In game marrige
not if there are perks, no thanks.
I don’t think i’ll be able to convince my wife to start player gw2, and I wouldn’t like to marry anyone else, not even in a video game.
I don’t agree with marriage perks IRL so, no. Woudln’t have a problem with it just being for fun though, I know EQ use to do it, even gave a trinket item of wedding bands to the players and were done by GMs, it was a cool thing way way back when they had the staff to do so. They later added a purchasable wedding chapel area to host your own weddings.
All I can do is have flashbacks to Sword Art Online.

I love sword art online
FF11 had an ok marriage system but you had to book every thing and it was very costly. They had rings with names on them and i think you shared your “bank spaces” so all account bound items where usable by both i guess (no real account bound in ff11 just items you could not sell) you could do the same thing in GW2 so you would have some benefit but not that big of one.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA

Where you murder your spouse to steal everything in their join storage system?
Seriously, that was one of the worst episodes. (Love the show, though.)
I’d like to see this. Here’s some thoughts on how it could work.
Each player purchases a marriage licence using gold or gems. Then both players present their licences to a NPC to join their accounts in marriage. Polygamy not permitted in Tyria.
Married accounts could have:
- Access to a secondary “joint bank”. To share materials / equipment etc.
- Access to a secondary “joint wallet”. To share gold / gems / tokens etc.
- Account bound items are shareable between the married accounts.
Would also need to have a divorce process so the two accounts could be un-joined. Each player purchases a divorce licence with gold or gems and presents to the NPC to break the marriage. Any items / tokens / gold / gems etc contained within the joint bank or wallet would be destroyed if not removed before completing the divorce. Or the process could be prevented from being completed until the bank / wallet had been emptied. Any account bound items get automatically returned to the original account they were bound to.
All I can do is have flashbacks to Sword Art Online.

In Ragnarok Online there was a marriage system.

sorry to talk about other games >_> but sometimes brainstorming requires it.
…Epiphany!
If they did plot out some kind of marriage system, they could do an event kickoff with Kas and Marjory’s wedding!

Last time this topic came up I said “kitten no, I’m on my third marriage in RL and the last thing I need is a In-Game wife!” I stand by that previous comment nothing has changed.

yeah but would be a sad one, isnt Maj soposed to die to?
<insert evil laught>Which cities will allow same-sex marriages?
I am against it. Not that it would affect me personally either way — I probably would just ignore it — but I don’t think this is a good idea for GW2.
- It brings real-life relationship drama where it doesn’t belong.
- It’s a non-sequitur. Asking for in-game marriage in GW2 is completely arbitrary. This game is not a social romance sim about personal relationships and finding your true love. You are only asking for marriage out of habit, because other MMOs may have had it.
- It’s not a game feature, it’s just surface-level “meta” baloney. What you are asking for is not gameplay, it’s just a request that the game devs formally glorify your real-life romantic endeavours.
- What percentage of players do you think actually play with their real-life significant other, and would even want to get married? I suspect this is a feature that a small minority of players would even use. It’s far better to develop new content and features that everyone can enjoy.
- A significant amount of resources will have to be spent, just to develop an irrelevant ceremony that won’t impact the game whatsoever. Devs will have to sit down and discuss what this feature will include, and how it will be implemented. They will have to design costumes, items, and environments. They will have to build the interface and rules for the system, script NPCs, write dialogue, etc. I would much rather see the effort go toward another map or living story chapter.
This is a really weird thread.
I am already married to seven people in the game across various servers. How do you expect me to pick just one?
/cry
If in-game marriages were to be put in place, how long would it be before in-game divorces were also needed.
How would items be split up without having an in-game courts system? We’d need a new Judge class, a new Lawyer class, a Bailiff class, etc. just to handle that.
How would in-game alimony be handled?
Child support?
Would players get new titles like “[Player]’s Ex Husband/Wife?”
In-game dating services?
Too much reality for my taste.

