Equipment progression is widely rejected in this game, with both developers and players speaking out against it. So why then is infusion progression accepted? It shares many of the same problems as equipment progression, yet is seemingly something the developers are going to continue with.

With the release of infusions they made clear that they intended for infusions to be a continuing form of progression. There are game codes showing +7 stat infusions, indicating that they have been considering it. With the upcoming expansion they mentioned adding stronger infusions to the game.

Furthermore, they have shown interest in creating infusions tailored to different areas of the game, not just fractals, as seen with WvW infusions. Given the price of ascended gear and cost of changing out infusions (250 gems per item via upgrade extractor) players must choose a single area of the game they want their equipment to be built for and stick with it.

This is something that needs to be addressed. Why should I spend ~1,000 gold for a set of the best infusions when they will become obsolete as soon as better ones are released? Why is it so expensive to change infusions (250 gems for an upgrade extractor per item)?

Really wondering about this as well.
If it’s added stats to what already exists that will really suck. If it’s making them more effective via the mastery that would be ok.
Annoying but neat would be the ability to merge them together, +5 power +5 agony resist +wvw stat. Even better would be merging in special effects such as the Poly glows.

Plus what would be required to make any new infusions? The old one plus some relatively cheap parts or some more silly grind?

If it gets worse, like +7 infusions next patch, and +10 ones the next patch, and +15 ones the next one, and so on, then it will be a problem like you say. I cant imagine them doing that for anything other than agony resistance though.

Also youre doing something wrong if you spend 1000 gold on infusions in the current game. You get either the +5 ar ones you buy with fractal relics or the wvw ones with laurels depending on which game mode you do, neither cost gold. I guess if you want both youd need 2 sets of armor which would be a lot of gold, but then youd need 2 sets of armor anyways since both game modes need different stats.

Cheaper upgrade extractors would be sweet too but i wouldnt cross my fingers for them, the best you could hope for is waiting for them to go on sale and then buy them.
