Good Evening (Morning, for some) Folks!

After the last word from ANet, disbanding the heinous offender (or offenders) of insider trading, it appears we have a contender! Today brings us news of an individual or group individuals who has recently dropped 30k gold on Plastic Fangs.

The original subreddit post can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/56n7ct/plastic_fangs_30k_gold_idiotic_speculation_or/

30k gold is quite the commitment. It could be a very risky speculation on the buyer’s part, or it could be Plastic Fangs will have some value, come the Halloween patch, which brings us the Halloween events. Or, as some of the naysayers will point out: It could just be that someone REALLY likes Plastic Fangs.

Either way, we’ll see what develops in the next week or two. I’d like for those of you to care, to please put this on your radar, as we continue to enjoy this ongoing struggle to bring morally correct business practices to the game of Guild Wars 2.

You dont need to be inquest scientist to realize that halloween will probably bring some gear/achievement/recipe/something that require fangs… looking at spidy, the cost has been increasing for several days now. Someone with 30k to blow and store that many fangs probably already have 200k+ gold so thats probably a minor investment.

Meh. Every year so far we’ve had plastic fangs, more plastic fangs and even more plastic fangs in our inventories. I was vendoring stacks of it last year and I’m expecting to get loads more with this holiday too. Let’s wait till the holiday arrives before we care if someone wasted gold on buying them and how many stacks we get from opening up containers.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

It’s not a “business practice” for crying out loud. It’s expecting ethical behavior from your testers and “influencers” who were shown a preview. You would think that after the last crackdown someone would be so stupid.

It’s more likely someone(s) looked at the festival mats for Halloween and speculate that ANet would likely come up with a way to use that mat to drain the excess.

There is also movement, on Chattering Skulls. down 5.8 million @ 30c with 1.25 million @ 30c to go and Nougat Center, down 1.4 million @ 30c with 6.3 million @ 30c to go. This is looking at the past month.

All three had 10+ million on the TP at minimum TP price. That’s begging for something new to tap into that excess, not to mention all that’ll drop during the event. And being the “raw” mat, if ANet introduces a new refined mat, it’ll likely still use those raw mats in some degree.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

RIP City of Heroes

It would be fun if ArenaNet introdocued a new currency and replaced plastic fangs for this Halloween. Wow that person who invested 30k would be so miserable.

ANet has mentioned that they have the ability to modify recipes, etc, as late as the morning of the patch, so if there appears to be insider trading with a specific item they can change what the recipes require.

On the other hand, if this is someone just speculating, I don’t know if ANet has the tools to see that it’s that and NOT someone with inside knowledge, but it seems to me that with this revelation it will make speculation an even riskier business than usual.

Sigh. Before claiming that people are engaged in nefarious behavior, it would be nice if you would actually provide evidence of behavior that is nefarious. Speculation happens all the time — what makes this speculation different from others? You’d have to ensure that this is truly unusual and that the only times it has happened has been due to insider information.

Second, nearly all the examples that have been brought up in these forums and reddit have not been examples of people benefiting from insider information. ANet debunked that myth when they responded to the repeated allegations.

Third, “IT” is more commonly used as an abbreviation for “Information Technology” — be careful when you use it to mean something entirely different.

@Illconceived Was Na – I agree with you, someone who is witchhunting should bring evidence to back it up. But I do also have to say that dropping 30k gold on something like plastic fangs is pretty far out there in terms of speculation. 2, 5, even 10k I can see just being speculation, but 30k gold is pretty significant for any player.

Regardless though, either way I don’t see this working out for the investor. If it is insider trading, then ANet will more than likely change the recipes so that the investor doesn’t benefit from it. If it isn’t then there isn’t even a guarantee of making money off this speculation.
