If the mini was Tybalt rather than Jennah?
I think people are complaining more more about the fact that they got multiple Jennah’s instead of different minis for each character. I don’t think Jennah’s popularity has anything to do with it; she’s integral to the story and is a character a lot of people identify with because human is a very popular race.
I think it would have been better if we got minis unique to the race or order we chose so we could have multiple unique minis for each character.
That being said, I love the idea of a mini Tybalt.
Claw island 2012, never forget.
Yeah, I actually thought the multiple versions even made sense with Tybalt. I’d happily have a Tybalt mini on more than one character. Obviously the issue is more complicated that JUST who the mini was, I just thought that maybe people would feel differently if it hadn’t been Jennah in the box.
People are disappointed because they didn’t stick to the same system they used in GW1, and used something far less interesting/fun.
Jennah is fine. It just means the mini is super common. Tybalt should be a bit more valuable.
Now if there was a random chance of a Trahearne mini… I can understand the complaints. I would be mad myself.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Gw1’s Anniversary gifting wasn’t broken. It didn’t need to be “fixed”.
Personally I’d rather get Trehearne than Jennah.
Even Twilight is a better love story than Logan & Jennah
to me any multiple mini would be a terrible idea but if you give us multiple make it so we can mystic forge and get something even if it is account bound just something different. i like minis but only one not multiples. people are saying its because you cant sell them and if you could they would be ultra cheap almost worthless to me its just not wanting multiples of them. one jenna would be fine one tybalt(doesnt look like tybalt spelled right to me) would be fine but i can only have one mini out at a time. even a mini treahearne wouldnt bother me if it was one. actually i might be happier if they gave one present per account instead of the multiple
For the amount of flak they’ve been getting over RNG items I can see why they’d avoid RNG in this instance. I’m just hoping they let us mystic forge excess minis some day.
I doubt very much that changing which mini was included would make that much of a difference.
11 Queen Jennas, no one else thinks this is just stupidly cheap?..Tybalts would make no difference.

So, simple question. Would you have felt different about the birthday present if the mini had been Tybalt rather than Jennah? Has this whole affair stemmed not from lack of appreciation, but simply from Anet overestimating the popularity (or perhaps even underestimating the unpopularity) of one of its characters?
The problem with making the mini Tybalt is that he was only an important character in 1/3 of the Order storylines. For quite a few people, he was not our mentor, so a mini of him would seem kind of random. At least Jennah is actually tied to current events with the jubilee.
I’m pretty indifferent about the whole birthday mini situation, but at least the Jennah mini has a basis in context. I’m fine with things as they are. But then again, I don’t really care about minis regardless of what they’re of.

Multiple Tybalts would have been no better than multiple Jennahs’.
Maybe Tybalt still lives… who knows.. Its painfully obvious that we lovr that Char
Eh, I preferred Sieran (it is pretty funny to look at the disparity between the wiki entries when a lot of the content is available for both, e.g. the avenging thing).

Fyi, I don’t know of any ‘Tybalt’.
The problem with the mini isn’t the character. It’s that it isn’t randomly selected from a pool of year-one minis as was done in GW1. There’s no anticipation of surprise. Another problem is that it isn’t tradable and EVERY character on your account will receive one. It’s redundant, insulting and completely worthless.

With how much people cry about RNG I think they did good on the presents. I prefer GW1 style but I also like to see people cry about not getting what they want from RNG, then to have an RNG element removed then cry because it still isn’t what they want. Everyone wants something and that something is always different and RNG is easy to complain about and blame but take that RNG away and if people don’t get exactly what they want they’ll still rip a new one in whoever they feel was to blame. Does this make RNG good? No. But it’s still funny to watch.
I was hoping for a Largos mini, they are by far the most underrated race in the game.
I don’t think Tybs would really be the best choice for a birthday gift, since as others have mentioned, some people don’t have a connection to him. Just as Jennah was (IMO) an odd choice since some don’t care about her. I think it would’ve been better to tie those minis to more appropriate events – the Jennah one could’ve been a reward for one of the latest living story achievements, and a mini of your Order mentor could be a reward for finishing the Claw Island quest.
For the birthday gift, I’d rather have the GW1 style random mini so there’s a little surprise, although perhaps keep them all the same rarity and tradeable so nobody feels cheated or stuck with something they don’t want.
Should have been a choice of PS Characters;
Jennah
Tybalt
Seiran
Forgal
Anise
Riel Darkwater
Wynnet Fairhaired
….. you get my point. ..
I’m usually typing on my phone
While a Jennah mini is fine by me, 10 of them is going to be kind of silly.

I gotta be honest… minis of people in general freak me out. I don’t know why. I like minis that are creatures/animals/etc., but not tiny versions of sentient characters. Forgal is my favourite character, but the idea of a mini of him creeps me out.
I’m probably just a weirdo.
The presents were a joke. Here, have a Queen Jennah MINI, which nobody cares about because it is a mini(Guild Wars 1 minis were so cool, good and you felt special having a unique mini). Also, Queen Jennah. The most boring, monotonous character in game. I am personally sick of her face.
As others have said, I think that GW1 RNG would have been a bad idea. Not because it was a bad idea in GW1 (it sounds awesome), but because there is so much bad feeling towards RNG in GW2 built up that it would have been received terribly.
That said, it is a good point that many players never met Tybalt So perhaps a present of your order leader would have been cool (randomised if you never did story).
My point wasn’t so much to make a serious suggestion, but more to draw attention to the fact that the present wasn’t so much cheap, but that the fanbase don’t seem to care about Jennah in the way that we are meant/thought to.
RNG is complicated in Guild Wars 2. If you have to pay Gems for RNG, people rage. If you get it for free people wont rage as much. Also, there are so many things involving RNG in-game people do not realise it. The whole loot system is based off RNG. Unidentified Dyes, Loot bags, Gear boxes, money pouches, etc.
I’d rather have a Sieran mini.

Me too, played both stories, liked her way more.

It’s lose/lose for a developer to try to please the masses. They cry for months about RNg and to take it out of the game………then cry when they don’t get RNG presents and say how RNG would have been better. Is it any wonder games end up a mess? :P
Then I’d have 7 mini Tybalts. Should have been a variety.
I like LumAnth’s idea of a selection of personal story minis. We got our Vigil/Priory/Order leaders & mentors, as well as other characters encountered like Teyo, Demmi Beetlestone, Trahearne….

Funny how they subjectively remove RNG when it suits them, then go right ahead and add pack 2 as a RNG cash shop set at the very same time, yes funny indeed..
