Once you guys implement this Mega Server, I think in order for individual servers to retain a modicum of “Server Identity” the best way to do that is to implement a chat server that is only available to players on a given server. That way, recruiting for WvW or guilds that want members on specific server —WvW guilds especially will find this useful-- they can. There is no way to go to a big player city and safely let people know on your server that you are doing an all call for WvW etc. A chat for specific servers would do that. Can you guys think of anything else that would help servers maintain their identities?

Too much work to design such a feature.

Why not just say the server name in chat?

This could definitely be an issue. If someone calls in Map chat to rally at a WP in WvW, but this message is sent to an opposing server, they’ll know about it. Glad you brought this up, hope we can get some response from Anet to prevent stuff like this.

Good question. I forgot to state in my post that the biggest reason for doing this is so rival guilds don’t see in chat what you are planning in WvW. It is very common for WvWers to advertise in LA that they are going to be forming zergs for attacks. if a chat like this isn’t implemented, there is no way you can do that without letting every other Server you are fighting that you are attacking them. It needs to be really specific and only let members of that server see the chat channel.

Hmmm, not sure why you think this would be too much work. We already have quite a number of available chat channels. This is an excellent suggestion and it might be much easier than you are suggesting.

Saying the server name in chat does not mask the message from the enemy.

So what’s stopping spies from doing that now? Just guest to the enemy server and eavesdrop.

Actually, I’m not sure why we can’t just add chat channels on the fly. Under the hood it’s just a tag on the message. STO has any number of user-defined channels.

You are right, in it’s current form, someone could guest and listen in. This is why this option makes even more sense. This new chat channel should only be shown based on the actual home server of the user.

It makes incredible sense.

Precisely. Have it only be available to people of that particular home server. Heck, we could use this before the mega servers are introduced.
