Idea: New Races as Outfits
I’m not so sure the Raiment actually changes the legs so much as bends them and puts on an extra long foot. It looks the same to me as well-made RL satyr legs (I’ve gone to my fair share of cons and long before “cosplay” was a term people were doing hall costumes and masquerade contest costumes).
What you’re looking for is a tonic that can be used in combat and doesn’t have a five minute use with a one hour cooldown.

All that outfit does is swap the leg model or basically makes the old character skeleton “invisible” from the waist down and puts its new look ontop of it.
And might I say, it doesn’t look that great. I thought about getting it but it’s just not good and it’s limited.
And I disagree with races as outfits because:
A: Again, it doesn’t look all that great. The races aren’t polished enough to be worried about making them outfits.
B: It’s cheap. Don’t need to waste time on making the races outfits and making all the animations for such a limited system. Tonics I can get behind though, as they’re purely for fun.
C: It’s a cop out. I want real race choices with custom options for my race, build, and armor to dress it in. Not to mention, it skips out on a lot of what people want more races for (culture, customization, story).
Just my opinion, btw.
I understand wanting new races to play around with….
But this idea seems so horribly cheap. For that reason, I’m not supporting this.
I suspect it would be very limited. One look with no real customization. A single appearance for the race and a set armor or outfit with 4 dye channels.
For example: this Tengu, except with some ability to dry the armor.
ANet may give it to you.
Isn’t this why we have tonics? Granted we don’t have a lot of combat tonics.
The last thing I’d want is for them to start selling racial outfits. If it becomes too much of a fad, they might bypass making new races altogether and just try to get the most out of selling racial outfits instead.
As it is I’m not a fan of outfits, so this would be a big loss for me.
Nope, I don’t think it’s a good idea.
The great thing about having new races is the lore that surrounds it. It has to make sense, and it has to be present in the living world.
I don’t want to have new races running around Tyria, wondering how they popped here or not able to learn more about them.
New races might come eventually, we have the Tengu and the Kodan for example already present. Who knows?
Then having an asura outfit on your norn or charr will create a norn sized asura, or vice versa, making a charr out of your asura, will make a charr barely bigger then a mini.
And remember they are outfits, dress up…
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
I actually don’t see a problem with this idea. It is no different from tonics, I agree with that, but it would be nice to have some fun racial outfits you can wear in combat, plus with the ability to dye them as well. The combat tonics are ok, but they are very limited in their use in my opinion. They only last for a short while and have a very long cooldown, which to me limits how much fun and flexibility you can get out of them. Having race outfits, or disguises if you will, would allow us more freedom and flexibility than combat tonics.
Of course, a complete new race would be better, but race outfits could be a nice for funzies way of adding them, while we wait for the real thing. Which I do not see us getting until they add a new campaign.
Also, I do not think race outfits would stop Anet from adding a complete new race, because a race is more than just an appearance. A new race will have a completely new story, as well as new racial abilities. So having fun ‘disguises’ would be ok in my opinion, as I believe it would not reduce our chances of a new race in the future. Anet will want to tell us the story of the new race, not just give us a new look.
