If Anet is going to let this kind of insider trading continue then they should consider locking all sales on the TP until patches go live.

I shouldn’t need to “know someone” in order to get collections done.

Insider traders: get karma converter for ~300g

Not insider traders: now costs >1000g

For those who don’t know, guides to all collections and what you need were posted last night by people who had “special access” to the patch. All the items used for collections have since been bought out and relisted for 100x the price.

There is probably legitimate concern due to the previews that have been posted on youtube over the last couple of days. WoodenPotatoes has done 2. Someone else has done 1 that I’ve seen, and there’s a 3 part preview in German. Some of which cover the various collections, their requirements, and their rewards in some detail.

Edit: I’m curious about the guides though. I haven’t seen those.

I guess the major profiteers are insiders, instead of people who quickly login, but it’s still BS.

Maybe anet can leak false information next time to put an end o this practice.

This. There is a large amount of TP speculation before ANY patch, based simply on the general announcements (as opposed to the official patfh notes) of what each patch is going to change. Last week there was a HUGE amount of speculation-driven price swings with minis, and those were all based on an announcement that minis would have to be destroyed to unlock them in the wardrobe (and thus work towards the new mini achivement). Everyone also knew that some of the new collection achievements were going to be related to gear skin unlocks, so that has caused people to speculate on the prices of a lot of crafting materials.

Yes, there are always speculators, and that always causes economic…issues, right before any patch. But from what people have seen with the previews, they’ll have known exactly what needs to be farmed for the various achievement for the last 24 hours or so, and can cash in by hiking up the TP prices for those items.

Still, I plan on cashing in on the 2 chaos weapons I purchased. Was the entire point of farming tickets for them to begin with.

I agree with that assessment, but I think that’s more what Zudet is referring to… rather than to the people that actually had the preview access manipulating the market, or sharing with a few close friends to manipulate the market.

Still, not everyone thinks to look for guides, or to check youtube for previews like this, and as such they ‘miss out’ on certain things.

Insider trading would be not telling anyone. Making the information public is not insider anymore.

I agree however that I should not have to watch a gazillion potential sites etc for upcoming guides and info.

Alas for me it makes no difference for me really, the patch will come out, I’m at work and by the time I’m in game the frenzy is usually over already anyways.

How about these http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24738. You see a little speculation fluctuation on sunday into monday and then a sudden jump on monday afternoon between 2-3pm from 70s (up from 6s from the speculation likely) to 9g. in an hour. Someone or a couple people found out about something. This was 7-8 hours before the first comment on the dulfy post about collections (I couldnt find a time stamp on the post itself, but I would be pretty sure that it didnt take the 7 hours for the first comment on that site). To me, it sounds like this was just shortly after Anet released preview notes to bloggers, some people acted on the info, and then posted their explanations of the release notes. (not saying dulfy did this specifically just using that as point of reference.) I used this particular item because the items you need this rune for (it appears) are being introduced with this patch.

Part of me kinda wishes they would. I don’t have anything against people trying to make money, but buying stuff up just to hike up the price because they know that demand is about to skyrocket is a selfish practice.

I don’t think Azrael’s talking about this instance specifically but the TP players in general.

How they spend so much time predicting what will go up and down and buying and selling accordingly. If they put that effort into the actual Stock Market and had enough starting cash, they could make a real fortune.

Insider Trading in the real stock market is illegal, like very illegal, like so illegal that you can potentially be locked up for several consecutive lifetimes.

Also, most of this Insider trading goes on several days before the Speculation starts to get out of control. The Commissar’s Manifesto for example, jumped to 200 gold on September 3rd, and 300 gold on September 5th, signifying that all available supply was bought up, but, not everyone knew what was happening exactly.. The Speculation didn’t make the sell listings as high as 800 gold until this morning when all these articles came out.

That clearly shows that insider trading was going on long before the larger player population knew what was going on, and the fact that nothing is being done about it, the fact that it seems to be encouraged, just makes me even less excited for the Feature pack.

On topic: The market manipulation by insiders stinks. They should do a complete purge of the alpha team and start over with a good NDA and the next team knowing kitten well that if one of them pulls this jive the whole team will be purged, again. Harsh, but having a few people totally up-end the economy every patch is worse.

The information should of been released to everyone by anet at the same time.

Not just to a select few who could preview the patch.

Yes they shared the info with all and made guides ect but I bet most of the prices had shot up by the time any of the info was published online to see. As that guy said the first comment on the dulfy guide was made 14 hours ago but most collectables needed were bought out 24 hours ago (probably about the same time the patch went live for the select few with early access seeing as the servers are about to go down for patch now)

But now, the couple dozen people that benefit from the information, are the same couple dozen people that got the information first, and are the same couple dozen people that benefited from the same insider trading that occurred just before every other release in this game, because they are the same couple dozen people Anet gives the information to first.

That’s an unfair system and needs to change. Everyone should get the information at the same time. I don’t care that people like Bogotter, Dulfy, and Woodenpotatoes, etc. have guides to make. They can make those guides after the release, just like everyone else.

After watching WoodenPotatoes video yesterday, I specifically looked at one of the items he had mentioned wil be used for collections (that I knew I had one of), the exotic version of Ulgoth’s Tail.

Prior to September 8th they were selling for, at most, 5 gold.

After his video was released, every single one of them on the TP was bought and prices spiked at 225 gold. Even the “Buy Order” price is fluctuating between 30-50 gold (and there are dozens of Buy Orders at that price).

I can only imagine that all the other items specifically shown in his video are doing the exact same thing. I wouldn’t call that speculating, but honestly there’s not much that can be done about it unless they were to do something that other MMOs do and have a Private Test Server that anyone can use that will be used to test upcoming patches (and thus, everyone has access to the same “insider” type information at the same time).

It’s not about the people making money – that’s fine, and I couldn’t care less how much gold someone else makes – but these people having a headstart on knowing what’s coming, and therefore saving thousands of gold by being able to buy everything needed prior to patch day definitely creates an uneven playing field.

Once the economy balances out? The economy almost never balances out after one of these changes, and the inside traders that took advantage are still the ones who benefit the most, and the earliest. I don’t want to wait six months to get this achievement when I could have gotten it today.

And its one thing for the economy to get thrown out of whack after the patch hits, but for it to happen a full week before most of us even have information on it? That’s a little beyond the limit of unacceptable!

You dont have to know any ‘’insider trader’’ , you just have to follow the Duffy …
Just like the the boxes sold from china , goes to ’’royalties’’ not to the ’’revenues’’

Insider trading is kind of unfair....

Anet should’ve made these items soulbound on acquire. This would’ve prevented all of this.

No, no no and no. Breath of Kralkatorikk (an item from a collection) should not be soulbound on acquire, and neither should the other exotic components. Once the economy balances out, we’ll be glad we can buy the items.

Once the economy balances out? The economy almost never balances out after one of these changes, and the inside traders that took advantage are still the ones who benefit the most, and the earliest. I don’t want to wait six months to get this achievement when I could have gotten it today.

“Balances out” does not mean that it will go back to the old price. Would you rather they be soulbound? How does that benefit anyone? I’m totally against ANet putting info like this up before the patch, but congrats on defeating your strawman.
