ArenaNet Communications Manager
A few threads have been created giving input on the roll-back that took place yesterday. I have merged them into this thread.
I want to let you know that nearly all reversals and replacements have been made. The CS Team did this in a matter of hours, and given the nature of this situation, that’s pretty impressive! If you have questions about your account, please submit a ticket or update your ticket. However, do check your account before doing so because the vast majority of players have been taken care of and are good to go.
Thanks.

This rollback has cost a lot of players a lot of progress. So, take an moment to tell ANet what you lost to the rollback.
I lost over 600 gold worth of drops and sales on the TP, about 100 AP worth of progress on achievements, and nearly full stacks of platinum and hard wood that I harvested. I also lost 2 1/2 hours of gameplay and a full afternoon and evening of denied gameplay that I can NEVER get back. This had to happen on one of my very rare vacation days, turning what should have been a fun day into a severe disappointment.
So..what do you want? just keep things the way they were and so alot of other people get pooped over? I lost nothing thankfully.
3 Mastery points.. but that i can do again.
On my wife char only bloodstone greatsword.
Just hope she can buy it again for the same price.
So no big deals here =]
A girlfriend, so if someone could reimburse me, that would be great.
I haven’t checked, but I’m pretty sure I lost nothing. all I did after the patch was look at new things that were added and take some screenies.
@OP
I’m sad for your lost, but its for greater good.
that’s a lot of stuff to do in 2 and a half hours…. impressive lol. I lost my daily rewards so nothing too major. Being a long time MMO player im still wary of doing anything significant on patch days. Kudos to Anet for spotting the issue so quickly and fixing it before it got out of control.
Sorry that you were so unlucky but i had a great time on GW1 myself. Was nice to see the game populated again for a few hours.
I don’t want to be “that” guy, but I am suspicious of how successful the OP seems to have been during a little over 2 hours of play.
They stated if you got something like a precursor to contact customer service…beyond that, not sure what else they will “help” with.
Haven’t checked, but the most I could lose would be close to 350ish flax I gathered. If I lose that. Cos there’s that golden rule… Don’t play on Patch Day
Well, atm I’m dcing every few mins so I’m losing everything I do as it rolls back every time you log in.
Not good!
I lost an ascended chest piece, and a few mats, but those don’t matter much.
nothing special, just a Colossus (prec).
i know i wont get it back but at least i know sometimes i get lucky then instantly unlucky.
I lost a Unranked Arena Games Played +1 count :P

Contact support. They are doing their best to restore precursors
Fortunately I did not play during the time that was rolled back, but I know it must be frustrating for those who did. People who played for the full 2+ hours probably feel like they wasted all that time, but think of it this way: If you were having fun, did you really waste any time?
During the downtime, I realized that the game is not about the achievements and gold that we end up with. It’s about the enjoyment that we get out of playing, and the time we spend with our friends, regardless of the pixel rewards that we earn. Your character may be rolled back, but that doesn’t take the experience away.
Props to anet for handling the situation as best as they could, and keeping the community updated throughout the day.
Bought 200g dye I didn’t like, they rerolled it. Good.
Thread seems very ungrateful.
For a game that has been out since 2012 we have seen basically no outages.
My friends list is in a different order than normal and it’s actually bugging me a bit. Previously my friends list had been sorted by the order I friended people in, now it all seems to be jumbled. Not a big deal though.
Lost nothing, it was always my sleeping time unless i can’t sleep, lucky me.

can only say BS to the above.
I only lost 13 gold… The amount I farmed after the main patch. -shrug-
Lost over 30 gold of trading and 2 hours.
Logged in this afternoon, all the progress from that character shift to final log out last night is gone. That’s a new skin from the mystic forge, a bunch of gear, at least 4 gold, half a map worth of completion and 4 event chains including a world boss which have disappeared. O, and a boatload of crafting mat’s I had been grinding for, along with whatever was waiting at the black lion for pick up.
It might sound like small change to you guys, but I hate the grind, so it’s a fair effort to me (also, I really liked the ogre mace skin from the mystic toilet, it was going to look rad on my rev).
Diamond Division
just reached ~1-2h after patch
I lost a Unranked Arena Games Played +1 count :P
shoot! lost another one. does it count as ‘lost’ if you do the exact same thing as before it was rolled back?
I was so disappointed that I lost the opportunity to buy the bag slots at 50% off. Been saving gold like mad. Tried logging in before work but couldn’t as it was during the maintenance. Just managed to get enough gems but the sale was over by the time I could log in after work. I thought I had time as they did not have the usual countdown timer for that sale yet. Just hope the sale comes back sometime in the future.
Considering any character used after the failed patch became corrupted…I lost nothing. I regained the use of my main character which is far greater than anything I could have farmed/achieved in that 2 hour stretch.
I lost about 5 losses in ranked PVP
kitten YOU ANET… oh wait
Seems to be a lot for 2 and half hours play time, seriously?
Nothing. Not my play time.

