… to the surface of Tyria, would they be welcomed back by both the playable and non-playable races or would they instead be scorned by them? How well would the Dwarves integrate back onto the surface world after a 250-year absence?

Furthermore, would the Dwarves then become a playable race?

Weird thing is, I only saw that thread after I started this one.

Though admittedly, I do think that the recent The Hobbit movie is what made me remember again that the Dwarves were a large part of GW1 and then begin wondering about their possible return to GW2.

So anyway, would the Dwarves be welcomed back and how well would they integrate back into the world?

Give them all sunglasses and lots of dairy products, rich in vitamin D.

And booze. Lots of booze. Like in ‘The Hangover’.

The Dwarves turned to stone during the Rite of the Dwarf and are now fighting Primordius and his minions to the death. They aren’t coming back, at least not in the way you want them to.

There is absolutely 0 chance of them becoming a playable race…

Dwarves are boring. From a stand point of having a new and more interesting race as far a visuals, armor and so forth, I think Dwarves would be, well, lame. We already have humans, and over sized humans (Norn), so adding a smaller pudgy human type model would be kind of boring. I’d rather see some less traditional model for a new race.

This is extremely true. Not to mention Dwarves are ugly and it was implied in GW1 that female dwarves look identical to males, beards and all…
Tengu are a far more likely, and far more desirable, candidate.

We are unlikely to see a less traditional race outside of a major expansion. The problem is that all the armor sets need to be completely redone for something that isn’t a standard human form. It already takes 2-3 months for them to build a new armor set for the current races. Redoing all the current armor for a non-standard race would take tremendous effort.

They already simplified things so that charr and asura use the same model for male and female now to cut down on their work. I highly doubt they will spend the money/time to make more work for themselves.

If it isn’t a reskinned human it isn’t going to happen.

Tengu already use the same model as Charr – which is why I’m pretty sure they’re the most likely race.

Dwarves would require a lot more reworking than simply shrinking human models and adapting the Asuran models would be no easy feat either.

Especially interesting would be how the Dwarves would react to, and how they’d be met by, the GW2 races that they likely have never met before such as the Quaggan and the Skritt.