Please this is a game, not real life. Keep this drama out of Guildwars.
New ticket send to support:
Dear support.
I used your ingame sytem to marry another player. However a week later I logged on to find EVERYTHING gone from our shared bank. He transferred all items and gold to his second account then sent me signed divorce papers. I hear he is married to another char now, a wealthy trading post flipper. I fear the worse is going to happen to this marriage also.
Please, can you get my gold and items back. I especially miss my mini Mr. Sparkles.
From support:
Dear player
Unfortunately we are unable to help you with this problem. The marriage gave him all rights to items and gold in the shared accounts. We can not return anything to you. If there is anything else you would like us to help you with, don’t hesitate to contact us.
I hope this helped you with your problem. Good day.

I believe we should have a in game marriage system. We should have perks to the marriage as well. I think it should be like in Trion worlds Rift where you can marry at any level but have to pay a price for the vows.
I believe we should have in-game divorces and alimony. Where your ex gets 50% of all your earned gold, 50% of all your loot drops, 50% of all your APs etc. for a number of 3+ married time years.
O and don’t forget in game custody trials, lawyers, courts, etc. which take out whatever remains that you won’t lose to the alimony.
I say sure! Technically, you could host this today on your own with some gemstore outfits, dyes and some friends. I don’t think you should get anything special out of it though other than what you buy each other.
This is from someone who plays with his wife and daughter. My wife and I also got married in EQ many years ago as well.
That said, anyone who says it would be too much IRL drama has never had a bad pug. Now that’s drama! I’d relax at a wedding over that kind of BS any day.
Why not just do it the way people did in Ultima Online?
That game had no marriage mechanic but people got their characters married all the time. They’d buy or craft a couple of rings, get their friends together and hold a ceremony.
My sister (who was mainly an armorer) had a whole side business with a friend where they’d recommend venues, rent decorations, my sister would make the rings and clothes for the wedding party her friend made food and officiated. She even wrote up a whole selection of ceremonies for them to choose from.
The only part of that which wouldn’t work in this game is decorating the venue, but GW2 has a lot of locations which are already beautiful, UO was more barren.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
why not just RP it
i mean i could ask for a pizza party feature on the forums
or i could just rp it
You can always play it out on Roleplaying.
Othervise I agree with the rest: no marriage system.
Tho, I’d rather have alcohol items be a bundles, instead of consumed and cause post process distortion effects, that has to be activated with the skill associated with the bundle.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.
nooooooooo000ooo
Polygamy pls
Please this is a game, not real life. Keep this drama out of Guildwars.
The drama has already begun.
I’m sure they will add in marriage right after Kas and Maj get hitched.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
Polygamy pls
No Polygamy, however there is a 5 pt achievement for marrying 500 different people.
I think it would be cool. Heck, you can have partners in Fable and a few other games, why not GW2?
I could see Marjory and Kasmeer tying the knot, as well as Logan Thackeray and Queen Jennah
I think this should be applicable to us the players only being able to marry NPC’s though, because there’d be a whole lot of complaints if it were player on player marriage.

You also don’t usually see sunglasses in fantasy games/MMORPG’s. Just saying.
I uhh… no I don’t think so. I usually have an open mind when it comes to games but for some reason things like this just weird me out. I guess I am not that open minded then lol
That sounds really stupid
You want marriage, go to another MMO.
Forsaken World lets you marry and divorce, but eventually the divorce papers fill your inventory. The only way to get rid of them is to delete the character.
But, I leave you with this.
Lady Alexis Hawk – Main – Necromancer
Ravion Hawk – Warrior
I never understood why people want to get married in videogames. Wut.

raises hand
i´m just thinking how many realationships wound be broken because the girl says: " well you married me in game , when will you marry me in real life?"
as long as you dont have any advantages from the marrige in game i dont care
No, this should not happen. All the games I’ve played with in-game marriages are complete drama fests. I don’t want to see people who come here to use this game as a dating site then freak when it doesn’t work out. Please… no. Just no. No.. no no no no.
No.
I play Guild Wars 2 with my wife and I’d marry her in game as well. Happily even.
I always support personal RP features like this.
It’s these sort of things that are supposed to separate MMOs from the other genres.
1. Some people play MMOs like FPSs and they are just in it for round after round of combat.
2. Some people play MMOs like RTSs and MOBAs and they are all about crunching those numbers down and optimizing every millisecond of an encounter.
3. Some people play MMOs like a second life where they care about their characters, their friendships, their guilds and the look of their gear.
Take the aspects of 1 and 2 out and you still have an MMO. Take the aspects of 3 out and you’ve changed the genre. So this marriage thing, it’s a valid suggestion. A little something to separate our characters from walking metas. To be more than numbers, stats and strategies.
I understand the opposition, but I don’t agree. I think anyone who has spent enough time on the internet will have built up a pretty hard shell against drama and the other atrocities committed in the text of the web. If you care too much, you only become a part of it.
Never going to be implemented. This is not a Facebook Game…
Please this is a game, not real life. Keep this drama out of Guildwars.