As the title states, I am severely disappointed about the response of the Rollback. I do not normally post threads, but I thought this issue important enough to. I’ve played many games in my time and usually there is some compensation more than “Sorry, we made a mistake. You have to replay 2.5 hours after a forced 8.5 hour intermission”. And even though some may call it “greedy”, I’m inclined to disagree since it is merely data, which they can create from nothing (Well except a little man power, but I guarantee the financial losses at no response exceeds that man power).
I’m not asking for compensation that may compete with their monetary exchanges (I.E. Gems), but at least a few gold or perhaps even a joking title like “Disconnected Hero” that could be worn (or an extension of 30 more seconds on Shooting Gallery in Verdant Brink, haha). I’ve spent quite a great deal of money with their company, and this response has greatly hurt their reputation with me. Needless to say I will be steering my wallet clear of this game moving forward, and will possibly take a long hiatus (as fun as this game has been to me the past few months).
Also, the cause of the rollback is extremely ludicrous to me. It’s about “Soulbound gear”…I don’t mind Account Bound gear, but what part of gameplay could possibly be hurt by allowing gear you already possess to be moved to another character? If anything, they should’ve fixed it by just ditching the soulbound idea altogether (which didn’t even affect me, because I only use Account bound Ascended).
Anyway, I assume I’m going to get a lot of flak for even recommending compensation (probably being called “entitled”), but the fact of the matter is it’s my money and I’d rather spend it with a business that has a better response. The situation really is a shame.
EDIT: Gotta say, the amount of people that are ok with that large of a loss in time is kinda staggering. It’s just data to them which is free (Well other than manpower and storage, but that’s fairly cheap in regards to the product), so not sure why all the hate on asking for compensation. It’s not like I’m asking they release the entire LS3 or give me a legendary. And I’m not a fan of using loaded phrases to try to incite a response from me, but hey, really reminds me who the playerbase is. #classy, guys

One mistake in 4 years, yup, time to complain on the forums for more gold.
What would you have them do? The database was broken; it could not be fixed. Rollback was the only solution to bringing back them game within 24 hours. The alternative would have been to individually repair each account.
No one lost more than 2 hours worth of progress and everyone lost exactly the same slice of time.
Seems to me that they made the least bad choice they could out of all the possible horrid options.
One mistake in 4 years, yup, time to complain on the forums for more gold.
The issue isn’t the mistake, the issue is the response. If you buy a defective product from the store, stores have return policies these days. Your response was pretty much what I expected to be on this thread, but keep in mind next time you return a defective item you’re essentially the same as me. “One defective purchase in 4 years, better complain and get my money back”. Any new businesses that open up have to mimic other stores’ polices to stay relevant, and I’d assume video games should follow suite.
There may be compensation yet. Those decisions don’t happen in a day. One would think that ANet was pretty busy today, and all hands on deck. What compensation may or may not come will be decided in the days to come.
Anet isn’t going to start making snap decisions at this point in its life.
The entire time I’ve played GW and GW2 there has never been an issue like this. They have no experience in situations like this.
I’d say they handled it pretty kitten well with that in mind. Good job Anet!
Plus they even offer to help you in case you have extreme losses like precursor drops, and maybe even what the OP lost. Just contact them… they rarely get mail sarcasm
Since they had to roll back they may have no way to tell now who logged in during that time and who didn’t. If they don’t know, how are they supposed to compensate those who did log in? There are about 7 million accounts. They can’t give stuff to them all in order to compensate the ones that did log on.
What did I lose?
Faith in the playerbase…well, some of the playerbase, anyway. =(
If any I’d rather prefer titles likes
“Time Rewinder” / “Insane Mesmer” for the lost play time
“King of the Corruption”
“D-OWN 8H” golem title to remember how long the game was down
“Breaking Bank” / “Soul Destroyer” in honor of the original soulbound anomaly / unfixable when moved to bank, with which the issue was originally discovered
:P
But really, there is no need for this. I would’ve liked some slightly cheaper gem offer (maybe in combination for the anniversary items) if at all.

