Just hoping it will still require some sort of player interation, unlike other MMOs where the game groups you up on its own and no player interaction is needed.

Kudos for the LFG tool Anet

I just hope it will also have an option for events, bosses and such.

Once the in game tool is launched, the website is likely to die, better or not better. Less and less people will use it, which will make it not better..even if it turns out to have been better.

I’m guessing the in game tool is harder to grief though. Anyone can post your name on the site. It’s happened to me on a few occasions.

I don’t see problem in having both. For me, I hate to type my character name on gw2lfg, and due to my memory, I can’t really minimize GW2 to start my browser, so this tool is a lifesaver for me. Let’s just hope it won’t teleport people like in WoW.

lmao I’ll take that bet.

The guy who made the website was smart, and probably made some serious bank off of the idea, but at the end of the day folks will use whatever is easiest and most convenient to get to. Oh sure, some hardcore fans of the site will likely keep at it for a while, but I can’t see your average player minimizing and browsing a third party webpage when they can just hit a hotkey and go ingame.

So yea, I’ll take that bet. I don’t see the website surviving more than a couple of weeks, tops, after the tool is released.

Agreed. This is the only game where I’ve been forced to use a third party application to do in game what every other modern MMO allows at release. :-\

I know a LFG tool will not change people and their stupid ways, but I really hope we dont see 100 people “LFG COF ZERKER PARTY, PING GEAR, WARRIO ZERKERS ONLY”

I will lose my mind.

I hope this lfg-tool will come with a serious revamp of every single dungeon in the game…. otherwise, prepare for “LFG Zerker only – Guardian/Warrior/Mesmer only” messages.

What makes you feel that the website will continue to be better than what ends up being in the game?

If we take the data mined at face value, the difference seems to be in that the site allows for additional comments and the ability to list preferences (e.g. fast group, new player, experience players only, that kind of thing) and see the "age" of a LFG entry. If we assume that development of an in-game tool was at all intelligent (lol), there should be a spot to add comments.

If that’s true, would the site still be better?
Why?

It’s entirely possible I am missing out on things I could be doing with the site, so this is an honest question.

edit: Also after looking over some entries today, I thought about the ones that pop up like, "Hey I am leaving PM me for gold and giveaways" and stuff. I suspect it won’t be possible to put up others’ character names or account names and troll folks, so that’s actually a point in favour of a game-based tool.

I think you will find the website is not as awesome as you think it is. In fact there’s about 20 threads on the elitism and trolling that is there. I could list a hundred reasons why even a poorly looking lfg tool in game would be better. gw2 dragon timer was great too, look where that went. They were good for their time, that time is pretty much in someone elses favor now. No one should have to tab out to group, period.

Edit: Lets not forget Arenanet can control the in game LFG as it is their own. So trolls and such will easily be put in place with a quick report. No fake names, no fake rewards. The lfg site isn’t monitored or moderated, so it already has that against it.

I’m hoping its fully automated. Just choose what you want to queue for, hit a button and wait for queue to pop.

Anything less is pointless as youcan just use gw2lfg.com.

Any modern MMO should have an autogroup tool in it for pve. I dont see why this is just restricted to pvp at present.

Really curious to see how they have approached this, and how it works in practice.

I’m convinced that implementing the “tool” was the easy part. The hard part is making it such that it doesn’t take the whole game in an “unhealthy” direction.

For one thing, I hope that it allows for grouping with like-minded players with similar goals. So group together people who want to do a dungeon for the experience, and group together those who want to speed-farm for the rewards.

After reading the “Why no /inspect” thread, if this turns out to be a carbon copy of how WoW’s random LFD works, then I’d anticipate a hell of a lot of /kicking and very little dungeon completion.

I just returned to GW2 and noticed we still do not have a traditional Looking For Group tool like in most MMO out there today.

This is very disappointing to see. With my playstyle I only get about 1 or 2 to play and would like to log into the game, queue up for a dungeon, run it and be done.

ArenaNet are you even considering it?

AFAIK there’s no specific dev link saying that it might be added next month (if there’s one, add me to the list of people wanting to know.. ) but the speculation comes from the fact that text related to a LFG tool was found by datamining the .dat file from the last patch, so the tool or a partial one might be there already but disabled.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

This game would be better if it had an automatic LFG tool like WoW does, but built into the game instead of third party sites.

Leveling would be much more fun, since finding groups for dungeons would be much easier.

Honestly the Hearts are boring, and crafting is no fun. So not many other ways to level that are fun other than events, WvW, and Dungeons.

Problem is, most events cant be soloed with all classes, especially now that the population dropped in most zones.

WvW you have to be on the winning side for good exp for your time. otherwise its a waste of time.

Dungeons, well hard to find groups since the way the game is designed it segregates the player base. Most people no longer want to do story mode anymore and stuff like that. pretty poor design. Hard to find groups.

a LFG would at least solve one of those issues.
