If I pre order the delux can I upgrade to the ultimate using gems? Or is it possible to even upgrade to the ultimate if I only order the delux?

If it is like HoT was, which I’m almost certain it is, there will be no option to upgrade to Ultimate if you by Standard or Deluxe.

The only difference between Deluxe and Ultimate is 4000 gems.

You won’t be able to upgrade to Ultimate using gems. The only thing Ultimate does is give you gems, so it would be a silly thing.

imo ultimate is definitely the best option to go IF you can afford. that 4k gem is a big offer like during HoT.

Ultimate is the best offer IMO. 4000 gems for $20 is pretty great.

I believe the difference is actually:

Deluxe: identity repair + character slot + perma pass = around 35$ so you would be paying 20$ for the game

Ultimate: (deluxepack = 35$) + (4000 gems = around 55$) = 90$

So buying the ultimate pack is like buying gems without paying for the expansion.

Except there’s nothing in the deluxe for me. If I were at a different point in my GW2 career the deluxe would be nice, but there’s nothing useful in there for players who have been around a while.

As it said when you bought it the gems take up to 72 hours to be added to your account.

This is because when they first did this promotion with HoT they had a problem with people using stolen cards to buy the Ultimate Edition, converting the gems to gold and selling the gold or transferring it to other accounts before the purchase was validated (or rather rejected) by the bank.

This way they can do the check first.

Deluxe: identity repair + character slot + perma pass = around 35$ so you would be paying 20$ for the game

Ultimate: (deluxepack = 35$) + (4000 gems = around 55$) = 90$

So buying the ultimate pack is like buying gems without paying for the expansion.

I think there’s a few different ways to interpret it, depending on which parts of the package interest you.

The way I see it buying the Ultimate Edition for £70 gets me 4000 gems at normal price (£42.50) and then the remaining £27.50 is what I’m paying for the expansion.

Since the alternative is to pay £26 for the expansion and I was literally just thinking the other day that I’d like one of those Royal Terrace type areas in the expansion zone I’ll buy that one, which would normally cost 1000 gems or £10.60 the Ultimate Edition looks like a pretty good deal.

But this only works because I buy gems with real money anyway, so sooner or later I’d spend that £42.50 either way and because I can trust myself not to spend it all in one go and then buy more gems for the stuff I’d normally get.

That is subjective. I’ve been here since beta and I can find a use for all of the things in the deluxe.

I like alts so the new character slot and 80 boost are great for me.

It will be fun to have the new exclusive convenience area in the Crystal Desert/Elona.

I’m pretty sure I will like the new Spearmarshall Oufit since I loved everything about he
Sunspears in GW1

And for an extra $20, I can get 4000 gems in the Ultimate. That is great for me.

I have to admit if it wasn’t for the Lily of the Elon Permanent Pass I don’t know I’d be considering either the Deluxe or the Ultimate.

I won’t say no to another character slot or max level boost but I don’t need them since 9 permanent characters – one of each profession – is ideal for me and I have a 10th slot for extras, and I actually like levelling them naturally. I’ll probably use the boost on an existing character for the items. The total-makeover kit I’ll probably find a use for and I may use the outfit.

The one I wish I could swap out is the name change contract. I spent a lot of time thinking up names for my characters and I’d never want to change them. Well, maybe in the highly unlikely event that whoever beat me to the name Xixxi deletes them I might change Xexxi to that, since it was my original idea. But after 4 years I’ve gotten used to that.

I’ll hold onto that name change. I don’t have any immediate reason to change anyone, but my male human ele was made to a guildie’s specs to be the villain in her plot line and whenever he finally gets his comeuppance I’ll be remaking him. It’ll be handy to have that available … even though it’s a bank slot that will be filled a very long time due to most of the players of the plot leaving the game Meanwhile I’ve commandeered him for a villain in other plot lines, just have to leave him in position for the main story.

But I digress.

I’m looking forward to the Lily Pass. I hope the riverboat is awesome as a place to hang out.
