Update: Idea #1 has been explained in a NOTE a little more to address a few misconception about the function of ‘Use-all’. Please be sure to read that note.

One of the new things explained in idea #1 is there would not be a “You are Encumbered” Window to prevent item overflow in the event of insufficient Inventory space to which a warning message saying so will come up before players actually use the ‘Use-all’ option.

OR if the “You are Encumbered” Window is to stay, it can be made where not every item in the window is shown, to say that “You are attempting to carry x amount items than will fit in your bags. Clean some space or delete something.” whereupon clicking the ‘Take All’ button reduces the x amount being withheld per click.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Thank you very much to everyone who has +1’d / supported these ideas so far.

Here are mock-up images of what a few of the ideas explained below could look like:

Idea 1. http://imgserv.com/images/2015/09/19/H1Jd6N8V.jpg (Use-all option)

Idea 2. http://imgserv.com/images/2015/09/19/j0LDX.jpg (Y and N as Hotkeys)

Idea 4. http://imgserv.com/images/2015/09/19/pT6POC.png (more TP items displayed)

Idea 10. http://imgserv.com/images/2015/09/19/nDSpBZ107.jpg (World Boss Timer Window)

Honorable Mention Idea 11. http://imgserv.com/images/2015/09/19/VfP09uDlF.jpg (total of gathered materials in the Bank, Inventory and Stored shown in the TP)

1. Give all container-type items and certain consumable items (for example Essences of Luck, Wintersday Gifts, Trick-or-Treat Bags, etc.) a ‘Use all’ option whereupon a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ Confirmation Window pops up with a warning message saying, “To prevent overflow of items, the “You are Encumbered” Window will not appear in the event of insufficient Inventory space. Are you sure you want to use all at once?” (the sound effects from consumable/bagged items upon using the ‘Use-all’ option would sound off only once to prevent overload of too much of the same sound).

Forcing players to click 500 times to open 250 consumables that contain many items is a lot of wear and tear on our gaming mice after a while. No player should have to go through this much clicking.

NOTE: If players use the ‘Use-all’ option with an already full inventory, the action of ‘Use-all’ will never go through at all until the player makes more room in their inventory.

Furthermore, when players use the ‘Use-all’ option, it is not necessarily the case that all consumable/bagged items will be used due to lack of inventory space to store all those items, and so in the case of insufficient inventory space, no items will be lost, to which a message will still pop up saying to players that they do not have enough inventory space. Nothing changes like if a player clicks a stack of consumable/bagged items one click at a time to which they are eventually met with the same message regarding insufficient inventory space.

Let me explain this mathematically if the above is not clear:

Say you use the ‘Use-all’ option explained in idea #1, and you have room for all items coming from 150 bags out of 250 bags, yet that 151th bag contained 3 items that could not fit in your inventory because you have only 2 empty inventory spaces left. Guess what? When the game code sees 3 items at once cannot fit into only 2 empty inventory spaces left, the use of that 151th bag will never go through, and as a result, NO excess items will be lost because there would be no excess items left over.

2. Make the ‘Yes’ or ‘ No’ options Hotkeys that can be used in the Destroy Item Confirmation Window where the Y and N are underlined. I have seen this simple option in other games when destroying items and it would be great to see this in GW 2

Doing this will make it easier for players to Destroy items at a faster pace vs. using the mouse to choose ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ for each undesired item, especially after receiving many useless items that won’t sell on the TP from opening a stack of openable items.

3. Make the ‘Buy more at Trading Post’ option available in all collection windows within the ‘Collection’ achievements section for all collectible items that can be bought and sold at the Trading Post (when players Right-Click on a purchasable collectible item).

4. Without changing the current size of the Trading Post Window (this is not option-related yet should be mentioned), at least 10 items should be displayed (instead of 3) under the ‘Recently Viewed’ and ‘My Latest Trades’ columns where we can use Scroll Bars to view all 10 items under those two columns within the ‘Home’ tab.

5. Under the ‘Miniatures’ section in the Hero Window, add the ‘Find in Trading Post’ option only for Minis that can be bought and sold at the Trading Post (much like you can do within the ‘Dyes’ section).

6. Within the Trading Post, give players the option to ‘Hide all unlocked’ skins and minis like you can in the ‘Dyes’ section of the Hero Window. (This idea brought to you by MashMash.1645 in the comments. This is not really a new idea but a good one).

