I have played since beta, but the recent changes (or restrictions) on build choices (traits) has me seriously considering moving to a different game.

My builds used ALL aspects of the game as I expect most seasoned players did. From trait stats, mix/match armor/weapons/trinkets, food, infusions, runes, sigils, wvw buffs, etc. I enjoyed robbing stats from one to prop up another which seems no longer available since the June 23 patch. It has also add the need for more of the same stat weapons/trinkets/armor (more crafting, ugg).

This seems to be a pattern for MMO’s as a very similar situation happened in World of Warcraft when they expanded WOTLK to CATA (imo of course). It also seems to be done to find new players by care-bearing the system, but it also profoundly steps on the backs of the seasoned players that supported the game from it’s release.

If I have to relearn my entire play style due to the sweeping changes the devs made. I might as well look at all MMO’s on the market since I’m relearning how to play anyway.

Just my two cents, glad I didn’t pre-purchased, came close, let the flaming commence <smirk>.

BTW, It doesn’t seem as if the healing stat scaled up with damage either. Yes/No?

First of all. Adapt or Die :-)

Secondly, you seem to be saying that the patch makes buildcrafting harder, but then you say that it is “Care-Bearing” the system. I mean, it can’t be both.

GW2 has been trying for a long time, unsuccessfully (imho), to make the trait system less of a clusterkitten. I think they finally got it right with this patch (I don’t have to do random PvE nonsense or spend gold to unlock traits? Awesome!).

As for completely relearning your entire play style… really? I mean… you have to pick new traits, but relearning everything? You’re being a little hyperbolic there.

Then again, this is the internet.

The only thing that changed is that you don’t randomly pick up 300 points of Condition Damage in your Power build just because you wanted a particular GM trait.

Most people aren’t likely to need new gear, beyond maybe one changed trinket or something if they were really precisely fine-tuning their stats.

if you’re seriously going to complain about all the changes that have occurred WHEN YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED GW2 SINCE BETA…that’s all on you bro.

i have no sympathy for you. I didn’t even finish reading your post. Don’t play MMOs then.

If you want a game you can play for 10 years without having to change your playstyle, I suggest buying a good single player game and then turning off your modem.

Not trying to be a kitten, but literally every mmo out there (and every online game in general) changes from time to time. So if youre looking for games that wont change youre looking in the wrong place.

From another post, but more to the point… https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/What-happened-to-Play-your-way/first#post5233643

Warlock.7136 “People have run the math. there are literally less build options availible now. this is a simple immutable fact. i feel the pain of the “we lost play your way” crowd. i posted a similar thread about how this update made 20+ characters’ builds(MY builds) unrecreatable. my main a rez engine ret dmg tank for wvw was able to be recovered to 75% of what he was. but it cost me 100g+ and 70 ectos. this was just because of the stat change. would it have been so hard for anet to given us a one time stat change on our gear instead of charging us a ludicrous amount of gold just to deal with this update?
on the trait note 1-2 charcters per class can now play the only useful builds in each class. i had 4 level 80 wars all with differnt fun builds. now all my wars read the same. Max trait line for weapon/max trait line for healing/max trait line for utility.
they have taken the spectrum of build “colors” as it were and replaced it with a black and white min/maxer system. i have been with gw1 sense initial NA release of prophecies. i buy from gem shop to support them including my 20+ character slots that are now useless(thanks for taking my money and then reducing what i bought to garbage) i also buy 2 of every expansion they have made.(one for me and one for my wife) but that too won’t be happening unless we see a rollback update or an announcement of a minimum 5 new trait lines for each class. my wife who has enjoyed playing with me all these years has all but stopped playing because they ruined the one character she played. i think it says something about the direction of the game when they chase off so many original gw players who have supported this company for years(as mentioned above even financially) again i’ve said my piece let your unhelpful hate posts spew forth.”

I dont agree with OP but i wanted to point out he said he played since beta,,not that he stopped at beta, meaning he played from when the beta started until now.

Anyway these new changes made more build viability, if you just look at the current meta. That is proof these changes were good, even if you have to adapt. And no one will miss you, leaving the game is an empty threat, im tired of seeing it on this forum. The problems this new system creates are easily outweighed by the benefits.

EDIT: Yes we have less diversity, but those kind of builds didnt help, they hurt. There is less diversity and mote viability. I will take viability anyday.

Sounds like a sub-optimal, unviable build you were running (and no, not an elitist or such). If you have to re-learn your own playstyle, then thats on you. Improving your own playstyle / build is something you should always look to improve upon. Even if it is for fun.
But I’m guessing you would be more partial to the nerf hammer to be called upon, if things weren’t going your way.

Of the professions I’ve actually played since 6/23 (Thief, Ele, Necro, Guardian), I’ve noticed some minor changes in background numbers and in access to certain desired abilities. For instance, my elementalist no longer has to choose 1 or 2 of the GM traits Pyromancer’s Puissance, Evasive Arcana and Cleansing Water, but instead can have them all. Even so, none of those four required me to relearn a play style. At most it is minor adjustments because I have a couple of different options — no more issue than slotting a couple of utility skills I don’t use much.

If I had to guess, I’d say the OP’s real complaint is the limitations to theory-crafting inherent to reducing options. Completely changing play style seems a stretch since play style is more determined by weapon choices than anything else, and that has not changed.

Depends – P/P thief has no supportive traits anymore – so using them would be a sub optimal choice, SA has been nerfed which hurts D/D thieves, so running D/D is a bad choice, acrobatics has changed so maybe running S/D (not my weaponset) is a bad choice. With our only condi cleanse having been nerfed as well, thieves have indeed to switch to D/P and ports to survive in Wvw – PvE doesn’t matter, never did. So if you’re using all your classes in PvE alone you won’t really notice a change.

I only know about thieves – maybe it’s similar to some other classes who have to bin certain weaponsets (for wvw) as well.
