First question: Can you salvage Intricate Gossamer Insignias from Dungeon armor sets acquired with dungeon currencies (Shards of Zhaitan , Knowledge Crystals etc.) using a Black Lion Salvage kit?

Can you get the associated insignia from any of the exotic armors? or would I be wasting my kits on a Berserkers exotic armor (Zhed’s armor for example)

You can only salvage Insignias/Inscriptions for NON-craftable stat sets. So you won’t be able to get a Berserker’s Insignia/Inscription, but can get a Dire.

I’m not sure, but I think all Dungeon stat sets are craftable, so no Insignias/Inscriptions would drop.

i could be wrong, but i dont think you can salvage dungeon armor.

I can however answer your second question. You cant salvage for insignias that can be crafted. You can only salvage for non craftable insignias, like soldiers, sentinals, rabid etc. So you will never get a berserker insignia from salvaging armor. It is still perfectly acceptable to use good salvage kits on exotic armor though because rares and exotics have a chance of salvaging globs of ectoplasm at level 68+ (level requirement on gear, not character level) and exotics have an added chance to drop globs of darkmatter. Sometimes, the rune is worth selling on the TP, so you also want to try to get it from the armor as well. So despite not getting an insignia from the armor, most people will still recommend that you use the better salvage kit on exotic items of level 68+ (I am one of those people)

You can only salvage non-craftable insignias/inscriptions.

Soldiers – AC, SE, HoTW
Cavaliers – ?
Shaman’s – CM
Rabid -CM, TA, HoTW, Arah
Dire – CoE
Magi – AC, TA, HoTW

None of the armor available from CoF has insignia/inscriptions that can be salvaged.

Edit: You can salvage and forge dungeon armor/weapons….I have done it myself.

With the following caveat:
Karma gear cannot be salvaged, but can be put in mystic forge.
WvW gear (bought with badges) cannot be salvaged and cannot be put in the mystic forge.
Level up rewards cannot be salvaged, but can be put into the mystic forge.

**(There really should be a tool tip on these items saying “cannot be salvaged” and/or “cannot be put in the mystic forge”)

For the most part. You can’t salvage gear bought with karma or badge. Plus anything you get as a lvl up reward can not be salvaged.

Oh yeah I forgot about leveling reward items. (edited post above to include them) Can’t be salvaged, but can be forged….but you get salvage kits as level up rewards so you can recycle your old gear. Oh yeah except the stuff that I’m given….or buy from heart vendors. That’s got to be helping the NPE somehow. >.>

Interestingly enough you get 3 exotic armor pieces as level up rewards….one shy of being able to throw them in the forge when you get to 80 and want to recycle the old pieces. :P

with the bolded changes above (adding crafting materials and changing item to inscription/insignia) it is correct. You will always recieve common crafting materials when you salvage (which is why salvaging an exotic item is almost like opening a chest since you can get so many things from it). I put the inscription/insignia in instead of the item because you can take the salvaged insc/insg (my abreviations) and craft your own armor/weapons.

I do believe that you have the gist of the idea. According to the wiki the following can only be obtained by salvaging exotic weapons/armor:

Cavalier
Dire
Magi
Rabid
Sentinel
Shaman
Soldier

Every other insc/insg can be crafted although you need recipe sheets for Celestial, Nomad, Settler, Sinister, and Zealot insc/insg

EDIT: i will add that i think you can salvage settlers items and get an insc/insg, but i could be mistaken on this fact

Its also salvageable from random exotic sentinel gear drops. However, that gear doesnt drop atm but you could still buy some (for high prices) on the tp and salvage sentinel inscriptions and insignias from them.

None of the exotic craftable insignias/inscriptions are learned through discovery though, thev sheets are bought from the master crafter for karma.

Wow… You see what you’ve done anet? NPE? I’ve been playing 2 years, and I still barely understand everything that was stated in this thread.
