If there was a zombie apocalypse IRL
Hmm, I think it’d depend on the kind of zombies they were.
If they were the infectious bitey kind then I’d probably pick guardian for myself for the good access to aegis and group aegis support, hoping it’d be enough to protect me and my family (though I’d probably find myself an intolerable bore in the process haha!).
If they weren’t the infectious kind then, hmm.
Not elementalist because, while fun, I imagine there’d be a lot of collateral property damage to their skills irl.
Not mesmer because, while they have the funkiest skills, the undead don’t have minds to trick.
Not necromancer because I imagine the smell would be dire.
Ranger is a definite contender, especially if their “irl” powers extended to general animal aid/communication, and the celestial druid aspect is fantastic, but that would be a lot of extra mouths to feed in an apocalypse scenario.
I think I’d actually pick revenant. Channeling the powers of ancient heroes, particularly if they were my legends I was communicating with rather than in-game ones, would just be too cool. I feel like I’d have the flexibility of powers to deal with any scenario, the collective knowledge to put it to good use, it’d come with a slew of new language skills, and I’d always have someone to discuss options with.
Though it might make sleeping difficult if they don’t know how to zip it…
Prolly ranger or necro strong contenders for me. I think they’d keep me safest.
Ghost thief. Never dies and can assassinate survivors for their loot easy.
Mesmer no contest
Not Mesmer the class but Mesmer in the game meaning I’m not held to target an enemy to summon clones. Zombies are dumb so a couple clones running around and the zombies will go after them and I could shatter to destroy the zombies.
Phantasms too along with stealth, teleport, protection, buffs, and even gw1 era skills like illusionary weapon meaning illusionary gun should be possible too. Means Mesmers would be king of the zombie apocalypse regarding zombies, looting, and using mind tricks to bend other survivors to your will.
Also speaking of zombies why don’t we have a zombie legendary weapon the other dragons have legends that tie to their elements so why not Zhatian?

The real question is; are we subjected to cooldowns? Because then it would be thief, spam shadow refuge. Or mesmer and lololololspam blink
Grand Warden of I Crit Under Pressure.
message me for an invite ^_^
Ranger is my favourite profession in-game but I was thinking guardian – heavy armour, aegis, shield and crushing or slashing weapons and lots and lots of fire damage which is effective against most kinds of zombies. Plus they have some teleport skills.
Ranger on the other hand is limited to arrows which usually have limited effect against zombies or close-combat with medium armour which leaves you more exposed to bites. Of course they have lots of condition clearing skills, but given the choice I’d rather not get bitten at all and I don’t think I’m anywhere near agile enough to pull that off in real life (or in game actually).
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
For Sylvari zombies the class doesn’t matter because I have a big bottle of Glyphosate.
Charr zombies → big can Whiskas
Human/Norn zombies → facebook account
Asuran zombies → no chance (for me)
Fight the queens
Engineer. Because Flamethrower. (And bombs)
ANet may give it to you.
Underwater mallyx revenant: This is the only profession that could prevent zombie to touch me.
Or
Thief because thief would be op against zombie.
Ranger AKA Daryl Dixon
Shame we don’t have crossbows in-game.

Sylvari – Elementalist – Auramancer
Fire breathing, condition cleansing, rapid healing, tanky, zombie immune, cabbage man of the pale tree. Sign me up.
Engineer.
Zombies would have a hard time biting through leather armor, which would be easier to move in than heavy.
Guns. Turrets.
The ability, conceptually, to keep machines running (without fuel).
So, immune to being bitten, guns, automated weapon turrets, and cars.
Easy pick IMO.
Elementalist, cause flexibility and every group wants you around
Well, odds are I’d be the necromancer who “accidentally” started the whole zombie apocalypse to begin with, so . . .
Dragonhunter or burn guard, heals and cleanses from zombie condition bites, traps to hold and kill them with, access to fire to kill them with, and my bow to pluck away at them from a rooftop.
North Keep: One of the village residents will now flee if their home is destroyed.
“Game over man, Game Over!” – RIP Bill
Necromancer: “Rise, my minions. Rise!”
easy, warrior:
when I get bitten: Shake it Off
when i get surrounded: Stomp
Spin attack through big groups.
I can literally see now downside to being a warrior during the zombie apocalypse (given we’re talking about a real world scenario, and not a numbers game)

I’d be a total noobscrub and Juggernaut Flamethrower a zombie apocalypse. Wouldn’t be all that different from Orr, really. :P

I’d go with a mesmer.
Zombie herd approaches
Drop wells, stealth up with decoy and blink away
Engineer.

having second thoughts on a light class now, I don’t want to run around in a robe, unless I can improvise with a bathrobe, and nothing else underneath, the freedom and comfort of survival.

Duct tape over the cloth of a robe would get your light armor to nigh zombie bite-proof.
But improvising with duct tape really does sound like an engineer skill…
Engineer is the only reasonable choice.
You can plow zombies with your flamethrower, bombs and granades.
You can set up defense turrets and go to sleep when you are tired. You can use and understand/repair all technology left over…
Reaper runed Reaper necro with deathly chill spamming frost gun’s chill spray thrower all day, just like my main’s doing right now
Asura Engineer. Because MatPat is absolutly right: Brain > Braindead.

