So i dont know about the strats for guild bounty but… here`s how my pve guys do it (in theory):

1.Gather at a set time when everyone can be online.
2.Distribute all the areas to ppl so we can find as many sheriff dudes as possible
3.Kill 2 minibosses

Here is what actually happens:

1. Apparently most people have time around the same times in a week (namely weekend evening) which means that we are doing the guild bounty at the same time as 100 other dorks.
2. MOST of the areas are WAAAAAAY too huge to find the bloody sheriff in a reasonable amount of time. And some zones are simply impossible – you dont even have to bother trying (hi @ sotzz in gendarran fields!)
Also at the same time other guilds are killing some of them so you HAVE TO SEARCH OVER AND OVER AND OVER!
3. When we got like 7-10 dudes we start the event anyway – cuz honestly its not going to get much better than this. Then we get 1 dude we already found – kill him and another dude in some ridiculous area. We all travel there search for 15 minutes and give up frustrated.

^This whole process takes like 1+ hours which is mostly spent alt tabbing between your minmap and your internet browser showing a guide to the path the sheriff takes.

Well that was A LOT of fun RIGHT?!DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Almost as good as the pvp part of gw2 (which honestly would be brilliant if anyone at this company cared for it at any point in time)

Long story short:
Guild bounty is actually making me want to leave my pve guild so i dont have to put up with this kitten anymore.

Fire the people who came up with this.

Hire more good people for pvp and maybe some of the pvp players will actually buy an expansion when it comes out. So far the only the thing gw2 really did VERY WELL in my opinion is the leveling experience. Suffice to say that leveling is still the most annoying thing in mmos anyway.

Sounds like your PvE guild isn’t very good at this PvE aspect of the game. So your knee jerk reaction is to call for the firing of the developers

pro-tip: while you’re waiting for everyone one to assemble, delegate players that are ready to go scout the zones with the harder to find bounties. Once they locate the mark they can follow it till it gets close to a waypoint and then chat it up to keep it there.

Makes things a lot easier.

Skip step 2 and it becomes much, much more fun and exciting to do. Our guild has done T3 on several occasions with around 6 people per target, so it is definitely doable.

Stalking Bounties before the mission takes a lot of the fun and pressure away in my opinion.

I just want to make sure I understand where you’re coming from…

You’re calling for the people who came up with Guild Bounties to be fired because you find the Tier 1 bounties too difficult to for your guild to complete? On top of this, you also want to leave your guild because you feel like you’re required to participate in them?

No i dont think its difficult. I think its boring, pointless and most of all a huge waste of time.

ohh and yes of course everyone goes to an area as soon as they show up – no kitten cpt. obvious – doesnt get any faster when we barely have 1 player per area.

I’ve found that it all depends who you get as bounties. Now, you need to hunt them with your level 80’s just because you never know where you’ll be sent (South Sun at level 13, etc).

Tricksy is a PitA because Blazeridge is freaking huge and she can cover almost the entire map. The South Sun guy hides in dead Karka’s kitten

We split up in to as many teams of 3 or 4 as we can and pre-scout then just decided to go ahead after a bit and hope we get the ones we’ve found or have luck.

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. Then leave the rest to Batman.”

This is one of the problem with PvErs many of you seem to think in terms of " I NEEED MOAR STUFFF FAAAAAAST" and hence boss exploits and kitten “stand exactly on this point and autohit with a 1200+ range weapon” strategies are born

At the end of the day i only want to keep playing if the game is fun and adding a new colour type for items doesnt do anything for me.

@ your question specificly: 2 explo speedruns 1 Flamecitadel and another fast one (like AC) of your choice. Sure as hell is more fun than walking around in circles and only marginally slower if at all

With our guild we don’t pre scout. We simply activate the bounty, the mission leader sends groups of people to between 2 and 4 waypoints along the routes. We usually find all bounties well within the time limit. Sometimes we do not succeed at finding or killing them but then we simply go again. From the way people react on team speak it is pretty obvious that we all enjoy it, I most certainly do.

We’ve come to understand this is the more fun and superior (and apparently the “legit”) way to do it. More failures will occur, but it’ll take less time overall and be a lot more exciting.