7. Give players the option to assign a Hotkey for ‘stowing’ and ‘activating’ a Ranger’s Pet.

8. Add a Template Saving System for Builds & Trait Lines so players can switch up their setups on the go during their gameplay to adapt more quickly to different situations.

Note: Idea 8 used to be a ‘View Gear Type’ option, that despite explaining throughout the idea players would only be allowed to view the names of another player’s gear (not Player Stats, Gear Stats and Mods within the View Gear Window), and that there would be a setting within the Settings Window named ‘Allow players to view your Gear Type’ with a Check Box next to it that is not enabled by default… the idea itself (after many conversations I have had about it with players in-game) posed an issue that was argued where elite players doing end-game content would criticize or kick players in parties that did not have the ‘Allow players to view your Gear Type’ option enabled prior to joining the Party, among similar scenarios that were argued.

That is why I no longer stand behind the original 8th idea because I believe all players should be able to go through all their scratches and bruises (as a learning experience) no matter where they are playing in the game, and no matter their game experience.

Just because a great many players have spent countless hours playing through the core content of the game prior to reaching end-game content does not mean they should be expected to fully understand how to play end-game content when they do get to it, because core content gameplay is not the same experience.

9. Create a Toy Tab in the Hero Window where players can store all their Toys bought from the Gem Store to save more Inventory space and to ensure Toys are with players anywhere they travel like players can do with Minis (this idea brought to you by jessym.2109, although I have heard other players in-game say they want this, too).

Note: I have had players tell me in past conversations that one of the reasons they will not buy a lot of Toys from the Gem Store is because they do take up too much Inventory and Bank space, and I can agree because I own many Toys from the Gem Store as well.

The reason why the original idea #9 was removed and replaced with another is explained on Page 2 of this thread between the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th post down.

10. Implement an in-game World Boss Timer Window that has a timer for each Boss to encourage more players to participate in World Boss Events vs. making players rely on third-party/external sources outside the game to keep track of the World Boss Events. That being said, using external sources to track World Boss Events would still be viable for players not logged into the game, yet an in-game Event Timer would be more accessible.

Furthermore, World Boss Events that are already taking place in the Timer Window would read, “Started” whereas World Boss Events that are over would read, “Pending…”

NOTE: This idea is not option-related, yet it is an idea I believe that will bring more players together on the battlefield during World Boss Events.

(This idea brought to you by the general community)

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Honorable Mention 11. Add a ‘Total Gathered’ label below the ‘Vendor Value’ label for all gathered materials within the ‘Buy / Sell’ Windows of the Trading Post.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Let me know what you think. If you like these ideas, please spread word and support!

I am absolutely on board with points 1, 3, 4, and 5. I’m a little iffy on 2, as I am a nervous nelly about destroying things of importance. However, Having to destroy and hit “yes” 20 times when deleting a ton of soulbound items that can’t be broken/sold does get a bit cumbersome.

I would like them to add a filter to the TP that let you filter out unlocked items and skins.

When I am wanting to buy mini’s or skins I have to wade through all the ones I already have unlocked.

That there is actually a really nice idea, to have the option to ‘hide all unlocked’ minis or skins like you can in the ‘Dyes’ section of the Hero Window.

I am definitely going to make that a 6th idea in my OP. Thank you for your feedback!

3 years in and there’s STILL no option to ‘sort’ items in your bag or bank. Clicking “sort” would group all similar items next to each other – weapons, armour etc. My bank especially is a horrid mess of random items and empty spaces that I shouldn’t have to tidy myself. Unnacceptable. If 10+ year old mmo’s can do it, so can GW2.

“meta” this, “meta” that. Please stop saying the word “meta”.

Agreed, especially that very last point you made. These things should already be available to players, yet it’s not just players that would benefit from this. People at Anet play the game, too.

There are a lot of fabulous auction house features in Rift (a much older game) that the TP here could benefit from. They have excellent sorting options, your sorting choices are saved from one visit to the next until you change them, there’s an option to hide items you’ve already purchased and weed them out from skins and things that you still need to collect, etc.

The TP here feels archaic by comparison.

#2 will not be a problem because there are two confirmations a player makes when they hit the ‘Destroy’ option on items. The first confirmation is the fact a player chose to want to Destroy an item in the first place (it does say ‘Destroy’, so you know what you are about to do), and the second confirmation is a Dialogue Window asking whether or not you really want to Destroy the item.

