Infinite Salvage for Achievement Points-Gone!
the guy with 20,xxx achievement points now has 5,1xx LOL!
I was gonna make my own topic about this but thanks for starting one.
I saw a guy with 14k achievement points the other day and was wondering if this change would affect him and take away all his achievement points.
Let’s hope so! I had 290 legitimate (Salvaged only what I looted) points. They were reduced to 250 after patch. =D I did lose the points from my grand total as well.
Hearte you can’t have infinite from the dailies and monthlies like you could from the unlimited ones, those are fine :p
This was never even remotely a concern or peeve of mine. I really couldn’t care less how many achievement points someone else has or how they got them.
Feel bad for people who spent tons of money specifically to do that.
The problem with the daily/monthly counting is that eventually, that’s all that will matter. Just doing the daily (9), PvP daily (4), monthly (40) and PvP monthly (7) is worth 5309 points a year. A player that starts the game late will have a very hard time catching up and even if they 100% the game and do every achievement available, they might not catch up to someone who has done 0% of the game, but has always completed the dailies.
It doesn’t really matter though since certain things like the living story give achievements but won’t be around forever. Content like this, especially when you’re made aware of it, can be a turn off to new players, especially completionists.

The guy who probably has the most, went from 35661 to 6549.

Mass salvaging is a break-even business. At least if you do it right. The only thing it cost those people was time.

Exactly.
Pretty much what Celtic Lady said…
No one can truly speak for anyone else either. We can only speak for ourselves as to what we enjoy or don’t enjoy – or make suggestions on what we would like to see/fix to enhance our enjoyment. Or what in this game turns us off and hopefully offer suggestions or possible solutions. None of us can truly make general statements regarding what the general population wants.
Personally I don’t see content like the living story (temporary or no) as a turnoff nor would it ever deter me from playing. There is so much here to offer so many different types of tastes I would hope others would see the things they want to get out of this game and want to play it. I tend to ride the flow and enjoy the ride, even with its ups and downs and any glitches.
Catching up has never ever occurred to me and what person(s) would I even care that I was catching up to? I achieve to my own standard and am quite pleased with the limits I have stretched for myself, not what others have done or will do. I think the game is designed for the player to please themselves in what they have striven to achieve.
While I would agree that randomly just salvaging junk for tons of points is pretty dumb and it’s nice to see that being stopped, I think the larger issue is anyone caring about anyone else’s achievement points.
I’m more impressed by the folks who know how to play the game, are friendly to others, offer help when they can, joke around in map chat, organize groups in wub-wub, and come up with cool looking armor and weapon combos for their character designs. As far as I care, they could have 0 achievement points.
edit: Except I guess once they have leaderboards public points will actually have some bearing, so that’s just all the more reason to be happy that they are doing things like what the OP has mentioned in this thread. So kudos.

I should have attached a disclaimer, warning that this thread is meant for achievement aficionados. There are plenty of us. Anyone could step into any number of threads and say “I don’t care about this.” Then, magically, nothing would be added to the discussion. The spirit of this thread is about keeping fair, proper, and friendly competitiveness in place for achievements; ANet took a big step in this regard today.