If the guild in question in the OP can only field 7 active players during a scheduled bounty, it’s possible the guild is simply too small to take on Guild Bounties at present. At this point, T1s are simply guaranteed victory for my guild- it’s the T3s that really take coordination and active engagement, and they’re a real challenge. Can’t wait for the new bounties

Well yes, they did think that, cause you can! :P

Pre-scouting lessens your chances of anything going wrong and eliminates a lot of the variables that can lead to failure. It doesn’t guarantee success, nor is it the only way to succeed.

On my server, if you ask on the map, you’ll often get people telling you were bosses are, which helps.

If another guild gets a bounty and you get a few shots in with your guild, you BOTH get credit for it.

The last two times we succeeded in our bounties, we did so because of another guild that had already started the final boss, and we were able to get shots in to succeed. It was fun.

I also enjoy the prescouting bit. I enjoy the coordination and working together as a guild.

A 15 minute guild event is sorta short. An hour and a half guild event is just about right for me.

Don’t forget the testers who did these didn’t do pre scouting ^^ So those who do should be furthering chances of success.

But this thread isn’t really about “I can’t do it” or “It’s too hard”

It’s about “This is boring….”

As nice as the rewards are for guild bounties, it’s simply the most boring thing to do. Conglomorate guilds can do anything and everything, but an average sized guild has to spend that first 45 minutes scouting and planning (and praying that Half-Baked doesn’t show up on the bounty list). And that basically amounts to scouting out bounties, hoping no other guild kills it, hoping it shows up on your list, and hoping everyone in the guild gets a chance to tag a bounty.

It’s boring. But to do any of the other guild missions, you have to do it.

Sometimes to get nice things you have to do boring things. Jobs (not all) usually suck, but the money you get for doing them is nice. Going to college every day for 2-8 years is kinda boring, but the degree that gets you 30k-400k+ is nice. Sometimes you need to work for a reward that you are more fond of. Some people find a way to make even the boring stuff seem fun, which makes the not so boring stuff even more fun. It isn’t all Anets job to make the game fun, some part of it is on the players themselves.

Why not? You think the devs need to pamper to everyone’s wishes and complaints? they aren’t babysitters. You know I would say FFXI is a pretty boring and painful game, but by gosh the community at the time I played was amazing . I barely even played the actual game, I had more fun with people and joking and doing game stuff together. Community makes or breaks a game. Community, Customer Service, Content, the 3 c’s in that order. If your community is garbage and no one helps others, it could be the best game ever and still suck. If your content is crap your community can bring it up. If more than 1 thing is lacking, you lose people at large chunks. But it is all based one who is playing unless it is a 1 person game. In which case the C’s do not apply.

I sort of agree.

I find the idea of guild bounties fun. However, I find the pre-bounty time very frustrating and lame. I especially hate holding the NPC in place by pressing F + esc. I once sat there for 50 minutes doing that while the rest of my guild found the other NPCs (and kept getting sent back because of other guilds doing the same). My fingers actually hurt at the end of it.

Ideas for improvement:
1. IF you do not change the below and keep as is, make the bounty not walk away seconds after pressing F. F+esc is lame as hell.

2. Remove the NPCs from the maps until your guild bounty starts. This will remove the ability to find them beforehand. Then, increase the time you have to find them (because 15 minutes without pre-searching is too little, especially at higher tiers). That way, the scramble to find them is a mad rush and you kill them instantly. The bounty would then be more exciting.

Thanks.

99% of what the op said is true

15 minutes is a too little for many guilds.
These things take upwards of 2 hours+ to do..especially fighting other guilds
Organizing 50-100 people to deal with 15 bosses is a nightmare with chat only tools.
Everyone must be on or guildies miss out (multiple timezone unfriendly very much)
Other guilds competing cause rifts, hate and anger.
One reward a week makes the stuff pointless to do after one attempt
Map traveling all over is expensive as..

After doing 3 or 4 of these tier 3 ones i can say i’m pretty much done with these things too, they are just a hassle and just annoy a lot of players…and guild treks yeah biggest waste of coding i’ve seen in a long time..

