Level scaling is one of the things I like most about this game. I love being able to go anywhere in the world and have it still feel relevant. Going around one shotting everything gets boring fast.

Put me in the ‘downscaling is one of the best features’ column. I can’t wait to be able to help out friends when they buy this game without my having to make a brand new character.

I never go to low level areas so I really don’t care.

Autoscaling is a nice feature.

I’m in a guild that does a lot of low-level stuff. I notice for those events I don’t want to come on either of my mains, even tho there is the auto-down-level, cuz it’s not materially rewarding, and there’s the costs of round-trip travel. Even the harvesting tools, somehow soft wood wears out my axe just as fast as ancient. That part of it is a drag.

Switch out your axe for an iron axe instead of an ancient. It’s one gather = one axe, I believe.

Level scaling is a great mechanic. I would hate to see them do away with it. Not that I think it will ever happen. Just saying.

I also love the scaling zones but then think they urinate on the idea by not making at least most of the zones have dynamic events that are equally challenging with karma rewards that scale to level.

Any zones with undead, downscaling is just annoying. Works everywhere else.
However, they need to address the issue of loot scaling and travel expenses. They want max level characters to come to the lower zones yet don’t reward the properly and force them to outrageous sums of money to get around.

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

Personally I love the downscaling. If I go back to help a friend, its still somewhat of a challenge and I’m not just blowing through all mobs therefore ruining the experience for my friend.

Not to mention the fact that it makes the lower areas still fun. Pwning everything up is fun for about 3 minutes.

I like it because I play with friends who have very different amounts of play time/altitis, so its nice to be able to join together a level 15, level 32, and a level 51 in one group and have everyone contribute to the fight. In fact it would be nice if there was upscaling as well, so the guy with the level 51 doesn’t always have to come to the lower zone or instance to play, the lowbies could join him if everyone is willing to accept the reduced ability of the lowbie to contribute (fewer skills, etc.).

so you basically want to have all areas but frostgorge and orr removed from being somewhat reasonably playable by high level characters for the sake of feeling superpowerful? That seems like a very bad tradeoff and a very silly idea to me.

OP, are we playing the same game?

I only have level 40-something toons and I steamroll lower level content even with downscaling.

I think it’s kind of cool and yet kind of not. Feels odd if you have good armor
which you’ve been working towards the whole game and then suddenly it’s not
worth as much ^^. But I see some valid arguments and I suppose that even if the
system in the end were a bad one, it still does a lot of good. Except for perhaps making
many areas desolate, but I guess that’s another issue.

There’s really very little reason to go into lower level zones. EVE online probably does the best job at spreading folks around, but they have a much different system that’s really economy driven.

i skipped a few bandit places and tucked away areas because i was not prepared or at level. now that i am level 80, i seem to have forgotten them all, and would possible like to go back and do those areas with a vengeance.

if it was gone i sure would.

Then I wouldn’t be able to group with my lower level friends.

Wanna know the only reason to go back aside from 100%? To group with lower level friends.

there’s no need for levels in this game.
