Its been decided, Ive gone crazy.

I cannot find a class in this game that really resonates with me.

In UO, I played a thief until necromancers came out.
In EQ, I played a rogue.
In DAoC, I played a scout.
In AO, I played a fixer.
In ToR, I played sniper.
In GW, I played a ranger.

I love the play the misdirection class. The class that you have to use brains to play. I want to sneak around and set up my kill.

I just cant get behind the Thief though. I love how the stealth mechanic works, but I cannot get past how BORING the abilities are. I love backstabbing, but it feels like thats all I do… NO DEPTH. I wish I could customize my bar like in gw1.

I seem to find no real excitement in most of the classes… and that is a shame.. I like the game.

I feel ya man…the classes in this game just aren’t fun for many reasons.

You’ll get nothing like that, by the way. There is no “tactical” choice in this game.

For what its worth playing engineer past his second slot up to his third.
Throws christmass balls, Drops UAV packages on the floor uses his flamethrower to set entire areas ablaze.
Even though i played my engineer the least, the whole skillbar set is ridiciliously gigantic all coming with strategic input or just mopping around with a flamethrower. Nothing wrong with that, just set the players on fire whilst they wait for a Ascalon Crypt group. =>

I’m in a similar predicament. At first, I put it down to me being indecisive…yet after trying out every profession I just can’t seem to find my niche in this game.

Have you tried the Mesmer?

They’re the ultimate misdirection profession in GW2.

I tried Engie. I found myself throwing elixirs, but ultimately just spamming nades.

I did manage getting 3 classes to 80 though. Thief, Warrior, and Ranger.

Ranger is just too much of a mess for me to enjoy. That stupid pet really breaks it for me. Warrior decently fun, but again, same problem as the warrior. No depth. Yeah, I can crit someone with kill shot for double digits, but meh.

Edit: I tried mesmer. I didnt like the lack of any real AoE. I need to give it a better go around though.

Whenever someone says “I’m going crazy (or insane in your case)”, I always reply with “you can’t go where you already are.” Just kidding of course.

I’d second the suggestion to try mesmer. They have quite a few control abilities… especially if you want to WvW or PvP.

Yeah mesmers are, but i thought it was quite lacking. Elementalists are sort-of okay i suppose? you’re still rotating between your F skills can do some decent chaining get some combo fields up.Remarkably you still have plenty of times to decide it i suppose.
Im indeed playing a ranger, and turning on the tv whilst playing. =>

I think I know what you mean. The professions in this game lack combos and thier abilities are quite stale.

Take the Frost Mage from WoW as an example. You had to time your shatter combo’s for burst damage. The toolbox you had made juggling cooldowns a skill mastered by few. The mobility options allowed some professions “classes” to create very clever combos for positioning purposes.

The toolbox for the Elementalist I would say is the most fun of all other professions but, it doesn;t come remotely close to the Frost Mage in WoW. The Thief is very stale compared to the Rogue in WoW.

It’s sad though. I really like GW2 but, the professions are stale. We need more complex combo systems and faster weapon switching.

Well, yeah. they did up to a later latter. Where a repetitive cycle turned out supreme.
I remember just needing 3 buttons to reach the top chart, with a just 2 cooldowns rinsing it until the end of the raid.

It’s really hard to make something complex without removing the fun aspect.
If, you run with a good dungeon group you’d be pretty okay to kite something through a designated trap/bomb/trigger area.

It’s quite stale, but if you play with people you know there’s definitly possibilities to use advanced and more complex strategies.

I still place bombs with a whole army right behind me on my engineer. =p
been leveling all of the classes, find it hard to decide the right one aswell.

I remember back when i played WoW as a Paladin healer television on raid healing. Okay guis we have to move now. pops bubble ‘’whats he doing?’’ … ‘’No idea, who cares.’’
pressed the same buttons assigns lowest hp.
Especially in Cataclysm that was pretty easy with the spell changes.

I’m more than certain that every game will bore you at some point.
Atleast, that’s what i think.

But, with my job currently going pretty well.
Considering picking up 3 additional jobs.
Since working full – time with jsut one doesn’t seem to be a possibility for me in this time of need. =/

So for most of it every couple of hours that im able to log on im enjoying to the fullest. Just messing around with a class whenever i got an hour.

