow down people from getting legendaries…
It was hard enough after plinx karma chain got nerfed and then the nightmare of Diminishing Returns occurred, but you just keep nerfing things?

Why?

Nerfing things is not a fix all solution and catering solely to casual gamers will not work out for you…

also don’t pull the “just play the game and have fun” what if I find grinding fun?
I like to grind if its achievable because if I grind I feel like I accomplished something at least in this game, then the nerf’s happened…

If its not reversed soon me and your player population will leave, heck you’ve already lost a lot of your player base

1. A.net rather has a thousand casuals paying gems, than 1 hardcore who wants to farm. That’s a cold hard business fact. Has nothing to do with farming nerfs though, but rather to make casual a viable way to play the game. A game can never cater to hardcore and casuals at the same time, it’s impossible.

2. Grind by definition is not fun. It is not possible to have fun while grinding, because grinding simply isn’t fun by definition. If you like to farm, you’ll have to use other words to describe the activity others perceive as grind.

I grind and have fun doing it.. I farm and have fun doing it. The grind is self imposed, but I enjoy it. I dislike dungeons, not much of a pvper, and don’t like spamming events with my alts for chests. So I farm, and I don’t feel neglected or hated by Arenanet for doing so, well at least not until I ran into the wraith…

In 2 1/2 weeks I made about 200g, granted I play a bit and enjoy farming. I could teach pretty much anyone how to make at least 2g a day anywhere from level 10-80, and that doesn’t take long at all. You could get your 2-3g/hr for 1 hour, then just play the game. It is all about how you use your time.

I played gw1 for 5-6 hrs a day same with wow, rift swtor ect, I can’t, Play gw2 that long for no reward or diminished rewards for the time played. Time-reward basic MMORPG mechanic IMO.

Why not? At times I’ve played for 12-14 hours, sadly at times even longer.. I still am making money at hour 3, and still at hour 14. If it is money you are after, some things will always be easier to do to obtain it than others. But you CAN make gold just by playing the games events and DE’s etc. You just won’t make heaps of it, but then again you don’t really need heaps of gold to “enjoy” the game. Anything that does is a long term goal.

Yep. I’ve even done so to see the drops and rates at which I get drops. I don’t really have direction in GW2 anymore, I spend most my time just farming, running around the map dropping banners/events, and doing things that can help the community in one way or another. Much of which is stats, salvaging results, bag openings, etc etc.

Unless you are asking if I make X amount in 12 hours, and make that same amount in 1 hour? Then the answer is no. I make the same gold each hour, every hour I play, not the exact same mind you but generally the same average. I can make more or less per hour depending on how I feel.

I just hate how they keep punishing people for playing how they want to play. Nerfing drop rate with DR and adding way more powerful mobs that do not drop ANYTHING. All of which ends driving people away, which leads to less people doing these events, which leads to less mobs spawning, which leads to less loot.

Yet…one could trade on the TP 24/7 and receive zero penalty(aside from the tax, which everyone gets, not just TP traders) and can swim in gold.

Same thing with dungeon paths like CoF p1, which shouldn’t farming events, in cursed shore for example, pay out as much as CoF p1?

Cant stand dungeons myself, I enjoy doing DE and “farming” but with DR cant do well at the old gold making than ppl “farming” CoF1 and suffer less DR than ppl who “farm” the open world. I have fun enough when I play I WANT to play MORE but with DR to my loot/gold why play past the prime hour to get the most gold/hr ? since u enjoy Dungeons sooo much if they removed half the loot(including tokens) from them and make it as bad as open world, I bet you wouldn’t do them as much

Not really. I do them because it’s fun, not because I get loot. I have a bunch of tokens from SE, CoE and Arah just stacking in my bank. Deleted some from AC, CM and TA before to make space.
Except for tokens and straight up cash reward loot in dungeons is very minimal. Mostly you will never get anything else from chests than blues unless you’re really lucky.
DE farming is really kitten easy. Even if you don’t get the daily yellow, you can still get yellows in the chest, so all you have to do is have a couple of alts with places with map bosses unlocked, guest on 2 servers to make it faster and easier, follow the dragon timer and portal around a bit.
Never counted what’s my gold/hour is. I simply don’t care. If I would care I probably wouldn’t have just spent 3 hours leveling my alt on low level zones. I play the game for fun and the only time I’ll actually get annoyed about loot is when I don’t have enough + to cover armor repairs and waypoint costs (which only happened once and that was because I sent 2G to a friend that was desperately trying to get an item he really wanted)

Plus, if to speak about farming, unless you’re farming karka shells all T6 materials drop in more than just one place.

There have been a lot of complaints about nerfing farming. Dontain had a video on this way back in Nov of ’12. Other vets as well. So beyond scaling, it is obviously a problem.

