Is CoF armor getting really cliche?
if you want to be unique, try mid/low level karma gear. dungeon armors are overused.
CoF armor has been cliche for a looooong time now. I think the running stereotype is a Charr sigil warrior using a greatsword in full zerker CoF armor.
Dragonbrand
I want to get the light armored Dredge set. I forgot which dungeon do you get it from though.

As long as your mixing it with other things its not so bad. I always laugh when I see with a full set on. ATM I wear 3 pieces from CoF 2 from Arah and one Cultural. So I’m 50/50.

Use what you think looks good. Ignore trends/trying too hard to be unique.
The medium helmet still looks great on my flamethrower wielding engineer , but yeah, it’s everywhere
Of course it is. I’m close to getting it finally.
Easy-to-acquire Berserker armor is great no matter how you cut it.
It is the big one cliche and most common armor in GW2… since the first couple of weeks where dungeons had no DR and people farmed and farmed for hours CoF 2. It is a big sign for farming dudes (in most cases). Lol I remember one of my friends stood up 15 hours in that place getting 3 full sets of armor in one day.
Ever since that day, it is the most farmed and common place.
I don’t find any of the armor “sets” in the game particularly prestigious. Kinda unfortunate.
Would be neat having some cool looking stuff to get that’s really expensive and/or takes a while to get. “Legendary armor” would be neat.
T3 cultural, well lets face it, if you want it you’ll have it before long. Most long time players can buy the whole set whenever they feel like it without blinking.
Doesn’t necessarily need to take the time it takes to make a legendary weapon to make just the boots or something, but stuff for other slots along the lines of the glowy fractal capacitor would be good.
I run CoF gloves on one character, Cof Boots + Gloves on another (one heavy, one light.) I tend to mix the rest of the armor, but you can’t beat the fact that CoF armor is the only armor in the game with an animated particle effect. That brings a certain cool factor with it that the other armors can’t compete with.
Not that I don’t like the parts of HotW armor, cultural armor or other things that can be blended into a character look…. but if TA armor gave you a sylvari like glow on the armor, or AC armor actually turned ghostly at night like the weapons do….. these would give incentive to wearing that armor more

Bolded for awesome points.
yes… and i hate seeing it on necros
(though i use the CoF gloves/shoulders on my ele -with SE boots, hotw chest and CoE helm/legs)
80 warr [Blaze Steelsoul], 80 ele [Blaze Nightstrike], 80 mesmer [Grim Shatterwhirl]
80 guard [Dusk Grimlight], 80 engi [Flintgear]
No please… if anything the MMOs as a general don’t need is more glowing armors like WOW. Everytime I see someone full full COF it makes me wanna throw a water bucket at them.
power rangers stay out of my game!
I think cliche is the wrong word.
While it is overused, it’s doesn’t lose its effectiveness.
Players are naturally going to focus on getting a good set of gear before focusing on style.
This will go away once they improve the CoF dungeons like they’re doing with AC.

All of the dye color options available means you can use a popular set of armor and still have a unique touch to it. Don’t cover yourself in black or red paint and you’ll stand out fine.
use transmute stones.

Heh bad luck I’d suggest mixing the really good pieces (shoulders, gloves boots) with other pieces.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

And healing shouts. It’s GW2’s Wammo basically lol.
Still those people have a point, CoF is the easiest to farm, always a lot of people LFG for it, and it has zerker stats.

You can do particle effects without being over stated. Moving parts would also be cool…. get some of the CoE gears to move, or a few asura floating bits out there (shoulder ‘spikes / cubes’ that float above the shoulder.)
Doesn’t have to be loud or flashy, but makes things less ‘flat’
Christ use what you want if you like it and don’t care about ohter peoples opinions.
My charr warrior runs in t3 cultural but my charr mesmer will run in cof armor.
Cof armor is no more cliche than half nude chicks with the face of 14yr old girls I see in the game felt and right.
If I see an armor set I like, I will wear it regardless of how many people wear it. I couldn’t really care how others feel about what I gear myself with. CoF has a cool design and I’d wear it when I earn it. Meh.
We are sworn together by our blood…
I hate the CoF gear. It just looks so goofy to me, running around with fire shooting out of their arms / legs / chest / whatever. Easily my least favorite armor in the game.
Too bad its everywhere and I have to see it constantly >.>
I use the full set on my Asura and I love how it looks, don’t really care what everyone else thinks.

I understand people like to look unique and stand out in a crowd but people here saying they hate CoF gear because ‘everyone’ wears it? Come on now that’s a bit harsh. I wear the full set and some statements here make it seem like I run into 50 people a day wearing the set which is very far from the truth. Just because people like an armour doesn’t mean you have to hate it/them, it’s ok to be mainstream.

No, we hate it cause its makes you look like you are on fire all the time… its not a smart way to make you look “devilish” and “evil” it makes you look silly.
aaaaaaaaand besides that, everyone and their dog has one… so it kind of lower the GW2 art score a few points.
Now that I know that everyone hates it so much I will wear it even more.

