I was looking into crafting Ascended Armor and weapons (long range goal)

Current Exotic Armor (helm example):
Defense: 97
45 Power
32 Vitality
32 Ferocity

Ascended:
Defense: 102
47 Power
34 Vitality
34 Ferocity

Same question goes for Weapons. Is it really work the gold to go Ascended?
Thoughts?

Weapons ARE worth it though

Everything is worth as a drop.

But, if you have to make them, armor is worth only for fractals. Weapons are useful but, there is no need to rush. Just salvage, gather and make when you can.

Yes it’s worth going ascended. Although it is a slight increase of stats, it’s account bound and can be switch between toons. It’s required for higher level fractals, and it looks awesome.

The grind for it is a bit much, unless of course you are going to buy everything instead of grind for it like I did, but the feeling of satisfaction and completion makes it totally worth it.

Not especially. If you want to do high-level fractals, then yeah, you’ll need it, but for the most part, not required. The boost is pretty minimal at best, realistically.

Not really. It’s still a flat 5% over what you have without the axe. IE, your DPS would be just 1.05 x what you had previously.

As you want the skin, it is worth it, and as you like to have the most stats it is.
But it is not so much difference, so you need to know or you want to do the effort to make it.

What do you mean by “worth it?” The only PVE content with the numbers (that is, statistics) to challenge anyone beyond rares is Fractals. If you’re not going to grind Fractals —- and, personally, I don’t see much reason to do that at this point in the game’s life —- then sure. Otherwise, Exotic is just fine.

IMHO, get your exo’s cheap through dungeon runs/PVP/gold, play and enjoy the content you want, and maybe go for Ascended weapons if you want a “goal” but don’t care about Legendary weps.

Ascended was put in to give a goal to those who wanted to throw time into achieving a goal. Is that you? Ascended was put in to require those who wanted maximum possible stats to have to “work” for it. Is that you? Ascended is for those who want to eke every last erg of potential out of their character. Is that you?

Ascended stats provide anywhere from a 5% to 10% boost to effectiveness. However, that’s for full Ascended. The highest stat increases (over exotic) are loaded into trinkets. Armor, the last Ascended to be added, offers very little increase. Getting trinkets, which require either fractals, guild missions or laurel gathering via daily/monthly, seems more cost-effective than armor or weapons, as it is largely time rather than resource gated.

As far as crafted Ascendeds… Getting a weapon might be more worthwhile than armor because weapon strength increase is close to 5%. Damage is figured as (Weapon Strength x Power x skill coefficient), thus increases in either power or weapon strength have a multiplicative effect on damage. This shows up more on spike or crit builds.

While there is also a ~5% gain in Defense from Ascended (versus Exotic) armor, damage reduction adds Defense to Toughness, thus there is less synergy in the damage reduction calculation. Add in that defending oneself in GW2 is less gear dependent than in other games due to active defenses. Thus, armor seems to be the least worthwhile of the Ascended pieces.

Subjective, not a real fan of the looks in their entirety. Like maybe 1 or two pieces per weight. All I can say is “Reskinned”.

I personally think the time gating of components actually hurt my want to even make these things. What I did was take on a fire and forget philosophy by just making the time gated stuff daily or as much as I could and just forget about making an item. 2-3 weeks later, 1 month later things start to take form and you can then maybe put together some pieces.

the defense probably reduce damage taken by a bit. I don’t know how much, maybe 3-5%. I dont’ know if that is worth it, you need to ask yourself.

Its not the stats, its just the base damage of the weapon skills that do 5% .. and 5% is always 5% no matter what synergies.

If you do 1000 per hit you do 1050 .. now if thanks to power, precison and ferocity you do 2000 it will be 2010 .. its always 5%.

Now for armor .. the increase in total stats of a full armor set is something like 0,5-1% .. everybody must decide on her / his own if that is worth 500+ Gold.

I went the easy route. All ascended jewelry and back items. All exotic armor. I have a few ascended weapons on a few characters, but it’s not that big of a deal. The armor difference is negligible. It’s a great thing ArenaNet did. They gave high end stuff to the people that feel compelled ot have best in slot items for everything, but they didn’t make the armor powerful enough that all people would feel they had to do it.