But I think if anet is risking the backlash, there is a good reason. What if they need gem store support in order to keep a large staff to fix problems, put out new content etc… until an expansion is ready for purchase? Are we going to stop playing because we can’t farm? Or try to overlook it until the game has had time to get enough content to rate with the reigning monster of things to do…

Today we all expect a game to come out of the gate having everything a 10 year old behemoth has. Look at this game, the effort so far, and tell me anet is not committed to it. If I’m wrong, and they focus on gem store stuff more than making new content and coming up with original ideas as they have in the past, they will ultimately pay for it with their jobs.

Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt, it’s not like we’re paying subs.

I’ll say it. My gold income is pretty steady…but I don’t worry about it. I’m always doing different stuff in different areas. I don’t sit there was a gold meter, but my drops neither diminish or increase.

And if you moved around a bit, yours probably wouldn’t either. It’s only when you do the same thing over and over that the drops increase. Maybe you think most people prefer to play the game this way, but you represent a very small subset of the population.

Unfortunately, bots also tend to do that, and as a result, for the good of the game, it would be better for you to vary your routine than it would be for Anet to get rid of DR.

You always have cof. Just saying it.

And the gold stay the same from hour 1 to hour 12.

I don’t know what’s so funny about making 10 gold a day. Even with DR, you can probably make 5+ gold in the first hour. My guildmates sometimes claim they can make 8 gold in an hour from fish oil event. That being said, I havn’t played much after this patch, so I dont’ know if orr is being nerfed more.

You can move as much as possible. The reality is if I just farm on the few specific spot I’m still making way more gold than you.

The problem is only a few activity in the game actually make money. That’s why I never felt Anet bother to nerf farming. Because it is so kitten boring very few people will do it.

I have always had mixed feelings about farming. I’ve had games where there was nothing but farming (runescape), I’ve had games that were full of content but people only farmed (PSU), I’ve had games where the top of the top was pretty easy to get and farming wasn’t an issue (City of Heroes), and I’ve played games where people farm for some things but it is largely a singleplayer game (adventurequest).

I can kind see both the pros and the cons of farming and making materials that require you to farm for them. I myself do farm on occasion. I don’t go chasing after legendaries, but I have plenty of alts an I want at least 2 exotic sets on each of these alts because then they play differently and I have no idea what will be nerfed and buffed in the future. I’ve also had to change some equipment after doing some math and finding one is superior, and also I’ve had to get gold to get fine transmutation stones if the item I want and its stats don’t necessarily line up. The problem with this, of course, is that all of these different items aren’t cheap. To get a full exotic set, sometimes it costs 30 gold for the whole thing, maybe even more. Then to get the transmutation stones, you need to dump an ever changing amount of gold into the gem store. Then, you have get of a second set of armor/weapons (another 15-20 gold down the drain) that has the appearances you want, and transmute those over. All in all, any single “setup” on any of the characters of mine will take oodles of cash to get.

And I do not always have that cash on hand. As for people saying that they get several gold a day just doing casual play, I’d have to say that I am not one of those people. My luck is quite horrible so I rarely get rare drops, and in the end I would say that I get less than a gold an hour while playing the game regularly (not including hopping chest events and gathering ori). What I get are bits of junk that sell for a pittance of copper, and on occasion I’ll receive mats that are worth anything. This is all while doing events and running dungeons, btw, and not just standing around killing random mobs that cross my path like some blood hungry maniac. The latter nets me even less, so I don’t do that anymore.

The farming wasn’t too bad, either. Usually I would just go to cursed shore, find a group of people, and we’d walk around doing chest events and defense events. Since I didn’t have to do that much farming, I never got tired of this. I loved testing out new tactics and tricks on the hordes of enemies, figuring out what works and what doesn’t. And once you figure out what does work, oh boy do things get interesting. Then I can lay waste to all the enemies before me, doing incredible damage while staying alive. It gives this great feeling of power and accomplishment when you do this. But in the end I am really doing it for the gold, so I can get exotic equipment on an alt, and this equipment lets me repeat the “learn what works” process all over again.

And because of this, I hate nerfs to it. Sure, we have a bunch of people who only gather in one spot because it gives superior rewards and is fun to play, but getting rid of those spots doesn’t solve the issue. You still have a ton of players who will congregate to another spot, so they still aren’t playing the rest of the game’s content. Instead, you’ve just removed some way that a player has to make money and have fun at the same time, and every new grind and exploit that rears its head may not be.

There is a much better solution to this system. An old tactic used in other games was not to nerf the content people were playing, but to buff the content that people weren’t. If there’s an area that is empty, find out why and then improve that area. It might require a bit more work than just chopping off yet another head of the grinding Hydra, but in the end you don’t disappoint players. You just give them more options, more things to do, more places where they can have fun and get better rewards, and more entertainment overall. And that, my friends, is what appeals to casual players.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

IMO, Farming nerfs are killing this game

Just fyi farming isn’t nerfed. All you have to do is farm in one spot for 45 mins, zone to another farm spot for 45 mins, go back to the orginal.
BAM no DR on loot, your welcome now you can farm for hours and hours. Yes I have done this made 40g in 2 days.
