Right now I’m at 10/11 achievements towards completion, with only ‘Finders Keepers’ left. Problem is, this achievement is taking FOREVER to get, since I have to sit around… and wait… for donations… so the event can start… so the dolyak can hopefully drop 3 presents at most per event. It’d be nice if the infinite achievements could count once towards the overall achievement completion, just so I’m not suck having to wait around forever this stupid quest to start. Hopefully consider this for future achievement lists?

Yeah, this is a good point. It was very easy to get the first few days, when everyone was donating for those achievements, but after that, the flow of donations pretty much just stops. It’s hardly fair that the few players trying to get it later on should have to pay for all the donations on their own.

I don’t know about whether the infinite achievements should count, but Finders Keepers should be reworked somehow, or replaced with something else.

Just donate those few gold by yourself.

Also keep in mind that the dolyak has diminishing returns, the first defend event in a given day nets me 8 gifts, but any subsequent runs have significantly fewer. You’re better off trying to catch it over a few days than all in one go. If you can I’d also suggest trying to do this around reset as a lot of players will donate at that time for the wintersday daily achieve.

I believe it is random, I havent noticed any drop off when doing it several times a day. Or maybe that was fixed because I only did the event in the first 24 hours.

I remember when meta achievements actually offered choices. Those were the days.

This is the first wintersday achievement I did, because I knew the longer I waited, the fewer people would be needing it, and thus the longer it would take to do. It’s unfortunate for you that you weren’t playing when wintersday came out though. Perhaps you should just find some like minded people and pop the dolyaks yourselves?

As for choices, I don’t really think it matters much so long as you plan ahead. I personally took about four hours total to complete the meta achievement, and that’s just because I’m not particularly great at the choir bells.

Bleh. I’m one who came late to this whole thing a couple weeks back over my xmas holiday break. All other 10 events were a cakewalk compared to this finders keepers crapfest. For example, I’ve waited & waited patiently today, up to 2 hrs at a time, & only caught the event once. Twice it had just finished when I got back from whatever else I was doing. Total balls up with the design ANet.

So how many gold does it take to get Ho-Ho’s dolyak moving? Even though I’ve been at it since beta, I’ve only ever had around the 40 gold I have now & never seem to be able to increase to much beyond 50, eh.

Just found it takes almost 10Gs to trigger the event yourself. If only I was rich…sigh

you should have done it the first days… the dolyak was walking nonstop and people paid the ho-ho-tron together in a second…

Hope you learned for the future: Always get open world achievements done as soon as possible, they only get harder if hype dies down.

log in at prime time. go to dolyak. stand down guild, drop party. log to char select and back til you find a high progress donation. get presents. rinse. repeat. whole thing takes maybe 30 minutes if your luck is bad.
