Hi everybody, i just wanna ask you if GW1 is still alive ?
I would play to this game but i don’t want to download it if nobody is still playing on it.

It is a little. You can find people in major cities like presearing ascalon/ascalon, lions arch, kaineng city, kamadan embark beach, great temple of Balthazar and so on. Outposts and mission places are pretty dead though.

GW1 is instanced. I love that fact tbh but its not for everyone. Expect to play with a team of AI. The premade ones called henchmen are meh but will work fine in normal mode. If you are good you can take them to hardmode but most will be using heros which are ai that you set skills and gear and can control a little. Sadly you have more control over heros in gw1 then rangers have over their pets in gw2, odd.

expect to play with ai but if you try to make a friend or even just pug, there are indeed people.

if you count afkers and people who are only selling or buying as alive :P. The game is dead unless you are part of the few close knit community

There was a lot of people around. Not just Spamadan. Keep in mind that most people actively playing is in an instance most of the time, so even if there was nobody in outpost, that doesn’t mean there’s nobody playing.

Yep, I’m a member of this group. It has over 1,000 members, so it’s quite easy to find someone to play with.

You know what would bring new life back to GW1 if it could be ported to the mobile platform. I would love to play this game on my phone or tablet. Most mobile devices have more power than the first PC I ever played GW1 on so it should be possible.

Alive? Yes. However, it’s currently much closer to single-player with shared towns.

I know plenty of people who still play. Typically, they use heroes so it’s solo play. When they do play with others, it’s almost always with people they currently also group with for other games (e.g. GW2).

Besides being often on your own, you should also know that most story/combat instances are 8-players max (notable exceptions for 4, 6, and 12 players) and that the dev team is strictly in maintenance mode (i.e. there’s very little support, outside the player-run wiki). Most importantly to me: there’s no jumping in GW — [spacebar] does nothing!

Still, if you are willing to put up with it: a lot of the content is fun, the game is gorgeous (for the graphics of its age and a bit beyond), and it includes a lot of the ANet attention-to-detail players love for lore and “local color”, so it feels immersive in the same way as GW2 (some would say better than).

Population Metrics

• The default trading hub is down to two instances (from 7+ before GW2 was announced).
• Other standard hubs are barely populated (one instance each, with the only selling advert coming from a bot).
• The only time I’ve found high concentrations of people is Shing Jea, during a festival that offers the games of chance — people logon and go afk to work on lucky/unlucky titles.

Gw1 was a fantastic game, but ArenaNet killed it through neglect and stupid patches …which they have seemed determined to do to Gw2 since August 28, 2012 as well.

It is still ok, and worth a play through especially if you want Hall of Monuments points and to see the lore background of this game. I would advise against PvPing there now though.

Yep, I got those axes as well. To be honest, I was completely surprised they added new content, albeit small, to a game that is on maintenance only status.
