I’m an avid StarCraft II player who recently inherited an GW2 account from a friend and started playing. I started PvPing and noticed many references to SCII. For example zerg bunker among others. Does anyone know how this occurred?

Never played those games but possibly due to similarities. Zerg is a large group of players, bunker refers to defensive oriented player/gear & build setup or a wvw structure that is sieged up

It is against the ToS to ‘inherit’ a game account from another, so you might not want to broadcast the fact you have.

I’ve heard the terms ‘bunker’ and ‘zerg’ many places; I have no idea if they originated with SCII. I’m sure you could wiki or google them to find the origin.

StarCraft is something of a cultural phenomenon (at least in gaming circles). The terms became wide spread.

As you can see, it’s pretty well known and spread to lots of places, not just GW2.

I’d say the reference is to SC, not SCII. As far as I’m aware these terms have been around well before SCII, not necessarily in this game but in MMOs/online games – Starcraft was a pretty big influence on early gaming, at least in my entourage, so words & references to it are easily understood, then just get integrated through osmosis by people who haven’t actually played it.

(that said I’m not 100% sure ‘bunker’ is a SC term – it’s fairly generic & descriptive of its function so it could very well have popped up on its own)

Bunker is a general term.

Zerg definitely is a product of the old StarCraft days. Large group = zerg.

However the zerg term is common in many online cases. A large influx of user to a specific website is also referred to as zerging.
