Immobilize IS a control effect, and should be treated as such. Yes? No?

I was under the impression that control effects make you actually lose control of your character, which immobilize does not.

Therefore, it is not a control effect

Can you still not turn while immobilized? I loved revving up that 8s immobilize lock with Warrior.

Control effects can be conditions though – look at Fear.
- You lose control of your character when feared
- Removable by condition removal and stun breakers
- Only condition duration affects fear duration
- Fear is the only hard CC that properly stacks in duration, and cannot trigger “on interrupt” effects
- Properly registers as a condition, allowing it to be converted to Stability by certain skills

No, what I’m saying it that it should be treated as a control effect, because, in an action game, being unable to move is a loss of control of your character.

Not all of the immobilize thingies are conditions. Think of what those blasted spiders do to your char in TA. No condition showed, you are immobilized, no condition removal working to free you from that.

Here are some examples of why immobilize and some skills that apply immobilize are broken:

Did you get immobilized in midair?
Looks like you are going to be a vegetable until it wears off.

Did you try to dodge roll while immobilized?
Get ready to waste that endurance your tried to use 3 seconds ago as soon as it expires, while interrupting any action you are performing at that time.

Did you get hit with binding roots on the surface of the water?
Vegetable time again.

On land should be better, right?
Too bad your character can’t rotate to attack the roots.

Are you defending yourself and holding down a directional key so that you can move as soon as immobilize wears off?
Better not. Skills fail to activate when you are immobilized and holding down one or more directional keys.

Did you think that a stun break skill, with the icon of chains being broken, would remove immobilize, an effect that is symbolized as chains?
Think again.

If players in pvp can’t rotate when they are immobilized, enemies in pve should also be unable to rotate, right?
Nope. They can rotate while immobilized no problem.

Well if you are turned into a vegetable by immobilize, at least it will be over soon…
Except that this garbage stacks.

Can’t turn while immobilized and god forbid you get immobilized in air after jumping. You nolonger’ll have control over your character at all as every skill will unusable…

I can see how that would be frustrating in PvP/WvW, but in PvE those things are classic. Never change!

The difference between fear and immobilize is: Fear can be broken by a stun breaker. Immobilize cannot be broken by a stun breaker. I think that’s where the issue is.

Bingo.

Which makes immobilize(unless you are near a cliff lol), a much better option than fear. I haven’t used it much in a while, does immobilize still stack brutally?

Immobilize makes it so that you can’t move your character, therefore it is a loss of control.
