IMO Portal Price is too high

So you would rather have a cheap item that would invalidate one of the Mesmers main uses?

Well there is a vendor that sells Experimental Teleportation Guns, which do the exact same thing but are really cheap to buy:

I don’t understand why you would spend more than you have to for a one-time-use object, i thought the portal gun would be unlimited uses.

I am glad it is that high, I was afraid of what would happen in WvW if everyone was able to portal everyone else everywhere. What a nightmare.

It makes me question why they would even put it in the game in the first place. Better to leave it out than get our hopes up and spit in our faces.

They made it pve only.

They made it clear that the gun would be unusable in WvW and sPvP, so it would really only be useful for jump puzzles and pve stuff.

You’re playing mesmer wrong if that’s all you use it for.

I hadn’t seen anything just heard about it. Thanks for the clarification.

5g for a single port? THAT is a nightmare.
No one is going to use that…
From what i understand, the portal gun acts more like a portal (the game) gun does, only on the ground. The Exp Tele gun shoots you 900, giving you very limited distance and control over where a port starts and ends.
What makes the gun actually better than mesmer portals, seems to be you can shoot a portal somewhere away from you and an end portal somewhere else. I’ve yet to see it used however.
What would be really nice is a couple quick use slots… They keep adding these cons, be nice if we have a quick use slot somewhere on the bar.

It seems that that is not the case: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JER0RnXTzh8

Holy crap. What a horrific waste.
As a Mesmer, I’m glad that the cost is prohibitive. Don’t need non-Mesmers getting my unique abilities. Portal is more of a cooperative oriented skill anyways, so it isn’t like non-Mesmers are even prevented from using it to do fun stuff (like Jump Shot vs the Experimental Rifle’s jump which is similar).
For the “slow” crowd: It’s PvE only.
The item is useless. Should be permanent use.
Lol. Who wants to use that?
It’s incredibly expensive for a one time use thing. -.-

LOL at the Mesmer’s QQ here. I can see no logical reason for the QQ on a permanent portal ever making it to the game. “One of the Mesmer’s main use” ? really? As a Mesmer you consider that your main use?
I must be playing my Mesmer wrong… o.O
But to your post…yes…5g for a 10s portal is beyond ridiculous.

This item would make a Mesmer having portal on their own utility bar useless. Not only would other classes gain a unique class ability, but it would also be so good that even the class with the actual ability would shelve that utility and never use it again, as they would simply use the item, freeing up another utility slot.
How about we get a plethora of click-ables that replace every utility? Then we don’t even need the utility bar, or specific classes, we can just play any class we want with an open inventory clicking all of our skills. Sounds like an absolutely boring and tedious way to play.
If you want a Mesmer skill, bring a long a Mesmer, or pay your arm and a leg for this item.

I already consider having portal on my utility bar useless…so again, I would not have a problem with a permanent portal being in game.

Anet would then have to replace Portal as a utility skill with another unique skill for Mesmer. They are not going to do this. Instead they will simply leave this superiour skill costing an arm and a leg, so that they won’t be infringing upon Mesmer skills.
There is no “Mesmer QQ” here, as the only people complaining are the ones that want a preposterous change to be made. Its not going to happen.
Mesmers already have probably the best utilities in game, especially for PvE. You have feedback, decoy, signet of inspiration, portal, veil, null field, and blink, among others. Apparently they are so good that Anet valued one at 5g per use. Losing sole access to it would hardly ruin you.
And even if this portal was more affordable, and it cost “only” 5s to make a portal you would be saving 5s every use of your portal skill (and you still have free reign in WvW), so it would hardly be a “waste” of a utility slot.

Number of people that will be using this item: 0
Should of course have been multiple uses, or unlimited uses.

