This seems to be the most requested QoL feature by the community on /r/guildwars2. It has most likely been discussed before, but I thought to repost it here in the official forums for the devs to see how much the community wants this addition and how nice a change it would be for people.

With the release of HoT and the introduction of Elite Specs we’ll all soon have new ways to play our existing classes (or professions- whatever.) This is awesome as it opens up completely new builds, however a this opens up the new problem of having to potentially manage multiple sets of items for each character. For example lets say our group needs a Druid instead of a LB/GS ranger for a raid. This would require switching all of my armor, weapons, trinkets individually to play this new role. This is a chore and discourages playing multiple roles with a single character. This is problem exists even today in Pve/Wvw as ideally you’ll want to run different builds for fractals/roaming/zerging, however it is a laborious process to go through switching out all your gear and traits

It has always been in Anets philosophy not to needlessly inconvenience players and I feel that by including a Build tab in the hero menu they could make playing multiple builds far more enjoyable and convenient. (For those about to point out the build tab already exists rename that to Skills) Builds would allow you to save and name a certain a number of preset builds which you could easily switch between. When selected these Builds would switch your traits, equipment and slot skills to whatever you have selected when the snap shot or save was taken. This would allow players to quickly switch between various play styles for whatever situation they may encounter and get the most out of their characters and equipment.

For people worrying about quick build swapping in WvW/Raids weapons and traits can already be swapped in WvW quite quickly while out of combat so this really doesnt change anything. As some users suggested you could even limit the Quick Swapping Build feature to your keep or put a longer OOC timer on it. For raids the devs are said to have implemented some type of build locking there so again a non-issue.

It’s a common request here, too. That we might start needing more than just zerk builds in PvE makes it even more desirable.

So given how equipment works, how are you thinking this would function for armor/weapons?

I was thinking it would be like, you buy a build swap slot from the gem store and put your gear in there?

This wouldn’t be too different from how GW1 had the gear bag slot you could earn with Zaishen coins.

Hi,

this has been asked many times before, and got discouraging answers in return. But with the coming of HoT – can we hope again that we wont have to manually change gear/traits/utilities/etc?

I just want to keep this thing alive in hopes of finding a solution finally. If the devs wont do it, at least allow the use of third party softwares. (Actually such things do exist, but I didnt risk using them.)

Spec templates was a feature RIFT had that I really enjoyed. I played Cleric in Rift so I could hit a macro and instantly switch my spec and gear with a single button push. Loved it. I could go from tanking to healer to dps in a single macro.

I don’t think we’re getting templates soon but I agree, let’s keep hope alive.

I think this is one of these things they are aware of and want to add at some point but just got pushed down a list of things with a higher priority. I think we will get it at some point though, especially now that raiding is coming and it will be even more requested.

Gw1 had templates and I had several for each spec back then…

Gw2 has or will have PvP, PvE, WvW, Raids, JP’s, WB’s, and you can always Roam in WvW all of which could easily fill a different template.

Templates at launch would have been nice but since launch we’ve had added modes and legendaries with changeable stats so at this point a template system isn’t something that people want it’s rather something that we need.

Totally agree with this post.
I asked about it some time ago but I received no answer.
I really hope that the devs will answer this call ..at least with a " no we’re not planning to implement this thing"