It really isn’t that over-the-top, if this is an issue then people would be complaining about Sunrise and Twilight, giant, ridiculous-sized swords placing odd ink-like footprints to your character which aren’t exactly small. Not that I’m complaining about those, they look pretty cool, but there are bigger more ‘sillier’ things in the game.
Uhhh it was cliche since day one.
Armor with flames? Check. Abyss? Check. Looking like everyone else? Priceless.
Wanted to tag back in with something about being ‘unique’ and wanting to stand out.
Yesterday, i was doing Plinx in Orr, and plucking away at the Champion at the end of the chain with my Thief, rocking a Shortbow and T2 human armor dyed with Midnight Ice.
I look to my left, and there’s a ranger, sporting the same color hair, same hair style, T2 armor dyed with Icing, plucking away at the boss with a short bow.
I instantly whispered the other player: “Dig your armor, it’s like running into the ‘good twin!’”
We chatted for a few minutes back and forth, had a good laugh, stayed side by side most of the boss fight, and then moved on.
It was a cool moment. Someone out there had very similar taste to me, and we could laugh and joke and appreciate it.
If CoF armor feels ‘cliche’, take a moment to appreciate people who wear it well, and let the rest fade into the back ground. Some people mix / match the set well, and some people custom dye it well, and some people…. some people dye it Lime and Salmon, and jump around like fools for our amusement.
Getting? It’s been a cliche since release.

I really enjoyed your comment because it’s very true. I did put a lot of work into my armor design, and I think that itself makes it different from most. Maybe I’m wrong, take a look.

hah ^ was on my alt then switched back to take a pic didn’t know it would still be there.

Let me set you straight there with you statement. Yes, people farmed it. But it is way easier to get today than back then. I farmed my greatsword like that and it took me, I dunno alot of runs. If you want a greatsword today you can get it in less that one day if you commit for it. Back then you had to do like 50+ runs to get enough for 1 piece.(Don’t slaughter me if I’m wrong on that number, but I remember doing it non stop for several days, maybe even a week to get it.)
I never liked CoF armor from the start. The helmets are especially ugly and it looks like you have a burnt tire melted to your torso. ;/ IMO you need to be a Charr for it to look decent anyways.
Cof Armour sort of reminds me of the Winged set on female casters :P-
I loved that set since beta’s so as soon as I could, I crafted it for myself- meh I ended up wearing it for half a day and changed it to a mix of karma amour I wore until lvl 70.
It just didn’t fit my character.
I think “ubiquitous” describes it better than “cliche”

Yea it’s definitely “faster” now, especially if you have alts to do it with. I can bang out p1+p2 in ~25mins; do that across 4 characters and you’ve got ~500 tokens. Compared to launch, which was still pretty fast, this is insanely fast.

o.0…. 0.0… =_=… D=
i honestly dont think id be as sick of it if the flames were dyable; because it would help create some player diversity in those using it
80 warr [Blaze Steelsoul], 80 ele [Blaze Nightstrike], 80 mesmer [Grim Shatterwhirl]
80 guard [Dusk Grimlight], 80 engi [Flintgear]
I am an armor mixer.
My ele and engineer have CoF shoulders and guantlets; my necro has CoF guantlets and boots.
In general, I hate the look of full CoF sets.
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
I’ll say it again, I don’t honestly get you people…
Who cares how many people use it? How does it change the way it looks and whether you like that look or not? Honestly, as far as I’m concerned that is the single ugliest armour set in the entire game. Surpassing even the “Michellin Man” medium armour set. It would be equally fugly whether every single player used it, or only a single person. Conversely I love the light armour honor of the waves chest piece. I think it looks fantastic, and I can’t see how it would matter how many other people in the world think so.
It’s the kittening Barbie generation backwards mentality of things for bragging rights: “use things that make you look ‘unique’, not things you like, because that’s the only claim to value you’ll ever have!”.
Like Vorch, I am an Armor mixer as well.
On my main (Sylvari Mesmer), I only have one piece of CoF Armor skin actually. And its the Gloves, where the Forearm part is actually hidden away because of the Chest Armor (leave behind only the hands part of the skin).
I know that I’ve never really cared for the CoF armor look. While the flames are one of the few armor effects, it just never seemed to truly fit. That said, it is tempting to make a nice “Flame and Frost” look though, when dyed with Winter Ice for the Light Armor.
1) WvWvW look (Rabid). Dark, Serious, and generally means buisness uniform. (Temple – Head, Gloves, Leggings; Seer – Chest; Conjurer – Boots; Acolyte – Shoulder)
2) PvE look (Rampager). Sylvari look. One really can’t help but look human without some Racial T2 or T3 clothing.
3) Zerker look (Berserker). Face Palming hilarious look of Sailor Mercury. Can’t be taken serious, so its set as my Berserker set so I end up swapping out of it when I can.
- (Death, Terry Pratchett, Hogfather)
It’s not cliche, its just the easiest dungeon to get tokens. Quick runs, even with a pug, well usually. And with the apparent decrease in drop rate of Fine Transmutation stones, people aren’t going to waste them transmuting a set of gear for an alt.
My thief. Cliche? You bet!
Though really, there’s hardly any reasonably obtainable armor that looks good. Which is why many gravitate to CoF armor.
I cringe when I see Charr Warriors with full CoF gear including the greatsword. It’s like they’re TRYING to tell me that they’re horribad.
Sorry to say, but it’s unfortunately usually the case.

CoF gear was pretty common a few months back. I have the gear but it’s all transmuted to other skins. Wanted something somewhat unique instead of being a generic clone.
