I am getting tired of all inactive players who throws filth on these forums…

There are more and more of them and I don’t understand why they are still on these forums posting? I mean they are just trolling, they do not give any constructive feedback, they go with stuff like ‘I quit as soon as I noticed that this game didn’t give what it was announced to give’ and then they ae still on these forum giving comments to new players who asks for advice on what to do to make them like the game even more.

Most people are smart and does not listen to those trolls but some aint it can derail posts and be totaly poisonous to the community.

Can we do something against them? Can there be atleast a need to log in to game once a month to enter forums (That way trolls has to install and Update GW2 or have it installed if they wanna troll the forums)? Some other ideas or am I the only one bothered by this?

And a question; The report post button, can I use it if it is a troll post?

Discussion boards are for DISCUSSIONS. Some people want to post their opinions, even if they are negative. Why can’t you understand this? There is negativity because some people disagree with some things, just like in real life.

Don’t be sheltered and call it trolling. It is something that should be taken seriously. Most such posts voice opinions, and that can be constructive for the devs. This forums is not only for ‘constructively positive’ posts. It’s no a church where everyone meets to praise something. Deal with it.

Not sure how you know these players are inactive. The minute we start saying one person’s opinion is genuine and the other person’s opinion is trolling is where we get into trouble. We just have to deal with it.

Always write your opinion, positive or negative, with a smile on your face and a smile in your heart.

People do say they haven’t played for six months or a year. Most would consider that inactive.

Still, I’m not against those people posting. I think everyone has the right to express their opinions.

I’d like them to express them without all the hyperbole and vitriol, but that’s just me.

Because they want to get their money’s worth out of the purchase and they find the forums far more fun and entertaining than they did the game.

If they say they stopped playing a long time ago, are always negative and said in one post they only come here to engage in forum PvP then imo they are more trolling than not.

Saying in a post that you have left/are leaving and actually leaving are two different things though. I know a few people on my friends list who have said they are leaving the game, but I still see them even months afterwards!

Most people say that to catch attention. Sounds like it worked. Also, a lot of people stayed because of the community, so they lurk on the forums because they can keep in touch with their in game acquaintances. Then, there’s the obvious troll, wich I personally enjoy more than the white knights.

I could bring up a whole list of quotes from people who claims they have quit a long time ago becouse they are so frustaited with the game but they still hang around here, a few of these players that has bade these quotes also come with constructive feedback and is realy good for the game but I have seen so many more that has been just poluting the forums and luckely moderators on these forums has been deleating a few of their own original posts but when they post on others threads they do not get deleated that easy.

Edit: I am not pasting a list of quotes becouse I think it isn’t allowed in that way.

I can think of one person in particular (who I won’t name obviously) who claims to no longer play than game and hasn’t played in a long, long time. All this person does is make snide, unproductive one line remarks, or agrees with someone who has done the same. They make judgment on content they’ve never experienced.

This behavior is pretty obviously there just to get a rise out of people (and this person admitted to me that’s exactly what they enjoy).

All you can really do is ignore them and move on. I should certainly ignore more of them than I do.

One could of course question if someone that have not played for a year would be able to post constructive stuff about the current state of the game, seeing as they are clearly not up to date about what the current state of the game actually is.

People have different definitions of “leaving” a game. Rarely does someone who takes enough time to post their opinions on the game quit 100%. They are posting because they want to make the game better. They “leave” in the sense that this may no longer be their primary game, or they may only play 1/10th of what they used to. It rarely means that they don’t ever log in at all.

Just what I said but it is not those with constructive feedback I am complaining about am I, did I ever say that? Saying they leave the game and don’t… Okay, but still more or less every post they make efter that is uncunstructive and if they are constructive they compare it to the new game they recently started playing or whent back too.

Depending on the topic at hand, sure. But there are many active players that aren’t fully aware of the “current state of the game” either.

I’m just saying that blocking a group of people from posting just because they’re inactive isn’t justifiable, in my opinion.

EDIT: Also if its the inactive “trolls” that you really wish to block. How could you or ArenaNet possibly do it? All they would have to do is log in to their account for a second and technically they’re “active” again.

Umm… Well that’s what I wanted help to figure out, but with the suggestion I made was that maby some “trolls” does not wanna have the game installed just to make posts or it is to much “work” to be able to post some unessary posts and have their so called forum PvP.

