Q:

Skins are likely one of the biggest sources of income for ArenaNet. Between adding armors and outfits to the Gem Store, adding new weapon skins to the store (through the ridiculous lottery system, but that’s a different topic), selling transmutation charges, and people buying gems to convert to gold to buy skins, aesthetic is probably something big for ArenaNet.

It’s, thus, a bit surprising how bad the Wardrobe Storage is. Most of the GW2 UI has some big flaws due to having been build piecemeal update after update, but the Wardrobe has a lot of room for improvements. My suggestions:

  • Allow us to sort by sets. Right now, we can sort armor by weight and by piece. But if I want to, say, see all pieces of the Scale armor set and nothing else, there’s no simple way to do so. Same with weapons – we can sort by weapon type, but not by weapon set. Being able to sort by set would allow us to easily see which sets are complete and which aren’t, which could make players want to finish a given set, which could lead players to giving ArenaNet money. It’s win-win.
  • Allow us to sort by source. Create tabs so we know which armors and weapons are acquired through crafting, which are acquired through dungeons, which are acquired through the Gem Store, and which are acquired through other means. This would make the wardrobe more organized, and it could even link from the tabs to the relevant collections.
  • Expand the wardobe to include a preview window in the wardrobe itself. It’s poor design to click preview, open another window in front of the wardrobe window, have to drag one of the two windows to the side so they do not overlap, and alternate between one and the other to preview a full set of armor and/or weapons.

As far as sorting by sets goes, you can use the Search feature in the Wardrobe to some effect. For instance, when I want to see all the Ascalonian Weapon skins that I have in my collection, I go to the weapons section and type “Ascalonian”. As for the other suggestions, that would be nice.

do you even search bro?

seriously though, i get you want more QOL updates to the wardrobe, but i don’t think it’s Anet’s priority right now

All suggestions are nice right now but Priority is key. As a dev told me once, Do you want some cool QoL change or some awesome new thing in the expansion pack?

I know. That’s still not perfect, though – it’s why I specifically used “scale armor” as my example. If you search for scale, you will find more than one armor option (scale armor, tempered scale armor). If you’re trying to browse all sets, it’s also very clumsy – you have to look the next set’s name, search for it, preview piece by piece, then unsearch, look the next set’s name, and so on.

I was thinking the same thing, until they told us about the camera changes. Aren’t those basically QoL things, too?

Which might have been developed/needed specifically for something in the expansion, but they decided to release it early.

It is of course also possible that they do have people working on other stuff than the expansion or that this have been in the works for quite some time.

For now the only things I want for the wardrobe in the bank are:

  • A “Toys & Tolls” tab where individual characters can get soulbound copies of any of the items that do not help in combat, lasts forever, and multiple characters can already use it.
So players do not have to constantly but them in the bank to use them with different characters. The original items would be destroyed when adding them to this tab, and the replicas will be soulbound, so if someone has two of the same account bound item, the cost of any additional original could be refunded, and they will also be able to sell any remaining tradable copies they may have, like the unbreakable choir bell.
Examples of items that wold go there are unlimited gathering tools, salvage-o-matics, everlasting tonics, instruments, travel items, kites, balloons, costume brawl toys, the how to dance, the music and sound players, etc…
  • In the skins and miniatures section, when hovering the mouse over one that is not unlcoked but was ever available via gem purchase, blue button with a gem icon will appear. If you click that button, the icon pops an extended panel with a warning message and three buttons: One to preview, one to cancel and one to confirm. Pressing the confirm button twice buys the skin with gems. Buying them individually like this may be more expensive than when they are in packages (e.g.: Buying all 6 skins of an armor set separately may cost 1000 gems instead the 700 of the full package, and a skin that cost 150 may increase to 250-500), but it allows buying skins that may no longer be in the gemstore stock, like the wide rim glasses or the bunny hat.

@Test – The Camera Changes I believe are apart of HoT but they are just slowly giving one or two things before the expansion pack is out. This could be to lessen DvD/CD space requirements on the physical copy or to quicken the download speed.
