Q:

If I leave GW2 for six months and come back, will I be able to play all of the content in the game? Keep in mind I am level 80 in full exotics.

Sure. Why not? Thats seems to be what the theme of the game is centered around. Everyone can play everything.

You still can run everything, even with Fotm. You play up to 10 levels, which is 30 runs. Then you start needing the resist gear. If you like the Fotm, then you get the gear.

Personally, I do not really care for the Fotm, and am waiting for other methods of obtaining Pink gear.

I dont see why not it isnt a subscription based game, so you can play anytime. You will probably have to farm the ascended gear by then. Just pop in every so often maybe just for the monthly events to get your goodies and then come back when you are ready to play. I have never had a problem, even with subscription games, always got my account back. Problem with them tho unless you pay the subscription you cant play, here you can come and go as you please at any time.

Yes. As far as it goes now, you can do everything in the game in exotics. But it really depends on how in depth you go. You can do FoTM but at lvl20+ you’ll probably need to update your gear (but hopefully it happens as you finish levels which is the point). You can do WvW too, but if you wanted to keep track on how many 1v1s you win, then that’s a meta game that shouldn’t exist. But as far as new content goes, unless they raise the level cap. You can do everything in exotics.

Whats up Boors.

Depends on the release date of future full on expansions (which may increase the level cap) I’m willing to bet that won’t happen for more than a year though, so until then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.

I fell behind from launch by about 2 months, because my computer was broken and even though I had the Limited Edition I couldn’t play it in a month I achieved everything people achieved from the beginning and now am enjoying my level 80s in exotic gear. Even if they introduce more levels and more gear, even if I stopped playing and came back months later I’m pretty sure that I’ll catch up no prob. There’s nothing you actually lose by falling behind, so go ahead, have a break

Hey Lefty. I’m probably not taking a huge break, but trying to get some perspective. I’m really burned out on Fractals and there are so many other good games coming out. I’m kinda concerned that with vertical progression I will get left behind.

I am confident that even if you started playing for the very first time, there will always be a way to very quickly catch up.

I wouldn’t worry too much, Anet admitted to screwing up with Fractals, they will have Ascended gear released everywhere else shortly including WvW.

It’s at the point where I won’t bother with Fractals either anymore and just continue with WvW. I take breaks everyonce in a while too, I take a week off, play some Halo or something and come back and don’t have issues.

They said there’s an update concerning WvW coming very shortly aswell so I’d atleast wait and see what that entails.

Honestly? No one knows.

Already the Difficulty Level # in the Fractal dungeon is dividing people faster than a standard MMO raid progression system. In Monday’s Reddit AMA, ArenaNet admitted that this was relatively accurate and they’re trying to figure out how to solve this problem. One of the ideas which they put into their Reddit response had to do with lumping people into x5 Difficulty Level tiers. However that still won’t help people 6 months from now if they’re still in Tier #1 (aka Difficulty 1-5) while the majority of players are sitting at Tier #6 or higher.

While ArenaNet have mentioned previously that they don’t want to raise the level cap unless it’s through an expansion, they have started the gear escalation game through Ascended pieces. On the one hand, they said in the Reddit AMA that they didn’t want to make insane grinds for these since they were something that you were supposed to do on the side while you grinded towards your Legendary. But at the same time, they also mentioned that they wanted Ascended pieces to have a time commitment that was somewhere in between Exotic and Legendary gear. Since that’s a heck of a large window, no one knows where ArenaNet will eventually fall within that range.

ArenaNet also stated that they were going to add Ascended gear into the WvW and open world PvE scenes. They also wanted to increase the rewards of the original PvE dungeons. Currently everyone does the Fractal since it’s clearly the best reward for your time. While ArenaNet has stated that they wanted to balance things out, they obviously can’t make things too balanced. If they did that, then people would start to ignore the Fractals and would just grind the Cursed Shore zone again (or the new Southern Cove zone). So with this in mind, it’s kind of hard to predict just how ArenaNet is going to “balance” things.

To sum things up, it’s kind of impossible to know where the game will be in 6 months. Within the past few weeks, ArenaNet has made a noticeable shift from their original game trends. I honestly have no clear idea about where GW2 is going and don’t know what I’ll find in 3 or 6 months. The Reddit AMA really did nothing to clarify ArenaNet’s long term vision. Nor did it answer things in a way that restored my faith about knowing what GW2 wanted to be.

How’s that a troll? I absolutely LOVE vertical progression and I mean every word I say. Is it wrong for me to hope these trolls get the point and go back to gw1?

It’s about as “right” as people telling everyone who LOVE verticle progression to go back to WoW. ArenaNet gave the impression of one thing, then did another. Were the Player Base #1 people correct since they bought into the most consistent message of ArenaNet, which was about Horizontal progression? Or were the Player Base #2 people correct for hanging in there and eventually getting the Vertical progression that they desired, which didn’t really exist at the game’s launch?

The end result is that we’re all at each other’s throats. ArenaNet’s wishy washy responses in the Reddit AMA about trying to find somewhere in between Vertical and Horizontal progression really didn’t help things. While people may be hacked off at ArenaNet for not making a clear and consistent stance on things, let’s try to not tear into our fellow players and make pseudo-personal attacks.

Back on topic — even long-standing games that fully embody the so-called “vertical progression” system have their system designed so that new players can join the game and catch up from level 1.

Well honestly asking people to leave and go away and so forth hurts the game due to it being a non subscription game, wow, rift had the subscriptions to carry them thru times of drama now you have a company relying on a mood to buy gems or not after all a person could easily pay the subscription to another game and play this game off and on and wait for a change that makes them want to invest here So wether its trolling or not who cares do what makes you happy

Depends on how the content rolls out. If we take the recent patch as the way things are going then dont leave because the grind to get back up will be impossible. Also throwing away 10% diff (whiteside said as much) would have implications in WvW.

Now If you hate to grind and dont like dungeons then why are you still here?

Wait and see is the best I can answer because frankly right now this game is in bad shape and needs a direction to run. See what Dec rolls out as and judge from there.

Besides if you cant keep up gear wise there is always the forum game that alone is worth 60 bucks. I learned that lesson in TOR

I am not in game myself I am waiting to see what happens because PR means little to me. I prefer action and implementation which also means they arent seeing money from me either which isnt healthy for a company.

Since GW2 is aiming towards becoming more of a gear grinder, I’m not sure I’d recommend it. If this were GW1 I’d say “yea, go for it!”. I left GW1 for almost 2 years straight, came back and hopped right into the newest content. But GW2? 6 months might be enough time for them to release the full ascended set and possibly some forms of gear check (inspect option, addons, etc) to allow players to see if you have the set or not. If that’s the case, you’ll be WAY behind on the gear grind and need to focus on catching up in that first.

I’d keep playing so you can make sure to keep up with the gear as it comes out to avoid getting behind.