Hmm I LOVE guild bounties. They are one of our guilds favorite activities. We are a guild of about 400, and we get anywhere from 30-60 people participating every week. We do mid week bounties for personal rewards as well and those are also well attended. We even enjoy scouting. Also try working WITH other guilds, not competing against them. Your guild only needs a couple hits on a target to get credit. Ask them to hold off a few minutes and help each other out, it gives both guilds a better chance at success.

we have 30 – 40 online people in our guild for the bounties.
(total number count 288+ but at most only 30 – 40 plus are online at once, about 80+ are inactive for a long period i believe)

not much problem except last weekend when we got sotzz and komali.

we failed 2 tier 2 bounties and for the 3rd time we settled for tier 1.
we got the drunken sotzz again. the other one was the bookworm skirt in lornar’s pass.

we were kinda depressed but we went and kill the bookworm anyway.
then one guild mate suggested we zerg gendarran fields to look for that drunken fool anyway.

somehow we got lucky and managed to kill drunken sotzz with few seconds left on the timer.

everyone was very happy.

They’re a challenge, but you get the best reward for the first arrest, so even if you fail the second, your time is worthwhile.

“We didn’t adequately prepare for this optional content, so the optional content wasn’t fun.” Okay…well..

The only merit in this post is the point about another guild already being on the bounty. That does seem unfair for you have to search again. It should count if your own guild is able to join in.

Except that it can work in your favor too. We were so close to losing a bounty that another guild was on. We followed that guild to the target, got a few hits on it and succeeded.

It doesn’t matter who tags it first, because both guilds can get credit for it. In fact, I’d say the last two missions we did this was a big help.

In one of them, we had three targets, and just as we popped the mission another guild did. We got Bwiki. One of our “spotters was already there”. She helped that group, which was large, and the rest of the guild focused on the other two.

Everyone got rewards and we all suceeded.

When more guilds realize that they can help each other do this, its’ going to be much more fun.

It’s not the “We didn’t adequately prepare”. It’s the preparation that’s tedious and annoying, and that the preparation itself takes longer than the actual mission.

The part that bugs me the most is that you can have a good chunk of your guild go and search for the bounty targets, but unless you tag the bounty, you don’t get credit and reward for that. That leads to this weird “Don’t touch the bounty until everyone is here” method to make sure that everyone who is helping is rewarded. Basically, the mission expects you to split up to find and kill the bounties, but only rewards if you are all together.

I wanted to chime in because my small / average sized guild just managed our first successful T1 bounty.

Our first attempt failed sunday night, we tried with 6 people, split in two teams of 3, and only found one of the two bosses (2nd one was the guy who’s hidden in a Karka….)

The second time we had Half Baked and one out in Frost Gorge. Our prep went like this:

1 hour before I started the bounty, I notified the guild that we would be doing the bounty hunt, allowing people to finish dungeons and make sure they were available.

10 minutes prior, people logged on to the guild vent server (some with no mic, but they could listen) and we formed 2 parties. The sum total of our attendance for the bounty hunt was 10 people. We formed 2 parties, and I designated a leader for the 2nd party (another guild officer.)

When we triggered the bounty, we each moved to our assigned zones…. I had one person in my party who was level 40 and we had decided that whichever boss was lower level, that party would go to. Everyone else was lvl 80.

Once each team hit their assigned map, they spread out to scout, one person per team looking at the guide, and in general feeding info to everyone else.

We found the frost gorge boss first, and the 5 man team killed it before joining the rest of us in Maelstrom. Once we had 9 people on the map looking (our poor lvl 40 still trecking down there…. he actually gained a level from exploration xp alone just running to the event!) we were able to find the boss. Chatting about where we were going helped a great deal so we could maximize the search.

As soon as one person found the boss, they linked the nearest WP to guild chat and started the bounty. Everyone managed to get to the boss before he died.

No pre-scouting, just solid team work and good communication.

The guild had a great deal of fun with it, people hung out afterwards to do jumping puzzles together, they were linking loot and laughing…. we ressed the poor lvl 41 who got 1 shot and everyone congradulated him just for making it out there….

Your mileage may vary, but thus far, I can only say its been a positive experience for my guild.

LVL 80’s: Thief / Warrior / Guardian / Mesmer

In my view, Guild bounty is annoying/boring

i would like to see WvW server bounties on WvW maps. With the # of players scaling the difficulty, it should be very fun. also funny to watch a server wipe on Tarban.

i think a better idea would have been to move them to WvW, so even though you either hate wvw or guild size is an issue, at least you will be with enough people in WvW to get it done. the only competition then is the other servers.

i am trying to enjoy the bounties myself, ankittenrying to give it a fair chance. so far, no good items have dropped for me (class restricted items).