I quit wow, because i couln’t enjoy it anymore.
Nor would i have the time when i’d get a job. I know, a sub fee is like going to a cinema for the same price.
But it feels like a total waste when i can’t dedicate the hours into a game i pay for monthly.

And from that experience im receiving im also getting the feeling this game is more biased around casual play.
Which, totally fits me no doubt. Just not sure if it fits everyone.
Probably doesn’t have alot to do with classes, but it feels like that.

You know I spent a long time going through that as well. Hell I’m STILL slightly unsure which prof is my ultimate favorite.

I think it just has to do with the tiny pool of skills and how simple they are on top of Traits not doing nearly a good enough job at diversifying them or really changing your playstyle and making things more complex/interesting.

In the end I think I’m enjoying Necro the most. I do like attrition playstyles and necro has that as well as a bunch of control which I also like. But it’s still quite shallow overall. I would actually say condition build on necro is one of the most boring, just rotate cooldowns that stack bleeds in chunks then auto attack.

I was sure Mesmer was going to be my proffession of choice, but I don’t think the control aspect of it is nearly as fun as it is with Necro, and as you said, the lack of aoe for PvE was a turn off, I think it will be my 2nd to level up after Necro. The thing I love about Mesmer is how much it reminds me of Theurgists, the fire and forget pets I just LOVE it.

I would probably say give Mesmers another shot, they can play the sneaky/deception game with clones/stealth, especially in pvp and you actually get your “clone acting” down it can be quite funny. They actually take a bit of set up for a kill, greatsword burst sniping is incredibly satifsying, and again, Theurgists ’nuff said.

@Nhalx

IMO that has to do with content. WoW is a game where most of the time you could just stand there and do your optimum rotation. If the combo’s and rotations in this game were made more complex it doesn’t mean you’ll just sit there and quickly master your optimum rotation for dmg (although unforunately alot of encounters you can literally stand and auto atm), in dungeons here that won’t happen lol.

To OP:

Try a trap ranger. Or a mesmer

*edit: I do agree on wep cool downs. A lot of times I pop in/out of Mace/shield/Longbow or Mace/shield/Greatsword and I get hit with the weapon swap CD. All I wanted to do was swap to mace to stun then swap back to GS to DPS as fast as I can. It is really irritating in what otherwise would make a smooth combat flow.

I think it’s because the skill animations in this game… lacks a lot of fun mechanics that are (and) actually useful to fights. When a player thinks a class isn’t fun… most of the time it’s because the player doesn’t like the skills of that class (IE. I don’t like necros… not because they’re bad, but only because I don’t like their summons; not my style to role with undead).

I believe the problem for me are the skills themselves.

The skills themselves lack variety and customization. Thus making the game grow stale, very quickly.

Check of the link in my signature. I am working very hard to fix this issue.

Edit: I tried mesmer. I didnt like the lack of any real AoE. I need to give it a better go around though.

The best AoE for regular weapons is going to be 5 on staff . Once you get to elites its Time Warp all the way for AoE . Something to think about with the Mesmer though is that your closes are AoE when you shatter them and all clones are is shatter fodder.

With all of that said Why couldent they left the Mesmer ALONE!!! it was awesome the way it was in GW 1

Not really no, can’t really get a optimum rotation here as it is.
too many factors at play.

On guild wars 1 the whole hero thing when they removed the cap ruined the game so much.

i could get a 7 man hero party and literally do nothing through every hard mode content

But from my expierence with the dungeons in guild wars 2 you’d have to keep yourself alive as much as take advantage of any buff factor and fields.
Especially with ranged projectiles it’s better to dimble towards a field that would have a chance then not take advantage of it.

But there’s literally so much to do.

Sadly with the new job apps i’m not going to have enough time to fiddle with all of it. =d

I must admit having this same problem, enjoying my Guardian but want to play another class as an alt otherwise I’m just gonna tire of this game but I can’t say I particularly enjoy any of the other classes. Never had this problem in any other mmo normally I’m abit of an altaholic so it is abit worrying.

elementalist D/D is really fun in pve >.>// well somehow too squishy but fun…..but only if you can afford frequent repairs <.<

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