I’m sure they will add in marriage right after Kas and Maj get hitched.
Just like they added it to GW1 when Keiran and Gwen got married?
There is one good reason why a marriage system should never be implemented: Drama.
I don’t understand. In a game about being a hero and killing Dragons. When would I find time to meet someone to get married too? Also why the hell would I want to marrie someone in a game. I’m sure there are games like that out there already, like the Sims or second life. Play the. If you want to marrie a picsel.

Some people enjoy RPing in an MMO. Some MMOs it’s easier to do so. I don’t think GW2 is one of those.
RIP City of Heroes
I wouldn’t be against it, but players can always just RP it.
I wouldn’t mind it if it were added, as long as there are no big ingame benefits to being married.
Having benefits isn’t a problem imo, but let them be small things. An event you can trigger with your spouse once a day or something. Nothing major, but something fun and ‘special’ to do. Hell, let it be open world for all I care.
In a previous game I played there was a small daily quest as well for married couples. Main benefit though was marrieng your best friend to keep the creepy guys who started hitting on your avatar at bay. (Fortunately not run into anyone like that on gw2 )
The mysteries dissapear and life stands explained.”
An in-game marriage system would be nothing but wasted resources. GW2 isn’t a serious RP game, and it just wouldn’t make sense to implement some RP element to it. I could understand if GW2 was RP-heavy, but it’s not.
I disagree with the idea that GW2 isn’t RP heavy. The game is a sandbox. For you it may not be RP heavy, and that is perfectly acceptable. But there is definitely a population of people who desire to have tools for improving their roleplaying here.
In my honest opinion, I think that there have been really excellent things that have come from small teams that created stuff as a side project. Super Adventure Box is a prime example. Josh Foreman put together a small team to make something as a side project on their own time and it ended up being taken seriously and really improved Guild Wars 2 as a whole.
Personally, I have no vested stake in whether or not marriage would be implemented in this game. I think that if they had a small team of maybe 3-5 people who want to work on this as a side project on their own time, they have that right to do so.
If I had any say in it (and I’ve got about as much say as the next player, so… that isn’t much, ahaha) I’d say:
Sure! Add in Marriage. But my caveat would be that is Has to be permanent. No divorce. No matter how hard people cry they wanna get out. If people want marriage this badly, they’d better be serious about it.

I don’t see how you can think GW2 is a sandbox is game. I’m not sure you know what that means. There are no sandbox elements in GW2. Community RP does not equal sandbox (if we’re talking about gameplay mechanics/progression here). If anything, GW2 is an action game, not a full-fledged RPG, or even a slight one. Sure, it has lore, and a few emotes, but there aren’t any tools for RP, at all. By tools, i mean Biography sections for your characters, custom event UI, chat UI that supports IC & OOC dialogues, or dozens of emotes to interact with each other. We can’t even sit in chairs. lol. A lot of buildings are closed off, and there are many other restrictions. If 2 years later, there hasn’t been any improvement (or even discussion from the devs), for getting these RP tools, i wouldn’t hold out hope for a marriage system. They haven’t even improved the current guild system. lol. I’m not even a roleplayer, but i know the things they use and want in other MMOs. There is a community that RPs, but that’s a very insignificant portion of the overall population.
RP might be community-driven, but it’s definitely not developer-driven. That’s not where their focus is. It’s currently on the Living Story, which is good for immersion, but a good RPG has tools and a UI that supports it.
And for the record, i’m not against any kind of marriage system if it is implemented. I just don’t see a purpose in it, when the devs want players to focus on other things.
RP players have been complaining since the Feature Patch that it’s difficult to RP since zones aren’t even server specific anymore. They can’t go and meet in some out of the way, lightly populated zone on their server because that doesn’t exist anymore with Megaservers.
RIP City of Heroes