With that being said in mind. Correct. Having to mouse over ‘Yes’ to Destroy every undesired item gets tiring after a while.

I feel the same way. I never played Rift, yet I have seen TPs in other games pull things off a little better when it comes to sorting items and whatnot.

I’d just love it if I could set luck to auto consume, crafting mats to automatically go into storage, and an option to get rid of those pointless rewards chests. Just send the stuff right to my bags, I don’t need to click each one to see what in them and then again to clear the less than exciting contents off the screen.

And if I leave them there those jiggly chests get distracting.

All of these ideas are a great.
Pets that could be stowed and stayed stowed would be a massive improvement as they can be annoying during jumping puzzles and certain vistas.
Trading Post does need more filtering, Another idea that needs to be added is : current highest bidder. Nothing worse that checking hundreds of your auctions.
Also function to cancel 1 or more items in a stack with your auctions.

Can i just quickly add something:

The option: “Deposit All Materials” witch is currently placed in the options menu of the inventory window, should have it’s own button on the inventory window.

Reason:
‘Deposit All Materials’ is not an option in the sense that it is a setting like the other options in the options menu, but an action that one might perform very regularly.

The way it is positioned now is inconvenient and not very logical, and last but not least causes missclicks on for instance the option below it ‘Compact’ witch instantly creates a big mess in your inventory.

The same also goes for the ‘Compact’ function in that menu, since it is also not a setting. Personally I never use this function since it does weird things to my inventory but other people might like and use it often.

All the other options in the options menu are in it’s place I think.

IIRC, gw1 had a ‘trash can’ in your inventory. Something similar could be implemented to gw2.
First you do… something to toggle it open, at which point any item you drop on it is moved there. When your inventory next closes, everything in trashcan is permanently destroyed.

I disagree. Something similar to the Trash Bin system like in GW1 should not be implemented in GW2. It is an archaic system that would just be more clutter within the UI to add some Trash Bin icon somewhere in the Inventory than it is to have a ‘Destroy Item Confirmation Window’ with the Y and N underlined as Hotkeys.

All the other options in the options menu are in it’s place I think.

Technically, a ‘setting’ is different from an ‘option’. A setting is to have something set the way you want it whereas an option is something you can choose from a list of actions you want to carry out.

Therefore, the ‘Deposit All Materials’ option is considered an option not only because of its wording but how it functions. However, had ‘Deposit All Materials’ been named ‘Auto Deposit All Materials’ instead, then it would be considered a setting that would belong in the Settings Window, not the Inventory.

With that being said in mind, the same goes for the ‘Compact’ option as explained about the ‘Deposit All Materials’ option regarding why neither one are settings.

Furthermore, I also believe extracting the ‘Deposit All Materials’ and ‘Compact’ options from the Gear Icon they are assigned to to be placed somewhere else within the Inventory Window out in the open would create unnecessary clutter.

There are bags that do this automatically.
Oiled packs, automatically add junks items.
Craftman’s bags automatically add crafting mats.
Equipment boxes automatically add in equipment according to tier (masterwork, rare, exotic)
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bag

To be clearer, what me and tomlin.8204 were talking about is for Anet to implement a more obvious, out-in-the-open organization system within the Inventory instead of the system being vague by having to buy special bags from the TP for certain item types.

Furthermore, the Bank does not even have a system like what’s already in place regarding Inventory bag types. There are simply no options within a player’s Bank for any organization, and so if Anet address the organization issue in the Bank, they should go ahead and implement that same system to the Inventory as well.

Ont thing that has always bothered me, but doesn’t come up often is when you destroy items, you are often prompted to type out the full name. Usually this is not a thing, but I recently deleted some of the LA JP keys from cache 1 (I had extras from not finishing it) and had to type out the full name, which I remember being ridiculously long, and had to include the ‘(1/4)’ part of it. Can’t we just type out the word ‘DELETE’ for all items like this? It’s still enough of a prompt that destroying something important on accident would be very hard to do.

I agree 100% with most of these. Gw2 needs these “quality of life” features that will make it easier for new and old players combined! I remember that I got so frustrated with all of my bags and luck that I just downloaded an Auto Clicker… However most of all what i really want to see come to Gw2 that is not necessarily a quality of life feature are mounts! Gw2 is meant to be a “charismatic” game, and what better way to display this than a mount! they do not have to insincere your speed any faster if at all… It would just really be nice to see them. Gw2 just feels wrong without them.

