Hey folks,

I couldn’t find any threads of the same topic, so made a new one. If there already is one, let me know.

So I can be quite clumsy. And can be, I mean most of the time. I like to have most of items that I need at the bottom of my inventory, as the stuff you pick up will be automatically placed at the top.

Does anyone have the issue, that the deposit materials button is right above the compact inventory button? When meaning to press deposit materials, I have accidentally clicked the compact inventory button so many times T_T Then I have to go back and rearrange my whole inventory.

Could there be a possibility of ANET moving the buttons further apart, just for my clumsy kitten XD

Just make the bottom most bag in your bag slots an invisible bag and your problems are solved. Nothing placed in an invisible bag gets sorted.

Ooooh right. Heh, thanks for that! Some good advice.

Also the items in “dedicated” bags don’t compact. That is, bags such as the ones for crafting mats and or for equipment don’t compact. It’s just the generic types of bags that compact.

Oiled Packs — Looted junk is placed here first. Items in this bag are not affected by inventory sorting.
Craftsman’s Bags — Looted crafting materials are placed here first. Items in this bag are not affected by inventory sorting.
Equipment Boxes — Looted weapons and armor are placed here first. Items in this bag are not affected by inventory sorting.
Fractal Equipment Boxes further refine this by also filtering by rarity (3 versions: Exotic, Rare & Uncommon).
Invisible Bags/Safe Boxes — Items in the bag never appear in sell lists at vendors and the Trading Post, and are not affected by inventory sorting.

Many of my characters use those candycorn bags, as well as the cheev-reward bags (Bandit Purse / Uncanny Can), which are affected by Compaction.
I put stuff in there that can’t be merched, like spare salvage kits, node tools, BLK items, and some consumables. Annoying to have these infrequently-used-but-important-to-be-sorted items spread out amongst my possessions whenever I click Compact by accident!

If you don’t mind the arrangement, you can swap the last bag(with empty slot) to your first bag.

If you mind the arrangement, it’s a bit tricky..

Assuming you have 5x 20 slots normal bags and you accidently compact your bag, so now the empty slots are at the bottom. What you need to do is drag bag 5(last bag with empty slots) up one slot, and keep doing it one by one upward until it reaches the top. Then compact the bag. Do this a few times and you will get back your exact same arrangement as before.

Example,

Compact.. and do it again starting with bag 4 now.

Edit: Make sure you click compact a few times because sometimes stacks will get separated. Also, the number of times you need to do it depends on how many empty slots you currently have.

I honestly think the compact feature is 100% useless and should just be removed. If it actually sorted by type to the bottom than I might actually use it. As it functions now, I don’t know anyone that uses it intentionally.

Ooh! Thanks for the all the advice on the bag usage, I’ve started using the invisible bags and such now, and it really does help.

But I still believe the compact button should be placed elsewhere, so nobody hits it by accident xD For bag & item managing is part of the fun of the game for me!
