Indicators for unlocked items
I agree with the idea: the UI should make it easier to distinguish locked from unlocked in a variety of situations.
The UI already does so in the parallel situation in the bank wardrobe: the unlocked skins (that you can use) have icons that contrast nicely against the greyed icons represented locked skins. So what about reversing that, so that when browsing things to buy, locked skins (and perhaps collection items) show more distinctly than unlocked ones.
(We still need to be able to see them, since there are plenty of situations in which we are likely to buy multiple copies, e.g. dungeon gear, karma gear, …)
I dont’ know why the forum won’t let me upvote your post, Illconceived, so I’ll just write here that I really like your idea with displaying browsing items differently from unlocked items (perhaps display them in gray). Good one!

Thanks!
(I only thought of it because of your original suggestion — I can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally bought a previously-unlocked item and would love an easier way to prevent that.)
I think this would be a nice QoL feature for a features update. I’d certainly appreciate it.
I think this is a great idea, anything on the vendor UI that makes it clear would help. Even now when I go through heart vendor’s wares I can’t tell whether I already have certain skins unlocked without checking all the individual items. If crafting recipes (the ones you can buy, not discover) ever become account bound then it would work well with those items too.
Please. This should already be a feature. +1+1+1
Edit:: Also add this feature to the gem store, too! I want to know what I’ve purchased without going out.

this is the same thing as the “unique” thing.
I’d love this but as I’ve mentioned before, I think the limitation is that it would mean each time you opened a vendor panel or the TP, it would have to scan every item offered and compare it to your account’s unlocks.
Laaaaaaaag.
make it a client side check then… lag problem solved….
I think I really like this idea. Very nice QoL suggestion.
I was considering if lag would be a problem:
Corrynn’s suggestion of having a client side check to solve the problem, would only work if both your account status (i.e. what you have unlocked) AND the vendor options (locked/unlocked items being offered) are housed on the client side which I wouldn’t believe they are.
Regardless of where they are hosted I just don’t think there is that much data that needs to be compared to make it a Lag issue.
- The check would only require what is on the list at any one time; a few items for a vendor tab or one tab of the trading post. When you move to a different tab it just refreshes the data. I just don’t think there would be that many data base compare calls to make it noticeable.
I would hope ANet takes a good look at this. I personally would spend a lot more currency if I didn’t always have to go through a list of mouse overs each time I get to a vendor or open the TP.

As long as it’s either obvious what it means, or so unobtrusive as to be overlooked if you don’t know what you’re looking for.
With the influx of new players, i can just see someone perusing a merchant and thinking, “oh hey, they’ve put a tick by the items that are most useful to me!”
Edit: a circle in the corner of the icon, hollow for uncollected, filled for unlocked?