I have to ask… Why are you against idea #8 when idea #8 prevents the whole, “FotL or Hanes?” scenario you point out? What will be the negative effect of players only being able to view the names of another player’s gear? (not the gear stats) Just because? or…

Anyway, thank you for your feedback.

P.S. I changed the wording of #8‘s idea from ’Inspect Gear’ to ‘View Gear Type’ to be clearer regarding what would be allowed to be viewed.

Unnacceptable. If 10+ year old mmo’s can do it, so can GW2.

Agreed, especially that very last point you made. These things should already be available to players, yet it’s not just players that would benefit from this. People at Anet play the game, too.

There are bags that do this automatically.
Oiled packs, automatically add junks items.
Craftman’s bags automatically add crafting mats.
Equipment boxes automatically add in equipment according to tier (masterwork, rare, exotic)
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bag

That’s a really horrid, awful substitute for a basic, common feature. Not only do you have to pay gold and go to the hassle of finding/crafting/organizing these bags, but they also don’t do what I’m asking. There will still be gaps in the inventory, you will still have to scroll around and sort things manually, within each bag. There is NO excuse why we don’t have this feature. It’s just Anet being stubborn/difficult in their bizarre, hipster-esque attempt to be different from other mmo’s.

“meta” this, “meta” that. Please stop saying the word “meta”.

I have a dream…. where players will no longer use up a stack of consumables by left clicking ten thousand times and can instead right-click -> consume all…

In this dream, players have the ability to save and load build templates… and they are not punished by the actions of bots and they can send more than two mails before becoming suppressed…

I have a dream…. to one day play a game whose interact with npc key, loot key, revive teammate key, and pick up bundle key can all be bound to separate but equal keys.

I have a dream…. that players of all different races shapes sizes and colors will be able to party up with their friends by using one command, rather than being forced to figure out if they should use join or invite.

I have a dream…

Well, i’m not suggesting exactly the system from GW1. This would be more like the temporary inventory window you get if you manage to overflow your bags, but allowing you to manually move unwanted items to it. When you close it/your inventory, it brings up a single dialogue “You have items in your trash can. Do you wish to permanently destroy them?”

click yes once and everything in it is gone.

Thank you for elaborating on the Trash Bin Window idea you had in mind.

In a way I like the idea you propose where you’re given a second window to move items between your Inventory and a Trash Bin Window, yet on the other hand I believe operating from two different windows from the Inventory Window (where this Trash Bin Window feature is in) can seem a bit much vs. just operating from a single Window to Destroy items.

I think we could use a few more QoL patches! I like a lot of these ideas.

- Maybe adding the option to “show/hide” in other pieces of equipment like chest, or shoes would be nice. 300 anyone?

- Some minis’re plain stupid, they’re cute, but really? i mean you’re running across the street with a little captain bak or queen jena and no one says anything? (?°?°? ? they “for Lore reasons” should be removed from the game.

- but what i think that the game needs the most is a change in the “black lion trade company”

i got a low-end pc barely meeting the minimum specs, but still can play in world events/cities with 50+ players spamming skills with full graphics at 25+ fps (which is amazing taking into account my horrible pc)

still… it takes me 10 minutes to buy or sell anything in the trading post due the HUGE drop in fps when using it.

waku waku?

I’d be fine with 9 of the 10, and #1 would be a godsend. Number 8, Inspection, though — do not want — almost as much as I do not want people IRL asking me, “FotL or Hanes?”

My gear is my business. My skins are my business. There is a wardrobe in the bank — if someone wants to know what the label is in the coat I’m wearing, they can look it up there.

These all sound pretty good. I especially like the idea of the first one, having to spam click essences is usually pretty annoying and being able to use them all simultaneously would be a nice quality of life change. Number ten would also be convenient instead of having to keep a third party website open. Overall? I like it.

Here is mine:

  • When viewing materials on the TP it should have a hover pop-up informing us of how many we ALREADY HAVE stored:

a) in the bank
b) in the materials section
c) “total” of both banked + stored mats

So that we may simply calculate how many more we wish to buy instead of the usual; “oh, I forgot to check how many of these I have, better run all the way back to the bank…”

Hope that helps.