Well, it doesn’t. But then, saying that the game is all sunshine and mirrors, everything is okay and there are no flaws doesn’t help either (and there are posts like that as well).

EDIT: Also if its the inactive “trolls” that you really wish to block. How could you or ArenaNet possibly do it? All they would have to do is log in to their account for a second and technically they’re “active” again.

I’m pretty sure that most of people that say they don’t play anymore do in fact log in, at least infrequently. People that are truly inactive, and yet keep posting on the forums are rare, and don’t last long. If they stay around, it’s because they still have some attachments to the game.

Actually, it does help – even if not in a direct manner.
It causes a.net to lose money from selling a copy of the game and some gem purchases, which is all that matters (“how to post positive feedback” that will be ignored, is obviously not the way to go), thus steering them in the right direction. Why? Because there are people who a: paid for the game and would like to actually enjoy it (crazy, I know) and b: they care for the universe that was created and don’t want to see it go down the drain.

Plus, as this is an mmorpg, traits and skill are actually a part of the gameplay, so warning players they may not get what they paid for is just a friendly advice.

a.net: I will not be buying gems with cash until you fix traits.

Except players who never played the game would just take it at face value. Nothing to do with anything else.

Coming from almost any other MMO, leveling in this game is fast and painless. The trait changes to heinous to some of us wouldn’t affect someone who doesn’t know the old system the same.

It’s like going into a restaurant and telling perspective customers that the pancakes used to be much better.

It’s not constructive, it’s not helpful and since they’re talking about something the new player can’t really understand (not having experienced it), they are simply turning someone off to a game they might thoroughly enjoy.

Activity, or lack of the same to varying degrees, is irrelevant. If someone posts inaccurate information point it out. People who claim to be active players make inaccurate posts quite frequently as well.

The reality of the matter is that posting rights are granted with a purchase of the game. Unless you personally are offering to pay all of those players for their game accounts you should probably just let the matter go.

So let’s say I was looking for the best local pancake house. An acquaintance recommends Billy’s Pancake Depot saying it has “the best pancakes I’ve ever had”. So I decide to go to Billy’s and upon getting there a patron who is leaving tells me “if you’re here for the pancakes be aware they changed the recipe and it’s nowhere near as good as it was.” I would consider that helpful advice since the only reason I was there was a recommendation based on outdated information. I don’t want to waste money because my info was out of date. I would gladly thank that patron for giving me new information.

That’s not trolling. That’s an opinion you don’t agree with.

In any case, there was already a thread about this at some point, regarding only allowing active players to post on the forums. Gaile mentioned how it was considered. I believe she said it really couldn’t be implemented. With this game having no sub and allowing to people to come and go as they pleased, she’s completely right. So this thread has no point sadly as the topic at hand has already been dealt with.

If someone is actually legitimately trolling (the stuff you’re complaining about isn’t), then report them. Otherwise, ignore opinions you don’t agree with.

well, I can give you a reason in my personal case. This forum ruined the game for me, completely. The incessant whining over everything, the entitlement and “everyone is special” mentality, the “game is too hard” choires and an assortment of the weirdest issues people have – instead of simply accepting a game for what it is and enjoy overcoming challenges – tarnished the joy of actually playing GW2.

I am not going to make that mistake twice as every game forum is full of today´s “adult children”. When bored, I rather look in here instead of communitites of games which I actually play currently. And enjoy the feeling of detachment as things have rather changed for the worse. And argue against the million whiny threads when I feel like it.

Except that it’s still the best pancakes for many people. This isn’t my first rodeo. You can’t tell how much someone will like or not like pancakes.

Maybe the guy tastes the pancakes and they’re the best pancakes in the world to him. But you’re telling him they used to be better. Well no. They used to be better for you. It’s not helpful and it’s not constructive. It’s misguided.

In an attempt to help someone make a decision, naysayers are taking decisions away. People who say the game is dead or dying are doing the same. It’s demonstrably untrue, but people say it anyway.

At the end of the day, saying you don’t like something is different than saying it’s bad or used to be better. And as long as people are phrasing stuff in that kind of negative manner, they’re risking turning someone off from a game they may love.

There are ways to phrase things that aren’t vitriolic outbursts of misinformation.

I would almost like to see a you must play X amount of time before posting on the forums. Of course if it were a new account you should be able to post freely. I would only put the limit on non support pages, so if you wanted to post to account/tech help then it would be fine. Also if you got forum reprimanded for some odd reason, you should have to put in X amount of time before posting again.

