Is GW2 free now?

That’s the link for the 3 different account types, Free to play, Core (base game paid), and HoT expansion. So he can see if some of the restrictions are going to bother him or not.
There is free to play version but have many restriction.
It’s free with restrictions
Yes, except for the expansion, it’s free. This includes everything in the base game. There are certain limitations. But most of these are in place to prevent gold seller spam, botting, and/or trolling.
That said, Guild Wars 2 is not in the best of places now. And while I’m sure that statement is going to draw all kinds of personal attacks, it is what it is.
Try it for free, but don’t expect the population it once had until July: that’s when Living World returns and will give players new carrots to chase.
In my humble opinion.
We can skip the opinion and flame part of this post and just end it with “This is what you should expect to see.”
- every map has a decent number of players. (I always run into other players regardless of map or where i am on a map)
– during prime time spots like world bosses are loaded beyond anything ive seen in any other mmorpg (have played most of the popular ones)
– wvw is pretty open and devoid of player density so join a tier 1 wvw server if you want to see large scale action. (For Na its jade quarry, blackgate, and yaks bend)
– pvp only area is loaded with players to join and play against.

New players will have a great time with the game, but old players are jaded and tend to take content out like pieces of gum. The game has so much more since its original release including skill overhauls, talent overhauls, new areas etc. Even without the expansion you get your moneys worth considering it costs $0. Level 1-80 no time limit trial for him, I’d say that is a good investment considering the expansion only adds like 10% more content. Free accounts have some annoying restrictions to chat, but same room co-op you won’t notice the difference. I think the only downside is not being a payed account is that you can’t give him items or gold(even through a guild). He can however use the trading post to make money from basic goods to progress crafting.
Ok wait Troll is a ugly creature it has nothing to do with what you guys are saying. The only meaning of Trolls are those creatures even in GW2. I seen pics of them and they are just weird looking creatures. lol
But I am confused since some of you guys say it has the base game so does it mean its the full game of the original GW2 without the expansion pack?

I just started playing a little over a moth ago and did the free account for the first three weeks and then bought HoT because I love this game You get enough with the free to play account to keep you busy for hours, tons of stuff to do, and then youll get a better idea if you wanna spend the money for HoT or not. Its definetly worth downloading and trying out

Have no idea if you’re being serious here, so I’m just going to skip it…
But I am confused since some of you guys say it has the base game so does it mean its the full game of the original GW2 without the expansion pack?
Ok I had a long drawn out answer, but I’m going to skip it too. In short, yes, free accounts have essentially complete run of the core (orginal) GW2 game.
However, they have some limitations. For example, they only get 2 character slots instead of 5. They can’t use map chat, just say chat. They can only initiate a new whisper conversation with someone that is not on their friends list once every 30 seconds. There is a limitation to what you can buy and sell on the TP. Etc
On the flip side, you can fully level a character from 1 to 80. You have access to WvW (after lvl 60, I think it is). You can do sPvP if you so desire. You can go through the entire Personal Story. Etc Etc.
Personally, if you get a character to 80 and feel like you want to keep playing, you should probably just invest the 50$ at that point to unlock everything and give you access to the expansion. But prior to that, its a very extensive “free trial.”
IMHO, The current state of the game is only really ‘bad’ if you only consider HoT based content. And by bad I mean expectations that were set by Anet that were just not delivered. But Hot is what HoT is. It does not make the core game any less fun then it was before HoT was delivered.
game 1-79 is still the same and still very fun. Lots of things to do, lots of ways to play. And you can do it such a way that you never repeat the same thing more then 3-4 times, thats how big the core game truly is.
Game as a fresh 80 can be a lot of fun too. You can buy yourself a nice rare set on the TP and then run Dungeons for badges/drops to upgrade your gear, and then use that as a ’wall’’ to progress into FOTM. All the while hitting Boss events like Teq, Shatterer, Jormag, …ect for additional chances at gear upgrades to add to your ‘progression’
or you can just save gold and buy it all on the TP
Game as a geared/older 80 is where it becomes foggy IMHO. Once you blow through HoTs content (Personal story, the 2 active Meta maps a handful of times, and run through all the Hero Points to unlock your Specs) All thats left in HoT is DS/AB metas and RAIDs, aside from running HP runs for newer players if your into that kinda thing.
But here is the other half of that, if you buy the game…you get HoT anyway, even if you are only after the core game. So it doesn’t really matter.
The core game still has a lot to deliver compared to HoT and that ALONE makes it worth it to the new player.

Oh ok but actually I am serious that Trolls are creatures that aren’t real. I talked to my bf and he said that’s what trolls are. I even seen them on WoW and they are just like weird animals. You guys might of made that word up and use it differently since the only meaning I know of Troll is the not real animal. I even talked to my moms bf and he said the same thing. They didn’t know where you get the troll on how you were saying it from since as far he knows theirs only the Troll for the creature. Haven’t you seen Trolls before even on GW2?
But anyways I guess you can go to level 80 which is nice unlike WoW only at 20. But I guess in the long run it might be worth getting the full GW2. How much are they now? Since while back I think they were around $40 I don’t remember.
