.. in WvW nor guest on those servers: why can’t we create new chars there, if we want to play with friends from overseas, but not abandon our home server?

If I understand it correctly the servers are divided into two data centres, one of which is in North America (Seattle I’m guessing) and the other is in Europe (Germany I think).

Your account is saved onto the data centre your server uses. To have characters in both regions you’d have to have a copy of your account saved to each and they’d have to keep synching them. For players to be happy they’d probably have to do it every couple of minutes.

That’s a lot of data to keep sending back and forth and a lot of extra work for Anet for a relatively small benefit.

Alright, so why isn’t there simply an option to connect to the NA/EU servers in the game launcher, without carrying over the data from the other server? There’s really no need to copy data to both servers all the time if both are handled seperately.

All your data would still need to be copied to the other data center upon first connecting to it, and then back to your home server’s data center when you log off.

which is the functional equivalent of transferring there and then transferring back.
