If an MMO gave you the best gear at level 1...
The question is misleading.
Sure if you are going to pvp you will get some gear so that you can go to the mists and do so. But…
The gear that you get to do pvp you cannot use in pve. Thus you still have to level your toon in order to get the best gear in the game.
To me, getting gear most other players dont have, or getting it first, is a motivation.
If everyone gets it easy, its kinda meh
GW2 is about how your gear looks though. All the sexy, aesthetically pleasing gear is for the higher levels and it’s all either very expensive or very hard to obtain/craft.

This argument is so bad, and i see it again and again with games that involve leveling and progression.
you can spend 100 hours doing something, then reflect and realize “wow what a waste of effin time”

Would you play it?
Yes: You will love GW2
No: You will be disappointed with GW2Guild Wars 2 is not about gear. period.
So…what this game is about? There is no WvW ladder that you can check, there is no guild ladder, there is no pve progress ladder…so…um…
Difference is, leveling up in GW2 you get to experience that gear progression still.
For some reason it’s not giving me the option of quoting but this is for DrunkBatman. All video games, be it a MMO or any other genre, are nothing but things to waste your time with. Unless you are one of the few people who actually get paid to play video games, guess gold sellers fall into this category oddly, you accomplish absolutely nothing by playing with pixels.

FUN.
This game was designed more for the experience of exploring and playing then more of a standard loot driven game. I like it alot but also miss some of the things other games had too.
To me MMORPGs is all about the gear. We crawl from the pits of low level worthlessness and dedicate hundreds of hours collecting money and various drops to collect high level gear in hopes to make ourselves feel special amongst our peers. Then at the end we will change the looks of that said gear after realizing that tens of thousands of other players have the same gear, including your close friend Bryan who copied you right down to the pauldrons.
In all seriousness I play for the gear, but not so much about collecting that top tier goodies. It’s more like mixing and matching armor styles to create something interesting. So yes, I would keep playing this game even if I was given the best clothing at level 1.

Doesn’t give you the best gear at level 1 though.
Yes and No.
If “best” is only in looks of the gear, then yes I would continue playing and enjoy the game’s content even more. In fact, if my character looks like the hero, looks like he/she belongs within the game world, then I find myself often more forgiving of a lot of bugs and short comings within a game.
If “best” means in stats, then not as much. Without the increasing of growth in power, there’s not much to do after the content is done… unless the Devs are on spot for constant releases.
I look at Champions Online (or even Star Trek Online) as a really good example of what I am talking about here. Create the character exactly as I want them to look at level 1. As I level up and see more content, I gain access to addition “looks” and continue to get drops which increase the power of my character. Both of these games have very little content; yet, they are a lot of fun to play.