Can you keep this kind of efficiency up normally or did it all happen to focus just into those two hours? I mean.. that’s extremely impressive!
We had 4 years of mainly uptime with 2 intermissions,
Most games go offline for a couple of hourse weekly, biweekly or monthly.
I guess you have gotten spoiled, by having this amount of luxury and padding here at A-Net
I agree this doesn’t cover bugs and the occasional disabled event, but still bugs and temp diables happen at any other company.
Anyway, I assume I’m going to get a lot of flak for even recommending compensation (probably being called “entitled”), but the fact of the matter is it’s my money and I’d rather spend it with a business that has a better response. The situation really is a shame.
I disagree with you. I think the situation is not a shame and I think that the several responses of Mike O’Brian over the last hours are an example of good communication.
The world does not end when you could not play the gamy for 8 hours or when you loose the progress of 2.5 hours gameplay. And for players in “extreme situations” (like a dropped pre-cursor in that time, that is now gone) A-Net offered help to restore/fix that.
Thats why I do not demand anything as “compensation”.
However, if A-Net would send me an in-game email like “We are sorry about the inconvenience and as a little present to make you happy here is a BLC-Ticket (or something else)” … I would happily accept it.
And then the roll back was just covering 2 hours. Of course that’s a pretty relative statement since you could’ve done the most unique important things in these 2 hours or just lamely complete a map which you can simply repeat. But if it was important, you can still try to contact support, they even offered it to you.
I mean, I remember a company which shall remain unnamed which had to roll back a frigging week.
Maybe the early 4th birthday presents are our compensation. Nice backpack and hey! Shadow Abyss for free!
Your response was pretty much what I expected to be on this thread
Good it means somewhere deep down you know you paid 50 dollars for a product you’ve played for 4 years and are now complaining that they’ve made a single mistake. At least you know you’re ridiculous.
(edited by Moderator)
The response was fine. They kept people up to date. In all the years playing Ive seen maybe 2 (including this one)? long down times due to this sort of thing. I lost 5 hours of play time 4 levels and an entire map clear. People lost precursor weapons and didnt ask for compensation. Just said “man that sucks” and moved on.
You lost 2.5 hours. While your time may be valuable they owe you nothing. You pay good money to play a stable game that has a mess up once in a great while. The amount of play time and fun you’ve had playing more then makes up for the money you’ve spent I would assume.
Time to move on. Its a loss. If they were going to do something I suppose they could give everyone a free celebration booster 24 hours 100% XP an 100% Magic Find I suppose but they don’t even need to do that honestly.
The rollback was a lot more then 2 hours. lol.

Exactly my thoughts. 600 g I earn in months.
What I lost? About 5 minutes of walking in circles while talking in guild-chat. Many of us are long enough here to know that any kind of update comes with a bug-fix just a few hours later. That bugfix comes with another quick bugfix, just a few minutes later. I did not predict the rollback though. But I’ve made it a personal habit, not to start anything important the same night of an update. Call me a coward if you want.
I do agree with those who say the rollback was the best solution to the problem. Although I did not expect ANet to have the guts to do it. Good job!
EDIT: Just went through my inventory/banks to realize I’ve lost my matilds weapon crate from fractals. When the announcement about the new build came, we were at the boss of the snowblind fractal. Well. You win some, you lose some. Life goes on ^^.
(edited by HnRkLnXqZ.1870)
OP they said in the announcement that if you lost something extraordinary you can contact support and perhaps be reimbursed. It sounds like you had some stuff in the works already and “lost” it getting sold on the TP or something and it will sell now for the same price and you just want some attention, but if that’s not the case, hit them up.
