IMO Salvaging rules are ridiculous
because there will be hundreds of people that salvage their dungeon items, temple armor and what not on accident. Reason being that they were drunk, rage quit, someone hacked the account etc. This leads to large amounts of support tickets and the forum being flooded with people demanding the item back, even tho it’s their own fault. Example : Topics with people complaining about that they “accidentally” npc’d their items. Call it safety lock
The rules about what you can and cannot salvage are ridiculous.
You can’t salvage armor or trinkets from temples.
You can salvage armor, but not weapons, from dungeons.
You can’t salvage anything from the WvW vendor.Really? Is this necessary. Why make everything so throwaway?
Why are you buying all this Karma/Dungeon/WvW Currency gear and then not using it? For the most part people buy it for the looks and use them as skins.
For the most part if you paid coin for it or it was dropped, you can salvage it.

The first and last one has to do with the currencies that you use to get them. Being able to salvage stuff that you can buy with Karma or WvW badges would result in a very direct, very good way to make cash.
Throw them in the mystic forge and then you can salvage them or even sell them.
And the reason it’s that way is so there isn’t a direct gold to karma exchange. Which is nonsense now with the boxes and how you can easily just mystic forge the items.

That was not the reason why salvaging this stuff got disabled. It was disabled because people salvaged those items for ectos, in times when there were no guaranteed rare+ drops in this game, thus severely increasing ecto supply.
Of course, the game changed significantly since that time, and this is no longer needed, but noone bothered to fix it yet.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
It’s an attempt to prevent the creation of gold-generating from items that aren’t obtained with gold. Anything bought with kama or badges or tokens…these can’t be resold or salvaged into things that can be resold to prevent farming a non-gold currency to generate gold. If there is an exception to that rule, it’s because Anet deemed it not a viable way to exploit the market.

Because I change my mind and the rune is more valuable than the armor.
Edit: Also, my complaint is that is incredibly inconsistent. Sometimes you can salvage things sometimes you can’t and there is very little rhyme or reason (collectively, I understand why each change was made, but unfortunately it makes things weird)