For the Fractal people in here saying you HAVE to have ascended armor for it, you totally don’t. With my setup I do high level fractals, but choose to do fractals in the 20’s because the loot is the same but the Karma is WAY better.

I wouldn’t say its worth to rush through crafting it/leveling profs for it. Unless you are running high level fractals.

Ascended jewelry/accessories and in some cases back items are easy enough to get. Weapons would be the first priority over anything crafting wise.

But I’d just take it slow and do it as the items come. I don’t forsee anything taking Ascended’s place soon (if ever). So no need to rush or worry.

And overall I don’t think you’d see a noticeable difference between exotic/ascended. Maybe in some areas, but it feels like the difference is mostly on paper rather then raw stats.

As a long-term goal I think its a good thing. Between the range of like making a Legendary. Since Ascended armor been released, I only have almost 3 pieces. Just been making it as I get the stuff. Lack of silk always holds me back. And besides the last living world story gave a free Lesser Vision Crystal, and I was pretty stoked about that. Saved me a lot of time. So maybe in the future we might see as generous rewards to help the patient. :P

The heavy boots matches a lot of armor very well :0

My personal ‘especially’ being the female Norn t3 heavy. Just the right height to not clip with the stockings or the metal leg guards and matches the overall theme of the armor very well.

No, I spent months on my celestial gear and trinkets and now all of the stats are useless. Don’t spend more on gear than you have to because the stats could be come worthless at any patch.

The stats show there’s not much difference. If your the kind of player that needs to have the “top gear” Then do it. Exotic gear and weapons are just fine in this game. The game really isn’t all that gear depended like other mmo’s. They added Ascended for those players looking for something else to do.

In PvE… absolutely not worth it. I have never made (or received a drop of) an ascended weapon. I do just fine in every mode, even WvW. However, I think that for fractals you would need it all. I have made ascended armor for my thief, which is strictly for WvW, only because thieves are notorious for being very squishy.

Regardless of all the crying, PvE is still a faceroll with exotics. Seriously. Faceroll. If you can’t hack PvE with exotics, you need to learn to dodge and fight.

I made an ascended staff and sword purely because I like the skins. I have noticed no difference at all in stat differences. Will not make armour.

PVE is a faceroll with organized groups regardless of gear. Dont really even need to dodge if you have a guardian in some dungeons. I wonder how many people are good enough to solo content…

Because of the nerf to ascended berserker in the form of ferocity, it may not be as worth it to get ascended armor anymore as the crit damage is no longer +1% if I am not mistaken or perhaps in combination with the rest of the gear, ascended may tip towards the 1% extra damage.

It’s a sizable advantage, don’t let these guys tell you otherwise. Expect 8-10% increase in dps and passive defensive.

The problem is GW was all about skill and not grinding for advantages from gear. GW2 promised us that, but threw it down the toilet with the ascended update. If you want to be competitive in WvWvW or PvE you need acsneded.

Only for Fractals. I’m personally going after Ascended anyway though since I can’t think of any class I enjoy other than my bearbow norn with t3.

Just want to point out, that the stat increase to ascended is pretty useless for condi builds. Possibly worth it for hybrid builds, but for pure conditions…nope.

I’ve made full asc gear for 3 characters now and Im making for 2 more that are ½ way there. – Worth it?—— properly not based on stats increase.
Even with the 5 stat/5 agony resist i also place in all my items- weapons are 5% increase and armor- with added sockets.. 5-7% more…. ‘perhaps’ 10% if you are a heavy.
But this is a game where you make your own goals. And one of mine is to have 1 of each profession with asc full gear-
So in my case it is worth it as a goal-

And for looks……. considerably variation. My Charr ranger looked like CATS! (must be a worse swearword then kittens right?)
My female human ele looks great!- etc. and since I don’t want the same look on all,-
its fine… I’ll transmute the looks on the asc gear on the bad-looking ones,- to something else.