That’s my only and most persistent gripe with the class… no duct tape skill.
btt: Engineer, cause engineer IRL. With endless supplies of scrap parts lying around everywhere, there should be absolute nothing that can’t be crafted. Think about the car from army of darkness

Well yea, be a master of the undead and you control the zombies too
….. And Elementalist.

I’d go for Mesmer too….. think you’re about to bite me zombie? Nope, here’s my decoy clone instead. Besides, I’d be able to help out my friends with all the emergency portals out of bad places
I wouldn’t think a mesmer phantasms/clones wouldn’t work against the undead. Granted, I can’t base my argument scientifically because there is no such things as undead zombies, but I could speculate that an undead creature would be immune to mind tricks. You gotta be alive, have fear, insecurities, sense pain etc for a mesmer to excersice its magic. They would go straight at you because you are the only thing they can sense. MEsmer, IMHO, would be doomed in this scenario.
The best would be probably elementalists, because of its versatility. You would be able to slow hordes of zombies, knock them down, burn them, obliterate them with meteor shower, heal your allies, give your allies superspeed in case you need to flee, summon a completely immune creature (earth golem) against the zombies’ scratches and bites, save an ally from the brink of death (rebound), bring an ally that has been pinned down by a zombie horde (air res glyph) to your locationand even give your allies a little bit of your destructive power via conjured weapons all of this at range, without even needing to come close to a zombie.
A zombie apoc would be a walk in the park for an ele.
Second best would be engineer for obvious reasons.
Necro doesn’t have a “convert undead” type of skill in the game, so he would not be able to do much to a zombie. They cannot bleed, they cannot be poisoned, they cannot be feared as they do not feel fear, agony would do nothing as they don’t feel pain. Crippling and chilling them would be the only way to defent himself, or with dhuumfire. His minions would be destroyed in a matter of seconds by a zombie horde. He would also gain no life force cause they are dead, no life force there. A power necro would have a way better chance, but he would have a hard time absorbing life force?
Ranger would be amazing too in the sense that he’s godly with a bow and knows how to survive, but again, his pet would be consumed, melee ones at least, devourers and spiders, ironically, would seem to be the best here or perhaps fire drakes . He would be very valuable when switching to druid tho.
You would assume that any profession would have limited resources in a real life scenario. Rangers would run out of ammo, engies would have to constantly be on the look for fuel, gunpowder, chemicals for elixirs, and melee classes would be at risk of placing themselves close to the horde. Thief could hide him and allies, but the problem would still be there (zombies). Ele just uses his/her natural innate power, I guess he could get tired but yeah.

Illusions in Guild Wars work a bit different than in most other games, where a person can ‘disbelieve’ illusions to have them not work. In Guild Wars, illusions work to fool the world itself basically. If an illusion looks like a sword it works like one, regardless of if people know it is illusion or not. So illusions would work just fine on mindless undead.
rev zerk ham would wreck hordes…
LOL, you guys need to read some Max Brooks.
Zombies chasing you + flamethrower = flaming zombies chasing you.
Ranger = arrow through the head for the win.

I stand corrected, you are actually right, the official description says they manipulate reality, which would really give them an edge. Ha, that would be a dream team, Mesmer distracts the horde and balls it up with clones while Elementalist comfortable casts meteor shower.
I think you’d want something with as much coverage from bites as possible. Some weapon like a mace for smashing in skulls. Or, thinking of the Zombie Survival Guide, maybe an Engineer to make turrets with head shots, something to penetrate the skull and bounce small projectiles around inside the skull to ensure brain puree kills.
Necro would have the least problems here IMO. The problem here is, can necros be undead or vampire? According to their traits and trinkets that would be a yes. If so they are a shoe in since zombies bites would have no permanent effect on them and would ignore them since they aren’t living. Second Necros create more minions by killing enemies in game so numbers wouldn’t be a problem as soon your minions would outnumber the zombies by the more you kill the more minions you get. And with shroud there would be nothing they could do to attack you.
Engineer would run out of ammo and well that’d be all she wrote. I mean if we’re talking about RL then they don’t have unlimited ammo and they’d have to recharge turrets. Leather armor is good, but killing stuff with hammers is going to be super tiring and short lived. Go ahead and swing one I dare you.
Elemental wouldn’t have too hard a time as long as the Zombies don’t have life spans like the White Mantle in Doric. Last time I was in an Orr zone I was able to burn down the undead fast.
Warriors, Guardians, Rangers, and Theifs would all have to keep fighting to a minimum to survive for any length of time. Fighting is tiring even tip top fighters can only sustain short bursts of fighting.
Revenant and Mesmer, well I haven’t played them in a long time so I can’t say where they’d fall in.
Why does everybody want a flamethrower? That only results in burning zombies… Which IMO is twice as bad.
I’d be a necromancer obviously. Maybe the zombies are just minions, and I can pop Verata’s Aura to take control of them. No more zombie problems. And when I get bored of them, I just make them walk down a cliff.
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
