Interested in two clases.
there are sure class is good or bad..
all the class are great, fun, all depends on build.
i had been played this game since release. i got 13 character in 80s included all class.
as a new player you may consider guardian to start with.
as new players u need:
easy to lvl, welcome in dungeon.
guardian is the most welcome class in dungeon play. specially u dont know the game well.
thief and warrior is more like dps class. and as a beginner you wont have much dps without using extic armor and weapon
It doesn’t matter about power or OP-ness. It depends on how you like to play. Thief is very hit-and-run, with lots of evades, backstabs and shadowsteps, and Warrior is more in-your-face with lots of hard-hitting skills and pure proactive defenses. Try them both out for a period of time (after all, you do have five slots) and pick your favorite!
I would suggest, too, making a character and going to the PvP lobby. In there are NPCs you can practice fighting to get a feel for your class. Perfect place to try a class out if you don’t want to level up a bunch.

If you’re going to do everything then I advice to roll warrior cause that is the only class in this game that is literally good at everything the game has to offer. Thief is great too but has a higher learning curve and they’re near useless in huge WvW group fights.
Want to do quick map exploration in PvE? Warriors got you covered.
Want to do a dungeon fast and easy? Warrior has you covered.
Want to be a good solo-roamer in WvW? Warrior has you covered.
Want to be part of the giant group fights in WvW? Warrior has you covered.
Want to be a great asset to your team in PvP with minimal effort? Warrior has you covered.
Want to be good at dealing damage? Warrior has you covered.
Want to be a great tank/bunker? Warrior has you covered.
Want to support your team? Warrior has you covered.
There is literally nothing in this game were a warrior isn’t a good choice. Warrior is great at everything and you don’t even need to be really good at the game to excel as a warrior.
Are thiefs really near useless in WvW? :/ I mean, I just made a thief and seems ok but I’m not sure about the whole stealth thing if I’ll be good at it but when I play LoL I like the burst champions so I thought this might be the same. Currently at lv 7 and I enjoyed thief a bit (even tho I have no interesting skills yet besides heartseeker). Ill try warrior later on.
Why not just make one of each and find out for yourself which you prefer?
They are both good
I suggest you try it on War get the game basics and in time go and try thief
pros for War as 1st class:
hevy armor, easy to learn, always good to have in party, even 2 or 3 wars in a party is fine by most pugs.
coins a bit boring in pve-dungeons.
pros for thief as 1st
You will learn to dodge! you will look for animations in combat for active protection- blind interupts, stelt and so on
coins
there is no need for 2nd thief in a party
you will die alot and m/be get frurstrated

No what he meant was they’re not great in the large scale WvW fights. In WvW Thieves really shine as scouts, roamers (small group and solo) and havoc squad members.

Both are good. I just not really sure which role you want to be in.
Seems your are more interested in WvW, so try checkign the WvW forums.
Thief thought have a greater learning curve than warrior, because the role they act.
To a very roughly comparison, thief is more like hit big damage and run, while warrior is “go there, take hits/condition for the team while we kill”. very rough comparison.
In PVE warrior can be a offensive-buff machine with moderate damage, while thief is responsible for mitigate damage(blinds), stealth to make the party skips monsters unharmed with High damage.
Don’t worry about what is OP or UP. As others have said, what is most important is finding a profession that suits your playstyle best. Do you prefer a more evasive or stealth based defense or a more tanky damage absorbing style? Do you like hit and run combat or in the thick of it combat.
Both Warrior and Thief are good professions, and both can shine in different areas. In PvE both can offer good damage and both have ways to support the team in different ways. A warrior can provide sustained support through banners and shouts, while a thief can provide situational support through stealth and venoms. In WvW warriors are great front line troops in big fights and can roam well too, with great mobility when built for it, while a thief is one of the best roamers and great at flanking groups and picking off ranged enemies. In PvP warrios can be decent bunkers and also strong at support and control, while thief is excellent at decapping and moving about the map quickly for those +1 situations.
From my personal experience, I find Warrior slightly easier to level up and has better survival across most game types, but I personally prefer the thief (its my main) and when played well a thief can often be the most fun and rewarding, and in WvW is one of the best professions for disengaging from fights. I feel safer roaming on my thief than any other profession.
It all comes down to whether you find the profession fits you, and whether you can find a good build you can work with. As another has already said, I would highly recommend going to the heart of the mists with each prof you want to try, and play about with different builds vs the NPC’s there, before you decide and start leveling them. Both are good, but only you can determine which works best for you.
Those two classes you picked…
Do you want things easy mode with Warrior or do you want to work for it and possibly be hated for being too good as Thief? Cuz literally the difficulty curve in this game starts with Warrior and ends with Thief, which get the lowest HP possible with Vigor being it’s only good defensive boon. Everything else for survival relies on timing, where as Warrior can just idle on a tower and not even be 1v1’d AFK.
They are both useful in all content and have massive amounts of team support and solo power so it just depends on playstyle from there. Don’t be disconcerned with these MLG WvWvW peeps who say Thief is bad in group fights because they’re the only class that can have a blast finisher at their command in any moment and the best high dmg AOE spam in game, not to mention how useful tons and tons of poison is.
