Ineffable insignias
Or can they at least have some warning prior to crafting them that the recipes that use them require an obscene amount of ectos to complete?
What do you mean by that? The required materials are listed in the crafting window when you craft that item.

Requires over 50 Ectoplasm to complete.
The advantage is an item of slightly lower level that’s account bound with chosen stats. This is used for alt characters, but is not monetarily worth it. You are better off paying to get dungeon rewards and boosting yourself to 80 than making these items.
Yeah, the ineffable inscriptions and insignias definitely have a ‘trap’ aspect to them.
A few ectoplasm to craft that new thing that appeared in my crafting recipe list? Sure, let’s try and see what that makes me. Oh wait, now I have to cough up a lot more ectoplasm, or just thrash that thing I just spent ectoplasm on, because it’s account bound and useless.
Glad I read this here and didn’t try it out myself as I was tempted to do (I like exploration, but that sounds like a real carrot-and-stick).

Oh okay, well that’s pretty nasty.

You should probably be more careful when crafting things.
What would you suggest? Never do anything in the game until you’ve thoroughly investigated every aspect of it on the wiki?
The worst part is those weapons don’t even have unique skins, they are basically a trap for new players to waste all their money so they have to buy gems.
The fact that those recipes are the only rare or better quality inscription/insignia recipes you ever get without specifically buying them with karma, makes it feel like even more of a trap.
Inexperienced crafters may think those recipes are just how you make rare equipment.
I made a bow.
It was account bound…but salvageable.
So I did and after pumping all those mats into making it…got 2 wood in return.
Ineffable is an apt description of the ‘effs & c-bombs’ that fell from my disbelieving jaw soon after.
I’m not making another one.
The cost does seem out of place compared to their usefulness.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The cost does seem out of place compared to their usefulness.
It seems that way from practically everything you can craft in GW2.
I’ve made more from selling mats than i ever have from actually making anything which, to me anyhow, seems backwards.

For the record, I was. I was trying to make the Exalted coat and boots, since those were the only ones I still needed for the collection. I opted to make them instead of buy them, since my tailor was around 420 and I also wanted to get them to 450 at least to make bloodstone bricks and the like. I wanted to do it as cheaply as possible, so I looked at the insignias on the wiki to see exactly what used what and in what quantities.

The Ineffable Embroidered Gossamer Insignia uses fewer gossamer, spools of thread, and T6 mats. Clicking on it, the wiki currently has no further information indicating that the recipes that use this insignia require extra ectos.

If it had I never would have made it. But it’s really not the wiki’s job to stay 100% up to date on everything ever (as great as that would be), nor is it the players job to have to consult outside sources before doing anything (even though many do).
Just a warning on the insignia recipes that these are NOT standard and require extra mats, or even being able to vendor them would be a huge help. Frankly though, I’m really not sure why they’re account bound to begin with. The use the exact same tradable mats as anything else to make.

New players dont have 425 crafting profficiency. These are aimed at veteran players that want to craft them for their alts to level faster, as they lined out in the blogpost.

If that’s the case, then why so many ectos? That’s about 22 Gold per item, just from those, for an account-bound Exotic. At that point you’re better off crafting a set of Rares or standard Exotics.
Now, if the stat choices included the ‘harder’ ones like Celestial (or the ecto cost was for an ‘armor box’ set), it would be easier to swallow.

Because that gear has better stats than the standard rare and exotic, you cna choose your stat and its accounf bound after use, so you can use them on several alts.
Did I mention the infusion slot?

OK, I find the possibility of an infusion interesting (though a bit odd), but I’ve just scoured multiple searches and can’t find anything definitive about them.
Can you or someone else post a screenshot of an example item? I’m perfectly happy to sit corrected, if its not as bad as it turns out.

Yeah I looked these up on the wiki and I highly doubt anyone will craft them more than once.
If the ecto requirement wasn’t so high and the weapons could be respecced out of combat, maybe people would use them.

If they are intended for veterans, why not slash the ecto cost and instead require a component that costs X amount of Laurels?

In the past, people had no problem to spend 100-200 gold to craft level their alts.
Considering that you this gear is even account bound after use and you can use it for multiple alts over and over again, I would say that many people will pay the ecto costs to get them.

Laurels are acquired at the same rate for veterans and new players.

generally this is the best thing you can do in any aspect of existence.
The Wiki Entry didn’t exist when I blew the 50 Ecto’s on making these. :/
The only thing “Ineffable” seems to describe is the cost of making them. Account bound or no, the cost is so far out of line with the alternatives that making them is never a good idea.

I realize that. It was just a thought based on the idea of some veterans probably having a lot of them lying around.

And a veteran player who wants to level an alt faster would probably just know to sell those 50 ectos and gain 25 levels from leveling crafting up, which is both faster, more efficient, lasts longer and leaves you with something useful at the end.
There is really just no logical reason to make these except maybe sheer boredom. It’s like Anet saw another MMO where people trick out their low level characters without actually researching why they do that and completely missed the point but implemented it anyway.
