I briefly played during the core GW2 beta and only 1-2 weeks after release before quitting. I gave the game a second chance 2-3 weeks ago and am enjoying it so far. I mostly prefer PvP (rank 48) and got 3 characters to lvl 80. I think that I prefer my Necro a bit and I got a box that allowed me to pick any ascended piece of armor. I picked the chest piece (some people told me that light chest piece was the most expansive one to craft). The only issue is that the stats are Celestial.

I’ve been told that I can change the stats at the Mystic Forge (I never used it). I looked up GW2 Wiki, I can easily buy the component with shards and I have more than 5 globes of ectoplasm but I’m missing the Insignia. It isn’t very clear to me. Do I need to have an ascended quality Berserker Insignia or can a lower quality one work?

If I do need the ascended quality one, it seems to cost 57g on the Trade Post. I haven’t messed with crafting yet and I have tons and tons of materials (especially lvl 80) from the various classes at different levels that I’ve played in PvP (I have over 1.1k of an ascended material that is account bound). Would I be able to use my mats and save a lot of money by crafting it myself or will I most likely still have to end up paying a lot of money to make it (on top of going through the trouble of lvling the crafting to 500)?

I just really hate crafting but at the same time, my bank is full with these mats, I need to make room and it’d be better for my wallet if I were to craft it than go with the easy solution buying gems to turn it into gold. Any tips are welcome.

Ah, I just assumed that I needed ascended one for ascended gear but you might be right. Only 6g, I’ll get that for now and lvl crafting after the Beta weekend to make sure what class I’m set on (I like Guardian, Warrior, Thief and Necro most ATM so I don’t want to level something to 500 and then realize that I should have leveled a different profession instead).

Ok, thanks for the replies, I did it and it worked. Is it normal though that my stats on my Ascended Chest are lower than the ones on my Ascended Amulet? At lvl 80 exotic, the chest has more stats than the amulet does.

If you’re gonna start crafting ascended gear, you should know that it’s better to have the weapons first because they are cheaper to make and the boost is higher from having both the flat +5% damage increase and stats vs just added stats on the armor.

But if you want to be prepared in time for HoT; fractals and what not, I suggest you also level at least one armor discipline to 450 and start making Bolt of Damask. Because, unless you have a lot of gold to simply buy off the TP, you have to consider that the main materials for ascended gear are stuffed behind a daily time-gate. You can use guides at http://gw2crafts.net/ that are easy to follow and not that expensive.

That’s normal. It’s because Ascended trinkets (such as the amulet) only have one set of stats, where exotics have stats for the amulet AND for the upgrade in it. If you look at exotics again, you’ll see that a chest piece (with no rune) gives less stat bonuses than an amulet with the corresponding jewel upgrade in it.

That’s because the ascended amulet has the stats for the ascended jewel upgrade already added in (originally it was easier to see, as the base and upgrade stats were separated on the item info window).
