when new armor stats are introduced, there is a huge gap in difficulty obtaining them,
some armors behave just like the starters, you can unlock them via discovery, the mats are not gated by event and you don’t need recipe to make them,
others have event gated mats and you need a recipe to make the inscription, but you don’t need recipe to make the items.
and some require recipe for the insignia/inscription , then a specific recipe for each item, and then a huge amount of event gated materials.

what is the reason for this? it is also not related to the usefulness of the armor as the berzerkers is the most common starter armor….

the list:
givers: mats drop only from recurring winter event, the insignia gained automatically, the equipment obtained via discovery.

apothecary mats obtained from southsun cove map, the insignia gained automatically, the equipment obtained via discovery.

settlers mats obtained from southsun cove map, the insignia/inscription or its recipe can drop from karka queen chest. the equipment obtained via discovery.

sentinels no mats, the inscription/insignia obtained either as drop from non existing dungeon (molten facility) or by purchasing via guild commendations. but the ascended version obtainable from regular vendor
the azurite orbs for the equivalent accessories cannot be obtained anymore.

assassins use regular mats, replacing obsolete magic find mats, everything obtained via discovery.

celestial mats obtained from non recurring event or from home instance node. (each insignia requires 25 crystals, you gain 3-8 crystals from home instance node each day ~ one week for a single piece of equipment on average)
recipes drop from non -recurring event (the bazaar) but the ascended version obtainable from regular vendor.

dire no existing mats, the insignia/inscription obtained only from salvaging exotic armor from drops. but no need for recipes all the equipment obtained via discovery.
the ascended version obtainable from regular vendor.

and the finalist zealots
the insignia/inscription obtained as a rare drop form non recurring living story event, each piece of equipment require its own recipe. the mats are from non recurring event and require HUGE amount of mats for single item. you need 500 sprockets for a single item, while the home node provides you between 6 to 10 sprockets, which means it will take you on average of two months to craft a single piece of equipment!
and you cant even buy the ascended version from the vendor!

this madness has to stop….

Yah, I’ve brought this up a few times before. Stat combinations should be freely available to everyone and of roughly equal cost, not some of them being fairly easy and others being insanely costly to create / obtain. Skins and stuff, those are fine as luxury items. Stat combinations are not.

I had hope when they added Settler’s gear (which was relatively modest in both crafting and aquisition) that they’d finally learned. But then Zealot’s happened, and… yah. Zealot’s is terrible. The cost to craft the items is insane, the cost to buy all the recipes to even be able to craft them is insane ESPECIALLY if you go for Ascended, and they’re account-bound on top of all that (not that making them sellable would help much, but still).

yes, there is so much outrage on small trivial stuff, but the major issues are silent….

They’re silent due to being screamed and screamed and screamed and nothing ever being answered or happening except maybe a “tell us 3 things…” so we see these threads and go “oh, that again”.

Trivial stuff matters to trivial minds, I guess. I’m partly guilty of that as well because I’d never paid close attention to what stat combinations were out there. Especially as they add new ones with events that I see… nobody care about. I didn’t even realize how difficult/impossible they were to make now.

Thats really messed up. I’d hope ANet was smart enough to also notice this and be able to fix it without punishing the playerbase somehow, but their ideas at solving it would be to just add the required stuff as a “rare chance” to stuff like Teq chest or something.

Thats another reason why people may not speak in this thread. This issue is something that matters but people can’t get ANet to stop being idiots about non-important issues, so what chance is there that they (ANet) will come around on something actually significant? Not much, I’m afraid.

I do care. I just don’t feel there is anything I can do about it.

The reason behind it is that most stats you’re talking about are useless in PvE, and are free to obtain in PvP.

In PvE we have the following stats:

  • Berserker’s.
  • Soldier’s (PVT) and/or Knight’s and/or Valkyrie mixes for those who’re not safe in Berserker’s or who’re doing a lot of WvW.

Everything else is an illusion of choice which new players have until they’ve played enough to see that condition damage is not viable in PvE and healing scales horribly and is not really needed anyway because the best healing is a dead monster.

So the stats you listed are mostly useless (celestial were ok for eles and engis but not so much after the ferocity nerf), so (next to) nobody cares if they exist or not in the first place.

20 level 80s and counting.

well, it is a mess for sure, but the thing is: Most of these stat combinations are really unappealing so barely anyone cares.

Sure there are discrepancies.

In regards to your sprockets comment and having to grind 2months per piece: you do realize you can buy as many as you need on the TP, right? Unless they made sprockets account bound at some point, but pretty sure they aren’t.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

In the first place, having 20-odd different stat combos represents a huge glut that was mostly a waste of time. Even in PvP, I’d bet that many of the combinations are under-utilized. And in PvE, well. Lishtenbird is spot on.

I’ve stopped caring about this sort of thing about 2 months ago. Instead of fixing existing problems of this type they keep adding more instead. The only way to interpret that is ArenaNet intends to keep it that way.
