Not sure if I am like most people or not – but I never use transmutation charges before I have gear I am going to stay with for a long time – as in Level 80.

I’m sure everyone would love to look cool at level 10 or 20 – but there is no reason to waste a transmutation charge on gear like that.

What if you could take a normal transmutation and divide it into say, Transmutation Dust or a Shard… 1 normal becomes 4 dust/shard. Level 1 to 60 gear would use 1 dust/shard each… Above that would take a normal charge.

I know I would start to use/buy charges at that point. Just an idea to let people express themselves early on without them feeling like they are wasting money on customizing gear that they wear for 2 hours. Plus you might sell quite a bit more Trans Charges on the gem store.

I think that was kinda how transmutation worked at launch (with the basic transmutation stones and such), and they just changed it to a general transmutation charge. So that’d be kinda a step backwards. This was done likely because the level 80 version was a lot harder to get.

+1 because that is a very real problem I am having! I like to change my looks with all my toons but when I’m leveling my lower level toons they always look beat up during the lvling process maybe a drop-able “transmutation shard” and 80 reg transmutation charge would be a good option. And since they are lvl locked people can’t go around the limits. Only problem I see in this is how you will merge with PVP.

Leave 80 for how it is now and just add the others with a drop rate. You won’t be changing anything with reg transmutation charges just adding for lower level toons. And all 79 and under stone make them same drop rate a common thing. Better to sell that to NPC then the broken junk etc… Back in launch people didn’t have as many skins now that skins are being put back in the spotlight would be a good time to reintroduce.

Not sure if you got the point, but it was that the level 80 version was not as abundant making it harder to transmute skins for 80’s than for lowbies. People have been complaining about the need for transmutation charges to re-apply a skin they bought from the Gem Store already, how much worse do you think it’d be if the transmutation charges were split back into two categories?

Making the lowbie ones a drop might make it too available… They wouldn’t be able to sell them on the Gem Store at all if it was dropped from mobs. If they changed what lowbies got from their dailies and map completion into the lowbie version, then that means to get the level 80 version, you’d need to save map completion and stuff for your level 80 characters. The separation just makes it a bit too complicated, in my opinion.

Instead of re-separating the transmutation charges, what you could be asking for is to make them more common (or even guarantee 1 charge) as a reward for dailies or something. (I think they’re already guaranteed for map completion, but not too sure) This would give you more charges to play with for your lower level characters if you want.

Honestly I think how they have them now is great. Gives map completion that much more of a reason to be done. Imo at lvl 80 you should maybe change your armor what 2 or 3 times top. Once you have your max armor you won’t be changing it unless you run a different build. And with how common or uncommon they are now it makes it enough so you can reskin your last armor. And if you need more go to TP coin for gem and you get a whole new set going! I just don’t like wasting those that a bought or got from map completion on an armor ill only have for a few hours. When I level my toon ill run for example lvl 20 armor till 30 or 35 so i don’t want to be using transmutation every 10 or so levels.

By that same logic, you may also choose not to transmute them at all. If you’re gonna only be wearing it for a short while and feel that using up the charges you have will be a waste, then the simple answer will be to not transmute.

If you’re adamant in wanting to look your best even for that few hours, then spend the charges. If you’re asking for a different more available type of charge only for lowbies, then the problem of design without ruining sales that I described before needs to be addressed. If you want a reversal back to the old system, the complaint of not having enough charges for level 80 characters will sky-rocket.

It’s not a simple problem to fix if you want something but don’t want to break the balance that is already there.

Idk changing skin for a few hours is reason enough to want to look nice at least for me; just not at the same level as 80. And if the way you get transmutation charges doesn’t change from how it is now only the people who are ignorant to the fact will be complaining. But I do agree this might not be as easy of a change.

For me the 79 under charges should be a common thing with no real monetary value. And level it spawns are based on level on current map.

Example: white transmutation charge changes gear 1-15 and spawns in all 1-15 areas. All 79 under charges have common drops but white/blue/green etc… only to know what level range each charge changes.

Yes!
I have this problem (better yet, had) because I wanted to look “cool” with my shiny weapons and armor at low lvl,but I don’t have transmutation charges to waste like that,so what I did was buy a outift !

The Ceremonial armor is one of the coolest armor in the game IMO,and it looks great,I can’t stop changing it’s dyes,I used it even on some of my lv80 characters that had armor problems (like my Ranger)

I prefer the new system. I prefer getting full transmute stones vs the old non-80 ones.

Hey dude you are walking into a wall.

I think a nice solution would be to allow sub 80 characters to transmute sub 80 gear for no charge.

All 80 gear and all 80 characters will need to pay full price.

This was the mechanics during launch. Unfortunately arena net’s profit generation is not looking good at the present. So they have to cut down the stones and make it rarer so people have to use gemstore.

Luckily those veterans who have the stones during launch have all their trans stones converted so only the new players are suffering from this.

I can definitely see from a profit point of view why this would be a problem. Well if it stays as is then toon skins will be “end game content”.

Getting to end game in this game is easy so it wouldnt be a problem. You can be 80 in less than a week if you choose to.

I generally like how they changed it to the new charges system – since a charge is always a charge, no matter what level the character is. But it can be quite annoying for my pile of alts, since I usually had quite some lesser stones available. And I can’t level if my characters don’t look nice! Sooooo fashionaholic as I am, I made it into a mini game/challenge to preserve both my charges and sanity. Now whenever I level a character (pre-April patch they usually already looked like they would at max level), I try to stretch the gear as long as I can without taking hours to kill one enemy, usually I’ll go for about 10-15 levels. Then I store that original set in my bags so I remember the pieces and dyes used. After that I get a fresh new set from crafting or TP, (or at certain levels, cultural pieces) but allow myself one transmutation charge. I have tons of fun with mixing and dying the pieces as well as deciding on the best use for that single charge to complete the look! Then whenever I change again in 10-15 levels, I try not to use the previously used piece for my charge.

So yeah, take away low level transmute sucks, but I’ll just make my own kitten fun!
In hindsight, despite the inconvenience I actually enjoy it more this way.^^