I really do not think someone who has not played in over a few months to have a constructive comment on the current state of the game.

In the example given a person says that they do not like a feature and answers another’s question about it to the best of their own knowledge/experience. “I dont like X,” doesnt have to be followed by suggestions on how to fix X in order to not be trolling. Its an attempt to cause anger/fishing for an argument only if you personally choose to interpret it that way.

I could just as easy decide to interpret your post as an attempt to cause anger in those who express unhappiness with aspects of the game. Would that make you a troll (note that I am not calling you such, merely posing the question in the hope that you will see your own assertions in a new light) ?

Leveling in GW is painless and fast. The same applies to getting BiS.
Leveling in GW2, let alone the BiS, are the polar opposites of ‘fast and painless’.

It’s not constructive, it’s not helpful and since they’re talking about something the new player can’t really understand (not having experienced it), they are simply turning someone off to a game they might thoroughly enjoy.

Neither is stalking every thread and spamming one’s opinion to supposedly ‘counterbalance’ other people’s (negative) opinions.

Can you find me in ten threads? I don’t think so. There are more than 10 threads. Consequently I’m not in every thread. Nor am I trying to counterbalance everyone’s opinions since there are negative opinions I never reply to. Your attempts to attack me personally only make you seem more desperate.

And yes, fast and painless. People level in under a week. That’s hard to do in most MMOs.

I never said anything about BIS gear, I have no idea why you’d suddenly bring that in and move the goalpost in the conversation.

I’ve never been a proponent of ascended gear.

Why compare two different games? Because then I could do that as well.
Leveling in GW2 is fast and painless. BiS is only needed for FoTM(high levels).
Leveling in WoW is slow and painfull. BiS, is there even such a thing?

State of the game doesn’t really change year after year, near to nothing is done by anet. The lack of new skills/real maps/new class/races/quests or generally any form of involment by anet stand today and standed 2 years ago.

Lack of real maps? Drytop and SIlverwastes are what? Immitation maps? They’re real maps to a lot of people.

And Quests? New dynamic events certainly exist and even if they didn’t, one could certainly call the living world instances quests…more like quests in the traditional sense of the word than almost anything else in the game. So there are both new quests and new zones.

I agree we don’t have new races or professions, and hardly any skills though.

Still an opinion that does not give a clue to what to be done or how to do it. An opinion made just to make someone angry with that opinion and explain another opinion (in other words, fishing for an argument = Trolling).

You’re choosing to let it make you angry. Stating one left the game over something and doesn’t find ‘x’ fun, is not fishing for an argument anymore than someone saying they love the game and find ‘x’ fun is.

Honestly, this thread could be considered trolling if we want to use your broad definitions….

Trolling implies intent. I think it’s clear this article is the expression of one’s frustration. If people are free to express their frustration with the game, why shouldn’t they be allowed to express this frustration with the forums?

leveling in this game is fast and painless.

Cute, but nope.

And nope, its neither fast nor painless. People often don’t even hit max level because the lvling process is so unnecessarily stretched out., let alone lvl up alts.

People don’t? Which people? How many people? Back up your claim?

I know people that have far more than 8 characters. My guild is filled with people leveling new alts all the time. They don’t seem to find it painful.

Of course, my annecdotal evidence is no better than your annecdotal evidence. But there do seem to be plenty of people, even now, leveling new characters.

You wouldn’t know, of course, since you don’t play.

Simple solution: don’t feed the trolls… If nobody answers their posts, even if they are completely inaccurate and misleading, then they will go away.

No one, that Ive seen, is saying that one shouldnt be allowed to express such frustrations (except perhaps for the OP himself ). What was pointed out was that by the OP’s own logic his posts could be considered trolling. The individual you quote isnt indicating that said logic should be used and seems to be making the point that it shouldnt be.

As mentioned previously, everyone should be able to post their opinions freely (so long as the post content rules are followed)pro or con, just expect to have inaccuracies or falsehoods pointed out.

Problem is really when they post their usual garbage in thread from new players.

ANet stopped thinks like the Champtrain in Queensdale because they didn’t
wanted to have a toxic environment for new players in the starter zones, but
what i see here often is very much the same … new player says hallo and maybe
we see 1-2 welcome posts and some nice tips .. and then there is already the
first one that tells them how bad the game is and that they will see it real fast.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
