Right now it feels more like begging for free gold in the map chat when trying to clear the story modes of certain dungeons of the game (hello Arah for example). This seriously affects the quality of the experience for old and new players alike.

New players find themselves locked out of finishing the story arc of the game, which shouldnt happen. No matter when you bought the game, you should be able to get from A to Z without any difficulties or constraints (not referring to the actual game difficulty but rather technical or flawed-design difficulties).

Old players should be able to re-experience the story through new characters if they desire so.

I know a designer acknowledged that this was an issue that needs to be addressed. However there hasn’t been any word on the subject since roughly two months. Has there been any progress on the issue ? Are we supposed to be keep spamming in LA and Cursed Shore, praying that 4 other people might feel indulge you for whatever reason while the gates of Arah are still open ?

We were told our time as players was valued by ANet. But being unable to, for example, finish the game’s story or fully explore the back story of Destiny’s Edge (which I remind you is the backbone of the entire plot) really contradicts that statement.

The obvious issue is that there is no motivation to complete any dungeon story more than once (or at all). I personlly have more or less fully geared up an alt doing CoE runs while having NEVER run its story mode even once. Story mode needs more incentive than “being a forever pass to explorable mode as long as one of us five did it once”.
Surely that is the sign of something gone wrong in the design of dungeons. Cannot be very nice for all those involved in crafting the story aspect of the game to know that an entire quarter of dungeon content is getting completely ignored.

I would really appreciate if someone could clarify what we players can expect to be done on this matter.

Thank you for reading.

Throw in 20-30 Tokens upon Completion once a per reset period.

I can do thirty Five-Dolyak Arm Curls.

Do you even lift, bro?

I think Arah is less of an issue since people want to complete the story. Other story modes, forget it. When you can zone into an explorable if someone in your group has done it, why bother with story? The only reason is to unlock it for yourself so you can zone in for the group.

20-30 tokens is still no incentive to me. I dont think you can increase the lure of doing story mode without decreasing the lure of explorable. Just unlock story mode for us if we have completed the dungeon on explorable.

Story mode could use some help. A dungeon token reward equal to the explorable mode per path amount would probably help a lot. This would give players 4 sixty token paths per day rather than 3. People working for dungeon equipment sets would then have a reason to run with the story mode players.

Alloy: True but whats the incentive to run explorable when you can facepwn through story? The rewards are the same. I would just run Arah story, and never ever ever touch arah explorable.

On the other hand, HoTW story path (as well as other story modes) are far worse than their Explorable cousins.

EDIT: Plus, you’d limit your Tokens per day severely: 20-30 vs. 180+Wonderous Bags

I still haven’t finished my story but I’m sure Guildies would help with Arah. I don’t know what it is about the dungeons in GW2 that makes me avoid them. In GW I used to love when the Zaishen boss was a dungeon one. Possibly it’s the billion hp’s and one hit kills thats putting me off. Thats cheap difficulty.

Like I explained, it adds 1 path per day with max tokens. Now you can save 240 tokens per day versus 180 before DR kicks in. Getting a dungeon set quicker seems like incentive enough to me. The topic at hand is how to make it easier for people to get story mode groups together. I haven’t gotten to Arah yet but if explorable is much more difficult than story maybe we can adjust the reward for story to 10 tokens.

I though some about cesmode’s comment and came up with a refinement. Any player running a story mode dungeon that they had already completed would always get 60 dungeon tokens as long as at least one member of the party had not completed story mode for that dungeon. No DR necessary because the number of players that had not completed story mode for a dungeon is not infinite. If someone wanted to farm dungeon tokens by helping people complete story mode it would at least work to the benefit of the player base. Its not like people cannot farm dungeon tokens already, “LF2M AC exp speed run”. If you think this would destroy the GW2 world economy , you are probably a Mayan.

The answer is much simpler…

Make it so you cannot run explore mode until you have completed story mode. this will make it so far more people are running the story modes, hence making more groups available !

Simples !

Well…for a bit at least. Then once most people have run them, then the problem will be the same…except intensified since new players will not be able to find sm groups AND will be locked out of em until they manage to scrape one together.

The simplest answer is to make Story Mode scale so that you can do it solo.

Story mode should be solo and likely will become so anyway.
