If I would’ve started GW2 now, I would still like it; but certainly not love it.
The original GW2 had a great environment for newbies, that didn’t made you feel like a newbie. You took part of the action around you and by level 30 you were almost a complete player. You could do a dungeon and toss out your elite skills like a grown up char.
Now you are crap until you are 80.

Correction.
You’re still crap at 80 if you’re not zerker apparently.

Excellent post. Especially like the Picasso reference and that you understand how important learning and adapting is.
This new patch effectively takes a bat to our knees and forces us to crawl, telling us that crawling is all we can do and that we shouldn’t aspire for more or better or even earlier things (like how it was before this patch) because “those things don’t exist and never did, so shut up and take it or you’ll be shot (forced to quit).” It’s like the Hammer and Sickle flag was just raised all over this game.
These PvE design changes don’t respect players ability to learn and adapt.
They wouldn’t have implemented this change if there wasn’t anything wrong, no?
But is it the right solution?
For the veterans (= everyone who played with the old system): No, it creates a tutorial experience for every new character created, which is not necessary. Though some stuff, like the rewards every few levels are good as it creates a sense of progression.
For the new players (= who never played the game before this patch): Only Anet knows. And it’ll take a while for them to gather the metrics, as the influx of new players has slowed down since launch.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
Yeah… so basically they made it easier for new players to get into the game. “veteran” players are now angry because, why? Oh the inference of ‘crawling’. You people won’t be happy until every character starts at 80 with all abilities and traits unlocked. Some of us like leveling, some of us like the feeling of progress, unlocking abilities and skill.

Angry? I’m frustrated. ArenaNet’s response to the issues in question are what have the potential to make me angry.
I actually love leveling up and getting new traits; what I do not appreciate is being told when I can and cannot do something
Utilities unlock at level 14, 24, 35 and 40. This is my main problem with the game right now because I am leveling two new characters: a Necromancer and an Elementalist.
