I happened on the person shown in the attached image while playing yesterday and immediately noticed that they had the ArenaNET logo following their name. For the sake of their privacy I’ve removed their name – but was this an ArenaNET employee and if so is this how we identify them in world?

Yes. That was an Anet employee who was representing the Anet Guild. The red emblem is their guild tag.

Yes, it is a guild tag, and only ANET can have the arena net logo.

They’re around more often than you think. They can choose when to display their guild tag. And some of the more well-known ArenaNet folks have multiple accounts. Back in GW1, I believe Gaile Gray said she had at least three accounts and only one of them was her “official” ArenaNet account — the others were for when she wanted to go incognito (and for alts to store her vast menagerie of mini-pets ).

There might be more than one janitor, unless that janitor is really very good.

They seam only on US-servers? I played for about 2.5k hours on Gandara – one of the biggest EU-servers and never saw any anet guild tag.

There are usually a lot of them during launch of feature pack and living story, especially if there are a lot of bugs.

Encountered one when I was on Ruins of Surmia. Outside of that all other occasions have been on NA.

The first time I saw one was at a world boss run, didn’t have a clue what the red emblem thing meant. I thought it was just another form of commander status. After finding out what it really was I’ve seen a few of them around (once in DR, another when LSS2 was released and no one could complete a part of it coz the NPC wasn’t dropping a specific item) and one other running past at another world boss run).

Lol I caught one in WvW about a year ago “glitching” through a tower gate. His reaction on the forums when he saw the screenie was priceless but he was honorable and left the tower both times until the gate went down.

I normally see them running the train at eotm or battling tequatl. I see them fairly often though.
