Henchmen, or variation of hero units using the appearance of your alternate characters. Obviously limited in some capacity, such as only having up to two hero units in a party with no real players, and give them the ability to self-resurrect after 15 seconds.

1. How about the random arena style pick up play? The hot join / hot swap system kinda makes me feel … bleh … about any sense of teamwork. I mean largely for mini-games like dragon ball, haven’t really done spvp. Would be nice to not get stuck waiting 15 minutes for the win I was getting because all the opposition left!

2. Skills, I miss the variety and ability to see exactly what my opponent was doing… Also miss being prohibited from using skills if the target is out of range, though I can almost appreciate that one as a user skill thing, idk.

3. 8 man parties, 5 is too kitty cat small, and annoyingly an odd number. I have more friends than that.

Edit: I just realized you asked for 1 and I gave 3 … sue me =P

GW1 had Mhenlo and friends. GW2 has no such thing.
What they represent: characters that have always been around(or with you) and are your friends, fighting along your side in every map.

What i wanted from GW2 was dynamic events being led in every area by Mhenlo.
For example:
Mhenlo and friends are defending Nebo Terrace in Gendarran Fields.
Meanwhile,
Mhenlo and his friends are making preparations to assault the Shatterer in Blazeridge Steppes.
Note: I dont really mean Mhenlo(long since dead), I mean a group of NPCs(since there are no henchmen) that would be actively doing/starting events in every map, the same NPCs being in every map.

What the developers didnt quite get right is the events barely have any importance. Instead of the above examples where Mhenlo leads the events, what we got is
Defend group X from enemy Y until X reaches place Z.
Group A is preparing an assault on place B.

Group A has absolutely no relation with group X. Who cares about helping group X and get 1 silver(reward) when you will never see group X again in another map?
It has no significance except for us being goody-two-shoes helping complete strangers for 1silver.

Now, if group A was Mhenlo and friends and traveled the whole map helping out at a chain of events in every map, you would see some cohesion in the events.

Leadership is important in the world. The simple name of a popular/important figure makes the difference. If unknown person X opened a foundation to help against a disease, “most” donations to the foundation will be from people who have been affected by that disease in some way. If the Pope opened the same foundation, it would be much more successful.

Even the story fails hard to appeal to the player. Let’s take as example Crusader Hiroki if you chose the Vigil storyline. What happens to her after the missions that involves her? She just goes away and never ever talks to you again after thanking you. Very disappointing. Same for Almorra Soulkeeper, once you become 2nd-in-command and the Pact is formed, she's GONE. No consistency. All we got from the story is that glory usurper Trahearne...

In some way, they tried to do that by making the events involve
the Vigil/Priory as an association or the Pact as a whole, but all the NPCs you see in the events are still complete strangers, VigilCrusaderA, PactMemberB.... Helping somebody does not have the same feel as helping an association.

tl;dr
I could care less about an event involving helping stranger X that i will not see in any other map ever again other than during that specific event in area B.
I would care more about many chains of events involving helping Mhenlo in areas A, B, C, D and E.

P.S: last patch notes they event went ahead and
“Phill the Fisher has grown tired of being attacked by drakes and is now retired. Other lesser-skilled fishermen have moved in to take his spot.”
are now killing random stranger fishermen instead.

Skill capping. It was a much better system than skill challenges and gave bosses some personality. You were fighting Orggu the Bulky with his Juggernaut elite, not some random Champion Troll.

Roaming groups of enemies on set paths that overlap etc, not one enemy here or one enemy there, but real mobs, the type where if you get bogged in combat with one mob and aggro the other you wiped.

possibly warband members,new npcs of varying races even the lesser ones to act as mercenaries,ex seraph,norn adventurers,sylvari on a wyld hunt or a krewe member,theres endless possiblities really for the henchmen introduction in the game,in open world you could only use one that has the same mechanics as the npcs that follow you in the personal story,and even tho the mechanisc might be harder to apply in dungeons,its not impossible,it would be a huge +1 for the game imho

I’d bring over the drop/reward system. Gold items were the highest tier and dropped infrequently, but they did drop. The frequency increased in hard mode. Dungeon end chests, when dungeons were added, dropped two of them, along with a rare crafting material. These were items you might actually use, not second-best-tier stuff you salvage for a chance at an ecto like in GW2.

Anyways, I never really played GW1, but i did like how you had more skill options everytime i watched a video or something. Im currently playing ele since it has the most access to skills in the game, but it prevents me from playing anything else, as much as i would like. Many classes get boring since 1 weapon is the damage dealer the other one is usually just a buffer or something for a very niche job. AKA insert weapon of choice here/focus mesmer for PvE and WvW, or weapon/staff guardian, or weapon/horn ranger…

The possibility to really play how I wanted. I remember my monk using axe whit+20% enchanted duration an focus. And my elementalist using destroyer scythe whit +1 fire whit 20%.

A real minion master necro, the 55hp builds, Eco SS necro, splinter ranger/ritualit build. Too many stuff that I will really miss, 1 year in gw1 is like 3 years in gw2.

We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that.

There are issues with that though. GW1 let you travel between Outposts for free. GW2 has too many WP’s for that to be a good thing.
But I think that travelling to the 6 major cities should definitely be free.