I like powerful and valuable consumables, so I think an infinite one would be stupid. Everyone would be running around with the things lifting up hundreds of people to the jumping puzzle solutions. It would be awful.
The price appropriately reflects its power, but the consumable is not powerful if you can’t use it in WvW. The only real use for this item is to teleport your stupid fat lazy friends up to the jumping-puzzle solution and I’ll never spend big money on that.
Remember when they nerfed all consumables in WvW? Some were bullcrap, others like planks and jars of bees weren’t really. Now you cant even use consumables in dungeons. Why don’t they just go ahead and remove them all and stop playing with us.
And no, consumables shouldn’t be replacing important class mechanics. I don’t play a mesmer, but I wouldn’t want my unique ability to be cope-pasted by everybody with two coins to rub together. What if they came out with something to replace my Engineer’s useful ability to…….. whatever, just shut up >:(

Wow, no wonder it was so easy for me to get the recipe… I’m disappointed. Actually, I thought it was going to give you kind of a permanent personal waypoint… Like an actual personal waypoint (perhaps free) rather than a map marker, so that it would make it easier to get around to your favorite locations. If it did that, I wouldn’t mind a high-cost one-time use item. But I guess that’s not the case… Wonder if I should just sell my recipe now before everyone figures out how useless it is.
Depending on how long sprockets are available, Id say this is a decent cost for ports.
For the “fast” crowd: Items should not invalidate unique class abilities, even if it is PvE only.
Ok, we need to remove every other item in the game, as almost all of them overlap class abilities.
Stealth? Thieves.
Healing? Several classes, but mostly staff eles and guardians.
Giving protection? Guardian.
Etc, etc.
Just about any item in the game does something another class does and can often by defined by. Irrelevant. There’s no reason why Mesmer should be the only class to have access to Portal (IN PVE) anymore than there’s no reason Guardian should be the only ones capable of giving out protection or Thieves stealth, among other things. It’s a utility skill, it’s not a class mechanic. If the item created clones any class could shatter then I would somewhat understand your complaint.
Also, if what defines your mesmer is using portal, you are useless as a mesmer. In fact, you’re not a mesmer, you’re a Tyrian Taxi Cab.
Do people know that the devs have expressed they wish to add the portal mechanic to other professions? It’s probably what will happen once we get access to new utility skills across all professions.
It doesn’t makes sense that Mesmers are the only profession to get one of the most important mechanics in this game. This does not happens with any other utility in this game. If you are a Mesmer, play it if you like the illusions, the trickery and the butterflies. But portal should be treated like any other utility mechanic and exist for more than one profession.
I don’t think it needs to be “permanent,” but give it 100 charges or something at that price…
So many people in this thread mad that they can’t have cheap ports. Kind of hilarious.
You knew way before this update came out that the personal portals would be expensive. The designer explicitly stated such.
Don’t like it? Roll a mesmer.
You should be able to recharge it at the mystic forge by combining it with some number of sprockets. Or it should have been a one use per day type item. It’s really not valuable the way it is currently implemented.

Who’s mad? I haven’t seen any “mad”…’
It’s a simple fact…price doesn’t not reflect the end result. What’s so “mad” about stating that fact?
Mesmer here, I agree it’s too expensive. 50s or less and it would actually be used. charged core instead? or have it have 5 or 10 charges instead of 2.
my reason is that a lot of classes have faily unique skills that are bypassed by utility items:
some classes have leap skills, there’s teleport gun to replace that (32c)
stealth? spy kit (28 karma for 10s stationary or 16c for 3s of able to move)
pets? many, ogre pet whistle for one (1s4c for 5 min of pet)
and now portal? watchwork portal (1.5g!!!)
the only way they could justify 1.5g was if it did something the mesmer portal doesn’t, such as last for 60 seconds once connected or unlimited range (within the same area).

It’s actually more like 5g once you consider all the mats it takes to craft it.
The thing I really don’t get is how do you craft it once this event is over and sprockets are gone? They should have made it permanent and unique with a long cooldown like 1-4 hours. That way its actually worth making or buying and mesmers still get to keep there unique skill that apparently many feel is there only redeeming quality. I always thought they were good for warp and massive shatter but I guess its just mass transit…
I think they stated somewhere sprockets will be a permanent implementation.
Well if this is the case at least they are an item that can be made year round then instead of something that the price will rise out of sight due to the mats being seasonal. And given the flood of cores due to the champion change the cost will fall at least a bit. Still I think unique with a long cooldown would have made a lot more sense.
