instead of adding bag slots have you considered getting bigger bags (which give more spaces) instead?
a 20 slot bag costs around 6g if you buy 3 candy corn cobs and exchange them for a pail (from this guy: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sonder_the_Seller).
| 61 Asura | 5 Charr | 2 Norn | 1 Human | 1 Sylvari |
It is very expensive.
The only way to make that much money is farming your kitten off. You can probably make around 10g an hour, so you need a whole working day to buy your bag.
But trust me. You don’t need that extra bag. It will be full with junk in no time. There’s never enough inventory space for the amount of crap this game throws at you.
If you just have one level 40, managing your inventory shouldnt be that hard. Salvage all the gear you will not use. Vendor all the junk at each opportunity. That’s it. Oh, and buy at least 15slot bags!
The theory is that people will do the following:
- deposit mats to the bank
- get bigger bags. 8-slots are practically free. 20-slots can be had for as little as 6g.
- manage inventory better, including salvaging-as-you-go and reducing hoarding
- add new bag slots
By the time you get to the last slot, you “should” be able to manage the slots you do have or be able to afford the upgrade price. Except when I was learning chef (in the days before there were any guides), I never came near needing more than 60 slots (which was 20+10+10+10+10, i.e. the default pack + four 10-slot bags), which was all I could afford at the time. (Gold:gems ratio was low, but it was much harder to acquire coin.)
tl;dr start by reducing the amount of stuff you carry and find some bigger bags.
As much I’ve been studying profits recently, you can get up to 50 gold just by loging in the game on a daily base (Getting daily rewards > trading laurels for t6 > Selling on tp).
So, if you play a little more ahead than just loging, doing some dungeon runs (~2-3g / 15min), some world bosses ~80s per boss, you can pretty easily get the 80g into around of 1 month playing very casual. Playing hardcore gives you the slot into 1 week.

If you play and only get 80g per week, youre the most casual of hardcore.

Sorry, misused the Hardcore word. I would have said “Active” or kinda like ~2 hours per day.
I gotten one bag slot for one of my characters, and I got to say it’s not worth it. Having the base number of slots filled with 20 slot bags is more than enough to keep me going.
If you’re doing pve, don’t forget that you can sell all your junk and unwanted items at every heart vendor after you’ve done the heart. If you do that consistently, you can keep your inventory relatively empty.
It is one of those not-so-covert ways Anet gets back door money. Free to play…almost.

Buying gem stuff with gold isn’t supposed to be cheap. The system is supposed to make most players consider that their time is better spent throwing down a little real cash every now and then.
I’ve played almost three years without buying a bag slot for any character. Just use 20 slot bags (the halloween pails are the cheapest option right now) and vendor/salvage/deposit mats as needed.

The game is NOT Free-to-Play. It is a Buy-to-Play model that requires a purchase to play. However if you want more convenience items -bag expansion, bank expansion, etc.- then it requires a bit more money. There is nothing covert or back door about it, nor should there be. It has been this day since the Beta of the game before it launched. A.Net is a business, so they do have to make some money somehow; not give everything away for free.
OP, if you have $5 -the cost of less than a Big Mac meal at McD’s- then spend it and buy a bag slot. Simple, cheap, and you’re helping a game you enjoy by paying the developers, who in turn develop more content for it.
But Big Macs are delicious.

You haven’t specified what size bags you’re using, OP. So please forgive me if this is stuff you already know.
15 slot bags are usually at a good cost per value price point. 18 slot bags are proportionally more expensive, but give 3 more slots per bag, which is significant. 20 slot bags are at a premium, because they’re “top tier”. And are generally not worth it to just buy outright. Halloween pails and the Uncanny Jar are good alternatives. The Uncanny Jar is a reward for completing a collection:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Uncanny_Canner You’ll have to go into a_ 55 to 65 level area to get the last item. But it will help you with map clearing, and you’ll have gained some levels along the way.(You can only get one Uncanny Jar per account.)
Also you can craft various types of bags. I’d avoid crafting bags with cloth/tailor because cloth is expensive. I would use leathers or metals. If you’re crafting anyway, this is a good solution. If not, then I wouldn’t level crafting just for bags, you won’t make a good profit.(Unless the market has changed a lot sine I last checked.)

20 slot bags are not worth the investment on a slot per gold value unless you get then by special means.
Candy Corn Cobs
Fractal Relics
and for fractal bags only ever get the cheapest ones.
