I don’t know if this idea has been thought of, but I noticed that a lot of these bots are running around naked cause they die so much. Well how about we make it so weapons break too. I am sure this will not be something long term, but right now.. these bots would pretty much be made useless without weapons to use skills. What is everyone’s thoughts?

Todays MMO players wont tolerate Durability on weapons etc, You can see already they demand that it be removed on gear. The days where our stuff broke an eventually locked at a lesser level are long gone (Daoc). I personally believe gear/weapons should be like Daoc had em,w here you can only repair things x number of times, then it locks the pieces at 75% of what they once were.

Those were in fact the good old days, Tassy. Unfortunately, most games today are aimed at Angry Birds players rather than Ultima vets.

As far as the OP’s idea goes, I doubt it will work. Passive measures simply don’t deter botting, and hurt the entire playerbase. Botters are already finding ways to circumvent DR, for example. The only real deterrent is strong, active enforcement, but that’s hard to do even on a subscription-based game. On a game that only requires an initial purchase, you really need to keep your operating costs low, which means keeping a minimum number of personnel on payroll.

Pretty much the only idea that comes to mind is to have a very strong mob spawn and attack players who stay in one area for too long. Give it powerful attacks that you can active-dodge and high HP so a player would be able to defeat or evade it, but a scripted bot wouldn’t be able to deal with it properly. Could even make gameplay more interesting for legitimate players if implemented well.

Add a system that’s good at detecting continuous identical patterns in character behavior or warping locations. The offending player could be frozen to the floor until a GM took a look at them because they were alerted to the offending players activity based off of continuous co ordinate based paths impossible to replicate by a human hand.

Show me the way to log off….im tired and i want to go to bed.

Not sure this will work. Bots could easily add a RNG based key-press at every interval of key-presses.
